It's true, guys. Hardware specs ARE meaningless.

My IBM XT clone is playing Rogue just fine.

I sort of wanted Star Drive but the Metacritic reviews on the user side are either glowing or totally ripping it with little in between. Has anyone here got it and if so is it a good buy or a pass?

I didn't think it came off as whiny. I thought it came off as anger. Obviously Hines knows why the game isn't up to standard and he's pissed about it but for whatever reason can't or won't say exactly why right now.

It seemed kind of fishy to me, which is why I didn't get excited about it. They're undoubtedly going to make a sequel so I really don't have to worry. I have a new Wasteland game coming up to keep me satisfied for a while. It'd be nice if the two games were spaced apart a little.

I'd get all the unofficial NV patch mods for sure.

I also like Nevada Skies.

I also run J.E. Sawyer's mod. I am surprised nobody mentioned it yet. I kind of consider it part of the game.
http://twofoldsilence.diogenes-lamp.info/2012/09/jsawyeresp-v5.html

I have my NV running with a "full screen window" utility that gets rid of micro-stutter and the 4gb extender (to enable more RAM for RAM guzzling texture mods) plus NV FOSE (the script extender).

It took some tweaking to get everything right but now it's great and I'm playing through for the second time. I LOVE the "Old World Blues" DLC.

New Vegas Bounties is pretty fun too.

Note: The mods that turn the city of New Vegas into one huge area almost always eventually caused problems for me and I think I tried them all. Not worth it.

Monster mod is gone from the Nexus but you can probably still find it on sites that are less picky.

If you want to fight a lot look into A World of Pain.

I only ever put in $15 or $20 for Kickstarters and for that amount I have to get a finished product out of it. Ninety bucks to play a crappy alpha? No thanks.

You'd think that MS would backpedal after Sony (the press, and almost every gamer on the internet) repeatedly slammed them but I guess they're just not that bright.

EA's insistence on using Origin for everything just makes me skip their games. If they get around to figuring out Steam then I'll consider it.

I miss Arcomage too.

I hope they keep the humor and weird stuff and tons of secret areas.

I remember spending waaaaaay too many turns beating Q in some secret area I found.

I didn't feel like I got the whole story.

His personal life aside, it seems like he had high unrealistic expectations going in and not enough experience with temp jobs to know how to handle it properly.

I wish the charms bar was activated by a button on the start menu (or next to the start menu) instead of being activated by a corner mouse placement.

Other than that I've started finally using the "real" Win 8 interface and am actually starting to like it. With the start screen I can pin what I want to use to that and then for the obscure stuff I can just use the search tool. Now that I have all my favorites pinned it's more efficient (for me) than the regular start menu ever was.

I just went to a conference where MS showed off a lot of stuff, including Win 8 on a touchscreen.

For presentation lecterns, Windows 8 with touch is awesome. For the desktop the interface is seriously meh. If they had just done a dual mode they would have been so much better off.

Beyond that MS has a ton of really useful tools for enterprise needs. That helps them make money hand over fist. They could probably shut down their whole OS division and still be a corporate behemoth.

That comic had it spot-on.

I wish the board games that included novel-length manuals would include a few hours worth of tutorials on Youtube. I just don't have the patience to wade through all that, but I could pick it up pretty easily with 20 minutes of video.

His "exploit" requires you to have access to the console.

Wow. What a non-story. There are probably a million ways to make the game crash or otherwise screw up when you have access to the console.

Trucks, etc. all come in automatic too. It's an okay skill to have, but you can go an entire lifetime and never need or use it.

If that kids parents think a manual is going to keep him from texting and driving, well... That's cute.

PC Manufacturers without tablets or mobile devices angry they didn't release a tablet or mobile device - blame it on Windows 8.

That's my version of the headline.

Seriously, if your big sales push relies on somebody else to hype up the entire industry you'll just have to take the lumps that are handed to you.
