Unreal |

I'm not has game-tech savy as many Blues readers are and I assume Epic created and owns the U3 engine.
Having said that, I'm suprised that no one(meaning large EA, MS, Sony size) has bought Epic yet. With Unreal always being a good seller(with the exception of Unreal 2 I reckon) and their engines always being used by alot of different game makers. Like when EA bought Criterion and with so many games using Renderware.
What do you guys think?

Agreed on Lost Planet. Awesome demo for what looks to be an awesome game. Is it just me or does that demo seem to have a ton of content for a game thats still a year off?
About Prey's lenght, Doom3 was a long game. Most people seemed to get bored with it and thought it would have been better had it been trimmed. Not me, I enjoyed Doom3 and thought the 8.0 to 8.5 score's it got were accurate.
I wonder if people will think Prey is to long as well?

I think that I come off as very "anti-ps2" to my friends but I agree with you 100% that everyone seems to call the PS3 a failure. Sony will take Japan, with only Nintendo even coming close I'd wager.
Altho I don't agree with only 3 good games for 360. Certainly those 3 are great games but so are GRAW, Burnout, Fight Night, COD2 and I know people seem to vary but I absolutely loved both Kameo and PDZ.
Now I know many of these games can be played on either current gen consoles or pc's but I think they are best played on 360.
With the exception of oblivion and cod2 which I know many people prefer for pc. I found laying back on my couch playing on a 55 inch lcd far better for oblivion and I prefer cod2 single player over the superior pc multiplayer.

I hope Sopranos is better this season than it has been the last couple of seasons. I found Rome to be the better show(compared to last 2 seasons, we'll see in the long run)much to the dislike of my wife

I may grab this for the 360. Whenever Gamestop calls me about my pre-order. Who knows when that will be.
I do hope its better than all these other ports of current gen games tho.

Best thing about the patch is that i can now free up my dvd drive for all these other games that always require the dvd. Even after being out for along time.:(

That monitor looks great to me. 4 ms refresh is very appealing, altho I'm still very happy with my 172x 12 ms monitor. I notice no ghosting at all.
Buying an lcd scares me now. I assumed that dead pixels were rare, boy was i wrong. Got my 172x at zippy-do-da and it had a bright red dead pixel close to the center of the screen.
After testing the hell out of it I was able to find two more lighter color dead pixels and got a replacement.
The replacement has a Green dead pixel that is about a quarter inch from the top of the monitor. If it must have a dead pixel, that is the ideal place, it's not bothersome at all.
Still, a $400+ investment, is it to much to ask for perfection? With lcd's apparently it is.
I want a new lcd so bad but I'm afraid to take the risk.

great summary creston. i remember most of that now. before it seemed like a jumbled mess(i remember the battles more so than the story).
i'll play thru it again in a few days. hopefully i will catch everything that creston and malakai explained.

played and finished quake 4 and fear. loved them both extremely, yet liked q4 slightly more than fear.
quake 4 was like a rush to me. have'nt been glued to a single player fps since HL2. before HL2 i was glued to doom3.
yet i had to force myself thru fear. i'd play a couple hours one day and not come back to it for 2-3 days.
quake 4 i finished in about 3-4 days playing 2-3 hours a day. and never went a full day between playing sessions.
i contribute that to 3 factors: 1-played the hell outta the demo, 2-like everyone says, it does indeed become repetitive during the middle and 3-no boss battles.
and after playing thru lost coast, i found that i dont miss the combat in hl2 at all. i think it was the environments and physics that hooked me in hl2. in doom3 it was the combat and theme(sci-fi, horror).

quake 4 and fear |

odd looking at gamerankings. fear is going down slightly and q4 goes up slightly. i knew fear would recieve generally high scores across the board but after hearing of the pcgamer review i was worried quake 4 was gonna be a disappointment.
i was wrong tho, i'm really loving it. i've played it alot more than fear so far but thats mainly because i played the awesome fear demo about 30 times. q4 is much newer to me i guess.
honestly tho, i love the war theme in a sci-fi setting. no matter how awesome cod2 looks, i just cannot get past the old ww2 weapons/theme anymore. my personal pc game collection i have several ww2 themed shooters, and i'm sure its much less than other people have, it just got so stale to me.
thats part of the reason i loved doom3 as much as i did. sure i can see people's complaints and understand them fully. i share some of them. but i played thru doom3 2 times, the expansion 2 times and i still load it up and play thru a level here and there at least once a month. i dont even do that to hl2! after the gimmick of the physics is played out and u have seen all the real-world like locations, i find the combat dull and the AI boring. and i refuse to play any level with your so-called "squad". talking about horrible design choices. i keep it installed but mainly just to show peeps how great looking it is and how well the interaction is.
only thing i dont like about q4 is that its far chuggier than doom3. its to be expect because u can see that all the geometry(indoors) is far more complex altho outdoors is fairly blocky(not overly so). i have seen levels so far that have had beams and wires and all kinds of animation all over the place and its a site to behold. plus the characters have far more detail and there always alot of chracters on screen. look at doom3's models. most have only a thumb and index finger that are seperate and they look kinda chunky. in q4 everyone has 5 fingers and they are rounded. i found that impressive. small attention to detail like that puts me in the game more.
running a contant 60 fps in doom3 at 1280 in high settings going to around 40 is a pain tho:(
edited by request(tryed to split it up in chunks.) heh never had a post that big didnt know it would be so "jumbled"

on my 55inch lcd sony and samsung dvd player that upconverts dvd's to hi-def, regular dvd's just don't cut it. compared to the hi-def hbo or even fox, nbc, cbs or even discoveryHD there is a huge difference. its all about what people want to notice for themselves tho really. i have a friend who thinks dvds are super awesome on my tv and i can barely watch them:( which sux cause i got 600+ dvds:( still some dvds dont look to bad i suppose. superbit dvds(all sony) and good video transfers from other studios(lotr, matrix, x-men2) tend to look the best.

gamerankings only has one review score posted and its game informer with 8.75. but they are like ign i find, they give good reviews out fairly easily. some site like gamespot will prolly give it 7.5 range. i'm looking forward to q4 so much i hope it's good enuff to be scored higher(meaning of course that the game is as good as i'm hoping).
