News Comments > Notch Knocks Win8: Minecraft Certification in Doubt
89. Re: Notch Knocks Win8: Minecraft Certification in Doubt Sep 27, 2012, 23:23 Silicon Avatar

I'm running Win8 right now and I'm running all my Steam games like normal. Same FPS. Same everything. No special permissions required.

Nobody is going to use Metro UI exclusively on the PC. Most everybody will use the desktop and treat Metro like a full screen start button.

The only real complaint I could maybe see is that by default the Metro UI has a bunch of crap apps on it from MS that point to MS stores. Most gamers will dump those in the trash and set up their own to replace them.

Neat I guess. It seems like this stuff was needed a really long time ago though. Is the game still played that much? The mutations (read: they barely changed anything) got pretty stale for me after a while.

This was a game that cried out for more special infected, weapons, and all kinds of decent DLC.

Apart from the 'keeping the brand' part, what's the big deal? Kickstarting money won't publish, market, distribute, and do all of the behind the scenes wheeling and dealing to get a boxed game on the shelf of Walmarts and GameStops of the world. There's still unarguably a market for boxed games. Asking for a portion of the profits from those sales isn't unreasonable.

Demanding onwership of the IP to publish a game you haven't paid to develop is pretty greedy.

You miss the point of Kickstarter.

Obligatory:FU EA You did this!

Shades of Origin so many years ago ... just a bit 'cleaner' this time.

Yup.

On the plus side some hard core RPGs are getting made via Kickstarter, so it's not like the genre is dying.

Does Nintendo really want to court the casuals again? Isn't that market saturated? I can't turn around without kicking a casual game anymore.

Human rights violations include stuff like torture and slavery. The comparison here is actually pretty insulting.

Bayonetta 2 on a Nintendo console? Huh. That is not something I was expecting.

It's a dumb barrier. Instead of Valve hiring a handful of people dedicated to keeping Greenlight clear, the put the expense on the indie developers.

Valve makes money of those sales too. Let them pay the price. They're the ones wanting more product to sell.

Wow what a shitty coroner.

How about "14 year old tragically hangs himself after suffering from clinical depression."?

Few tiny indies are going to fork out a hundred bucks just to enter a popularity lottery in hopes that maybe their game will be sold on Steam.

If you are an obscure indie author you might as well throw your hundred in the trash can for all the chance you will have.

Yup. My blind friend plays games for the story. She can't necessarily get past a lot of twitch reflex combat or stuff like quick time events. That happens when you have a tenth of an eyeball left for vision. Why game developers still can't understand that baffles me.

It's too bad we don't have a legislative body that could take care of privacy issues like this.

It just sounds like EA is doing a sloppy cheap port to cash in on Wii U's newness.

We won't know what the Wii U can really do until a year and a half or so after it has launched.

Samsung says it's the consumer's champion and Apple is riding on smug righteousness.

In the end it's still two mega-corporations fapping over what peons will get to buy when the lawyers are through.

No consumer is going to win here.
