The video game industry has the International Game Developers Association which fights back these kinds of cases.

It's also well known to those in the software industry that putting more people on a product decreases productivity and efficiency.

Yeah, we still have our UberTools. Most recent public version can be used with ST: Elite Force 2. We're wrapping up on a game now and may be starting two more soon, so we're still alive and kicking.

About the mod release, I'll check it out when I get home. I am intrigued at what the quality is since the game has been out for about 4 months. Everyone in the D3 community is expecting it will take about 6 months before the awesome mods start rolling in.

and YES, i'm quite peeved at the person that gave away the ending of the mod. Nice job, you are banned from the intarweb!

6. The Trip Hawkins E-mail Feb 1, 2005, 14:42 BrushBaron

I'll always remember the email Trip sent to some magazine GamePro (I think) about a game his company released. Apparently the review said it was a bad game and Trip went mad. Ranting and raging for a couple pages in an email about how the magazine was all wrong and they needed to reavaluate where their loyalties were.

Pretty amazing read,

The bold text is all from Trip.

Why couldn't they get someone from the RedSox instead of Derek? Those RedSox are a great group.

That's exactly what I found during development of this mod. Writing the captions took longer than coding the captioning system.

QUOTE:
"Yes. I am partially deaf and have bad hearing even with a hearing aid. HL2 amazed me with the captions option. I only enabled the dialog part. I think the one in DOOM 3 has too much CC since I don't need to know every single sound effects. I just need dialogs."

You missed the Game Options menu then, we added the ability to caption SFX and/or dialog via "YES/NO" options.

SFX [YES/NO]
DIALOGUE [YES/NO]

Choosing yes to both captions everything

Choosing NO to SFX but YES to dialog gets what you're looking for.

Hope that helps. Is there some way we can make that more apparent so others don't miss it?

The advertisements pissed me off so much I didn't play one second of the game and uninstalled it.

wait wait wait, this insta-spectator mode sounds really dangerous... so I'm playing and someone is kicking my ass, I'm about to die and then I decide to go into spectator mode to "escape" death. Then when things calm down I can spawn back into play?

Yeah, put an extra coat of repellant on that suit too. Unreal 2 was terrible in every way possible. The dialog was robot speak and not well acted. The scripted events were so cliched. Lots of models had badly stretched textures. The characters themselves were cliched, like the half-human half-cyborg mechanic on your ship. *rolls eyes* Non of the dialog choices really change the outcome of the game. Epic hyped this game as a huge leap in bridging the gap between story telling and gameplay. Didn't even come close to satisfying the expectations they themselves laid out on the table.

id Software on the other hand said, "we are making a horror sci-game, that is a retelling of the original DOOM game." and they delivered flawlessly.

In reply to Cy, id Software doesn't shut down mod groups unless they try to make money off their work. They've been very supportive of any mod that relates to an older game. When Quake came out, I worked on the DOOM: Your Path of Destruction total conversion for it. It was a new story set in the DOOM universe using the Quake engine. We asked id if we could do this since at the time, it was like a "Doom 3" and they said, just don't sell it, it's all good.

I'm a believer that education should be free. Having said that, if you want to learn game related skills the GuildHall is the place to be. They have professors and guest lecturers from id Software, Ritual Entertainment, Ensemble Studios, Gearbox Software, Midway and more. The school is loaded with more game dev experience and talent than anyone else. The education that students get is unrivaled. Already many interns have been placed at Gearbox, Ritual and id Software. You intern at any one of these companies and you can work any where in the industry when you graduate.

You are gonna see mods for DOOM3 faster than any other game in the history of... gaming.

The alpha that was leaked by ATI has been ripped open and its guts exposed to many die hard fans over at www.doom3world.org.

The editor is built into DOOM3 executable, so when you load doom3, bring up the console and type, "editor" to load it.

Also, a lot of the game is text data driven so mod authors don't have to use C++ code to make a mod, they can instead edit a few lines in an ascii text file and boom, the changes are made.
