Couldn't every platformer ever made be classified as a 'die and retry'?

Spells are a bit weak at the start.
You can't really go wrong with the Knight as a starting character.
And you can find a longbow almost immediately after the main starting 'hub' area.

But the game definitely seems more melee biased than its predecessors.
At least at the start.

For the camera issues, have a look at your settings and try out different lock on settings. You might find something other than the default works for you. (Personally I turned off all the auto lock ons and just left it for me to do manually)

Would be interested in a Shadow of the Colossus DLC or mod!

But.. but... it's different.
It doesn't have a character named Morrigan... it has an area named Moragon.

But Avalanche doesn't program games for "most" PCs. They mostly program games for the top-end PCs (that little 2D top-down car-shooter game not considered.) Just Cause and Just Cause 2 needed some pretty beefy rigs to run well. Just Cause 3, rumored to be in development, will undoubtedly need a pretty beefy rig to run well.

He's not in charge of Popcap. He's in charge of a studio that makes high-end games which require plenty of power to do them justice. So why make such a stupid statement?

Creston

Fair enough comment.
He probably could have qualified the statement better.
For example, if he had said something like "the PS4 will out-power most PCs at a comparable price point for years to come", that likely wouldn't have got as strong a reaction. (I'm assuming of course the PS4 comes out somewhere in the $400-$500 range initially and will go down a bit over time)

I didn't have a problem with the comment.
He did say "most" PCs, not "all" PCs. I don't think an avid PC gamers gaming rig would fall under the description of 'most' PCs.

How could this not have done well... didn't we read on Blues last week how gamers loved and embraced the micro transaction model?

It's a good game, and hopefully will get there... but I think releasing paid DLC is premature at this stage.
I know personally I have 2 different save games I have shelved waiting for the patch because of game stopping bugs.

And doesn't anyone else get bugged about paid DLC being released a month after the game?
I like DLC... but make it new additional content... not stuff that was obviously stripped out of the initial game.

I have decided that "post-launch monetization opportunity" is now my favourite marketing-weasel-ish expression.

what is a "seriously unique skill" ?

I haven't played the game, so would this mean that prior skills were the same across all classes? (which kind of defeats the whole idea of classes, does it not?)

Or would this mean that previous unique skills were less serious... perhaps a "mildly amusing unique skill"?

Not trying to hate on the game... just trying to understand what struck me as a bizarre point in the content.

You're right, it's not Tribes... thus the reason I said here's hoping it is the spiritual successor.

As for whether it is related to Tribes, I disagree. Look at the developers, look at their backgrounds, heck, just look at the screenshots. I believe it is related.
Possibly 2nd cousin twice removed related, but related nonetheless.

With respect to the 'why would they want to', that is a tougher question.
Perhaps because there has been nothing since that has facilitated comparable gameplay?
Perhaps because these are a lot of the guys that made Tribes, and this would be a way to get their game back under their own control?

And I have no doubt that your previous comment still stands.
That doesn't make it less wrong.
My assertion was simply that "if" this game is able to capture what it seems to be aspiring to capture, then it has a good chance of not just being "yet.another.shooter".
It has a chance to be something different.

And surely you can appreciate the hope, even if it is a blind hope at this stage, for something different.

dsmart - Tribes wasn't just any other shooter.

For the people that did play Tribes (the original, not the disappointing sequels), there really has been nothing like it since. The game created a very compelling dynamic that is difficult to explain if one did not experience it.

Here's to hoping this is the true spiritual successor to T1.

You would think they would turn on AA to showcase the game.
Those shots look somewhat craptastic.

Of course, my comment was done prior to the above post being removed (which had a link to screenshots)... so now it just doesn't make much sense.

Move along, move along...

I'm looking forward to trying this demo, and I hope the gameplay proves entertaining.
It's nice to see a game that offers something a little different from most of the stuff out there.

Hmmm.
All this commotion about video games, yet I see on the news that Athens is expanding its number of licensed brothels.

Kinda makes you wonder about the nations focus a bit... doesn't it?
