Space Captain has a 4 hour long track that's Shatner reciting the Beatles (I think. I listened to it once. Possibly LSD.) with a drum and bass overlay. Oh my god I want that...

I've done far worse than kill you, Admiral. I've hurt you. And I wish to go on hurting you.
I shall leave you as you left me, as you left her: marooned for all eternity in the center of a dead planet...
Buried alive.

Malakai, you forgot the part where people will still line up around the block for days and slaver over the PS3, talking about how it's the best console, how it has the best games, how it will give them blowjobs before they go to bed...
I think it's funny as hell how everyone believes the videos that Sony has shown. Anyone seen the PS2 videos they showed? We're still not even there.
If I had to buy a console between the PS3 the XBox360, I'd pick a XBox360.
Luckily, I don't have to make that choice, so I get to buy a Revolution.

Yeah I still think the ultima 9 thing was classy. They certainly didn't have to do it. I mean, Daggerfall didn't
As for Empire at War, I don't know if it's still the case, but when I bought it at Best Buy they gave me a $10 gift card.
Collector's Edition is a bit lame. I'd be willing to bet you can get the additional maps on the net by now. It was just another installer on a disk with no additional checks as far as I could tell...

There would have been a huge player backlash against these letters...
...but there aren't any players left.

I was flipping channels and some gaming show on Spike TV where they had Marc Ecko whoring out this game.
He's full of total bullshit. Spouting off on how gaming could be big if they just got with the program. Nevermind that it's bigger than hollywood already. But he and others want to get in and change the whole industry and then it'll be HUGE. Uh huh. Sure.
Let's just make it more of a corporate machine, where we pretend that it's not a corporate machine.
You know, like Ecko.

Supposedly within the first month they'll be adding new content, specifically the encounter with the red dragon. This is probably less to do with "oh it wasn't done" and more to due with "we want this to be fresh and not have details about it everywhere on the net at launch".
I wasn't really impressed with the game the first time i played it, but when i played the second stress test i had a lot more fun. Yeah,it's a little rough around the edges (the UI kind of sucks), but other than that I'm diggin' it.

There's a lot of pieces to the Symantec suite so I could see how it could be called Bloatware. It's very hard to disable and get it completely out of memory. Hell, it's pretty hard just to get it to uninstall. I have had numerous problems with various versions of Norton that had the installer fail and then would not run again, nor would it allow a new version to be installed.
Norton is pushing away from "just antivirus" and going into "we fix everything," and it's a pain in the ass in a lot of cases. For instance, its firewall program that is installed blocks local network traffic. You can see other computers. You can ping them. They can't ping you. I can understand this to a point when it comes to internet security, but blocking local traffic?

...and yet SOE is going down the tubes. They've managed to botch sure fire francises left and right and destroy games that people used to play. Then he has the gall to talk about "depth" in his games, after being at the head of a company that gutted all the depth out of it's games and seemingly has no plans to stop.
Years ago, RPGs on the PC nearly died. They nearly died because they were becoming cliche, meaningless. They were brought back by Baldur's Gate and Fallout, meaningful stories told in the game. We weren't just generic adventurer killing mobs to level, we were doing something with a greater purpose.
What's funny is that I've just described *every* MMO out there. MMOs have brought gaming backwards, and while I play and enjoy them, I can't say that MMOs offer much that is "revolutionary" besides being in a game with, well, a lot of players. Instead we're doing the most basic and banal tasks. Somehow this is ok, because we're doing it with multiple people.
Multiplayer gaming may become the end-all for gaming, but if it doesn't get off it's laurels and get past Everquest 1 gameplay, there's going to be a lot of backlash and a lot of games tanking. SOE should know that by now. If not, good riddance to them.

I never got too far into VtM:B. It really needed about 4 or 5 months more polish and bug fixing. A shame that it sat in limbo for 4 or 5 months before being released and didn't actually have any more work done on it...

So, frankly I think pro gaming is boring as hell to watch. But ah, I remember Thresh from the bad old days. Has Fatal1ty surpassed him? I remember Thresh's column in PC Gamer.
