News Comments > Champions Online Beta Sign-ups
1. I just read... Oct 13, 2008, 23:12 ColoradoHoudini
this part from their main site:

Game features.. and let me admit this first.. I have a personal vendetta against Champions Online and the whole CoH/CoV franchise, because I thought the CoH/CoV franchise had a ton of promise, but ultimately let me down because the game lacked depth.

After reading the Champions game features, I am left comparing this game to current MMO's and notable MMO's of the past.

Where is the Champions Online crafting? Player Quests? Battlegrounds? Scenarios? RvR? End Game raiding? Unlocks? World events? Reputation rewards? Gear? Guild facilities?

I see nothing in that game besides "creating a character" that is of any importance or depth. I have a feeling that the game is going to be CoH with updated graphics, and the ability to change your powers colors... yay?

Please someone give me a reason revolving around depth that will make me want to play this game, because god dammit, i really want to play a super hero MMO that hooks me

Even if Warhammer does have server merges.. I have a feeling that game isn't going away anytime soon.
It sure is a great game thus far.

ex (semi current) WoW player.. end game raider.. (We have the game on farm).. ex PvP'er when it was cool to do world PvP.

having said that.

Warhammer is fucking awesome.
the questing is good.
the PvP in Scenarios is great.
the RvR PvP is ridiculously awesome.. epic..incredible.
The abilities/tactics/morale etc are great
the way you level up from either PvE or PvP is great.
Player Quests = love.
the depth of this game is just damn impressive.

The one nitpicky thing.. the animations arent stellar and the graphics could be a tad cleaner - for 2008.

But the game is flat out awesome.

thanks fellas, I appreciate the answers.

I only went with the huge PSU because I thought I might need something that beefy.
I can go lower, no matter to me.

Thanks again.

What a god damn fantastic game.. good god there's tons of shit to do in this game.
I did my first Keep Siege last night, it was awesome.. good times.

Oh, on our Role Playing server (Phoenix Throne).. the admins post world messages to everyone when they ban a gold seller.

It shows up in a box on the middle of the screen.. some RP'ing nonsense about someone getting burned at the stakes or whatever. Funny stuff.

This game is awesome.

I have a Microsoft Action Pack in front of me.. with an unused copy of Windows Vista Ultimate 64.
The CD reads "the disc contains 64-bit software only"

I suppose that will work just fine? Or do I need an off the shelf version version of Ultimate that (as much as I'm reading).. has 64 and 32 bit support in one OS?

If I go with the 64 bit version of Vista (which i easily could), will I be able to use all the programs I want? I thought there was an issue with 32/64 bit versions of Vista and programs/games?

I don't plan to overclock-at least for a long while..

Enahs - all things being equal, why not get the Q6600 over the E8400.. especially if OC'ing is not an immediate issue.

6. PC Building Help Sep 22, 2008, 15:07 ColoradoHoudini
Hey fellas.. I'm looking to build a new PC.. and want to know what you guys think of this.
I'm trying to stay under 800 bucks.. what follows below gets me in at $757.00

I'll be using the new machine for Warhammer/TF2/whatever other big games come along (any genre)
I am going to go with Vista Ultimate (yes, i know...i can go back to XP if i hate Vista)

I am upgrading from:
Pentium D 930
Radeon x1800xt -256 meg
2 gigs ram

Running XP Pro
This machine will be regulated to a backup machine/file server once a new machine gets built.

Looking at getting:
Radeon HD 4850 512MB
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
4 gigs RAM - Kingston Hyper X DDR 2 1066
Lite On 20x burner
640 gig WD hard drive
730w Raidmax PSU

So first question.. is upgrading going to be worth it? Am I going to see a huge performance increase? Right now, Warhammer is running like a slideshow in large PvP sieges.
Is Vista Ultimate 32bit going to be the OS I want in the Vista family?
(free by the way, so if OS cost if a concern, throw that out)

I do want to multitask, like burn dvd's/convert video files while playing games/watching movies.. so I'd tax my machine a little bit.. but right now, I cannot burn while gaming.

At any given time, the large programs on my machine open are-
Warhammer (or some other game)
Newsgroups reader .. and it's downloading
firefox -multiple tabs
Of course, my anti virus/spyware/spam programs

Maybe just more RAM and a new video card would be enough?
My current mobo will supprt DDR2 800 and the above video card
Do I really need Quad Core? Or would a newer Core 2 Duo be better for me?

Of course.. for the same budget above, could someone suggest a better machine?

WoW vet here.. from an end game guild who has the entire game on farm. A day 1 player.. ex pvp'er.. etc.. hardcore WoW is what I'm saying.

I love Warhammer so far. I played a bit in one of the beta's a few months back, saw that it had promise.. and it is delivering thus far.
I love the classes, the lack of being pigeonholed into a spec and doing only that (like tanking and not being able to heal or do decent damage-WoW) is not present in Warhammer.

The environment is create.. the gameplay and controls are intuitive and spot on. The quests are laid out perfectly and explained thoroughly. Player Quests are a GREAT idea that works flawlessly for the most part (the loot distribution still puzzles me).. the PvP is awesome, i really just like this game.

okay.. for things I don't like:

This game could look better graphically. Maybe it's my settings (don't think so), but the game doesn't look as crisp as I'd like it to.

Some animations aren't fluid.

I am in a hardcore raiding WoW guild who has killed the end boss a few times now... I am a WoW fan.

Are you even playing Warhammer at all?
Actually, from your statement:
" Just what Mythic needs, another loose cannon. Thought we got rid of them when the DAoC team left. I bet Paul is another of those "I know what is best" devs that completely ignores the playerbase, he sure sounds like one. "

You probably have NO clue about this game at all. Paul B is directly in tune with all the players.. that guy is so damn accessible and let's the fanbase know exactly what's going on at all times. the why's/how's etc..this is the best dev team i've ever seen in any of my 14+years of PC gaming.

So with that said..
what makes you think there's more content in WoTLK than the entire Warhammer game?
Warhammer is chock full of content.. holy hell the game is damn polished in it's current state.
I think you're either just messing around, or you really don't know fuck all about Warhammer.

They better not pull this DRM nonsense with the new Red Alert game...

I too have bought all the previous C&C games, but if it has some DRM nonsense built in to it that prevents me from reinstalling the game..
oh boy.

I should be excited about this.. but instead, I'm feverishly reading Warhammer forums.. getting juiced for the impending fun.

I'm listening to my guildmates on vent right now talking about the game while they play.. they all love it.

I'm downloading the game right now on Direct to Drive... can't wait!!

Ridiculous.. DRM strikes again.

I for one, won't be buying this game now. My coworker (and fellow gaming nerd) wanted to pick this game up, but I just schooled him in on the DRM issues, so now he's out.
He was on his way to the store to put in his money for Warhammer and asked me about Spore.

Our T6/Sunwell Druid does decent damage in kitty form.. and she has the top gear you can get in the game, but she's not even close to our dual glaive rogues or super DPS hunters.
