How could this run on PS2 and not the Cube? The GC blows away PS2, considering it's capabilites and some very sexy graphics in the form of RE4 and the upcoming Zelda : Twilight Princess. Just figured it weird. We're still talking about current generation of consoles right?

It feels less like a world and more like someone took a chunk of clay and carved these rooms out of it. I don't know exactly how to describe it. Something just a bit funky Yeah you're def right about that. I'd say the closest thing to it, feeling just a bit off and all, would be the first AvP engine. I get a very similar "chunky" feeling.

Just DL'd and played the demo. Some highlights, VERY satisfying gun feedback, physics system (which is actually ulilized unlike Doom 3), damn good AI, and the graphics which need some definite fine tuning and optimization. On the downside, the whole "Samara"-esque (The Ring) scare tactics...resembles that of the latest string of crap horror movies that rely on cheap scares to carry the movie and not an actual sense of dread or impending danger.
Yes, it made me jump the first time...but going through the same sequences again was very annoying IMO and just filler. Overall, I think I'm getting this when it's released.
One very memorable "wow" moment was getting a nade tossed near me, when it exploded all the boxes on the shelf went everywhere and the hang-down light went flying wildly, casting light/shadow in all different directions, along with the amazing particle effects. Also, I had a very similar feeling of urgency when fighting the AI in certain situations, much like the first Half Life.

I can see a lot of people with laptops wanting a nice game to run on their 3D-challenged machines It's still definately an excellent online RPG for people w/low end machines, work being one of them.

The gameplay is smooth and good enough that 1.02 made the still existing bugs liveable. Granted, when you have a killer rig to play this the way it was meant to be played, smoothly.

a graduate of the EB school of forum posters folks.... Indeed! Visit the Gamespot forums just once and you'll come back here w/such a greater appreciation for Blues News and sites like it, despite our differences/disagreements. At least we can attempt to back our opinions up...
You'll normally here responses like " WELL THAT'S UR OPINION!" to intelligent posters on the GS forums, in the face of fact OR logic. Yes, everyone has an opinion but saying "T:V is dumbed down compared to the previous releases" is a fact! You could tell them the Earth was a sphere and they'd come back at you w/that shite...

My vote for best online FPS ever would be Tribes II, but that's just me.
I agree with you all that EA needs to show some more respect for the people who made them what they are, through better support, less deceptive advertisement and maybe, just maybe, an actual dedication to making good games and not good marketing ploys. About seeing the commercials with CG videos instead of actual gameplay, just watch MTV (if you can stand it!)for awhile, almost every single game advertised uses the same pseudo-fraud technique, and not suprisingly people watching it are thinking "Holy shit, look at those graphics DUDE!". Christ I remember when seeing the EA logo before playing your game might've ignited even the tiniest bit of pride. But shit, those days are gone..(mostly back in the console days, not counting sports games..). Every franchise they acquire/create seems to be bastardized in some form or another. I'm still playing the BF2 demo and after hearing this, I doubt I'll be buying the retail, but who knows?
Regardless of the action we, as slightly less casual gamers take, there will always be legions of people eating this shit up regardless of quality/completeness/disregard for their games and customers. It's a shite state of affairs, indeed.
Bring on B&W 2!
Edit: I know this is off-topic but, does anyone know of any tactical-FPS mods for Doom 3 that are out/being developed? I'd really like to sink my teeth into some Urban Terror-ish gameplay w/extra sexiness via the Doom 3 engine. Errmmm, Action Doom 3

Why would I want to afflict my computer via fucking lousy console games? Good point, but I can see something like this also bringing some much needed exposure to PC gaming a la the console audience which could definately help in my mind. Maybe more people will start to "see the light".

Downloading the patch from 3D Gamers, considering the P2P client or whatever isn't even working atm. I'm getting more and more fed up w/Blizzard but despite all the gameplay, environmental, and lag bugs I still love this game and hope it will "one day" reach a level of polish a Blizzard game deserves because right now, the experience is hampered by many obnoxious bugs! Also, I don't get any slowdown even in 150 person+ battles. Corpses aren't really causing any lag either. Maybe it's just my rig but all is well as far as FPS is concerned. Cheers!

But what about the lag, and more importantly the extremely bad class balance in PvP AND PvE Care to be more specific about all those "imbalances"? And the Honor System is coming...

I have Ratchet and Clank : Up Your Arsenal along with the PSonline and all I can say is "WOW!". I'm totally impressed by the amount of content (modes/maps/weapons/vehicles) and gameplay jam packed into the online component of this game, considering it's a PS2 game. The action can be best compared to Halo on crack.

The thing that worries me most about the lackluster response to T:V is that there will not be another Tribes game... If that means we don't have to see more of the Vengeance style of play then this is a VERY good thing.
Edit: This thread just put me in the mood to play some T2 I'll see you on MoFo's ^_^ This comment was edited on Jan 4, 18:20. |
