9. HD DVD Oct 25, 2006, 14:07 strich

Has anyone picked up a HD DVD player yet? I'm starting to read a lot of good things about the quality of HD and was wondering if anyone had first hand experience? I have no idea as to whether it's a format that will stick around or if Blu-Ray is a better option, but i just read a review of MI:3 on HD and they said it rocked. I personally loved the movie, so i was wondering if it was worth the price. I know the players and movies are a little pricey, but it may be worth it.

edit: and yes, i know we discussed this a month ago, but i'm wondering if I'll have to wait two years for the price to reach a manageable price or it's worth taking the plunge.

They moved the close tab button onto each individual tab,

i'm using it and aside from the 'glassiness' of the tabs, i'm not seeing much of a difference. I was using a theme on the previous version that placed the close box on each of the tabs, so it's not a change for me. i kind of like having them there. i dig the dropdown option on the right to choose a tab to go to. that helps when you've got a bunch of tabs open from the same site and they're all labeled the same except for the end.

Something i didn't notice until i started responding to this post is it's got a built in spell checker. it's underlining words it thinks i've misspelled with a little red dotted line.

Honestly, this version and the new IE7 are starting to look more and more alike to me.

i can't agree with you more bats. and it's not just TO. we need to get rid of Bledsoe as well. he's had his day in the sun.

And how about Parcells? How many years do we keep him on until we can produce one of those Super Bowl teams? i'm wondering how much good he's doing with dallas.

no gloating over the game last night?

makes me glad that Tiki is retiring, so we may have a chance to beat you next year. and by then, hopefully, we'll have kicked Bledsoe to the curb and let Romo in for good or found someone else. we've not been the same since Aikman left.

Do you have small children?

One 10 year old boy. We did a lot of prep work before moving by throwing out a lot of stuff, boxing toys and items up with like items, so unpacking would be easier. And he was out of town when we unpacked his stuff, so we didn't have to work with/around him.

Were you moving from another house or from an apartment?

We moved from an apartment that was roughly 400 sq ft smaller.

Yeah, maybe, but we hate having boxes around. if they're packed up that long, might as well leave them out for the trash.

Firefox 2 out for download - http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/2.0/releasenotes/

You still aren't unpacked?

We moved into our house on June 1 of this year and were 100% unpacked by mid July. Ugh, i can't stand having boxes around with stuff still packed in them.

Who's seeing The Prestige this weekend? I can't wait...

i'd like to. whether i'll actually make it this weekend is another discussion. but i've read some great previews about it. i bet it'll be pretty great. Nolan really has the magic touch when it comes to films (no pun intended).

This year Hudson the wonder dog will be Spider-Man and Gunnar-man will be a criminal.

/shakes head...

oh Blue...

On a side note, did anyone catch Threshold on SciFi? it looks interesting, but i'm always initially wary of anything that's SciFi. Which is ironic considering the TV generally stays on SciFi most of the time. Plus, Carla Gugino makes me feel all funny inside.

Any opinions on BSG thus far?

Yes, i caught 21 Jump Street when it all first aired as well. I've got a few years under my belt.

I saw Night Watch and it did nothing for me.

I also forgot Pi: Faith in Chaos. Another favorite of mine.

TV wise, i assume you've seen everything that we've all discussed on the boards - Firefly, BSG, Sopranos...

some other favs are 24, X-Files, Millennium (check out this series if you want great tv), The Shield, 21 Jump Street (an oldie but goodie) and probably a dozen more i'm forgetting.

movie wise - Brick, Green Street Hooligans, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Unbreakable, Running Scared, The Osterman Weekend, Murderball, Crash, Layer Cake, Oldboy, Appleseed...

I'm going thru my Netflix queue. It goes on for thousands of movies.

Then you get genres, Horror being my fav and get some of the Miike stuff that's just so bizarre and repulsive that it makes you wonder.

I just found this on tvguide.com. I don't know how reliable it is, but for those who don't want to be spoiled, i't hidden.

SST:
Question: I just watched the Battlestar Galactica premiere, and holy frak! I can't believe how much I missed this show! Please give us some scoop on what's coming next.
Ausiello: I honestly can't even remember. It's been, like, six weeks since I took in the first four episodes, and the only thing I recall is the illicit kiss between Roslin and ****** in Episode 4. Luckily, AA intern Scott Sode just finished watching Episodes 2 through 4 at his desk (Best. Internship. Ever.) and filed this report: "It's all about the babies on BSG. Sharon's daughter will fall into the wrong hands, and Casey will give Starbuck some killer maternal instincts. Also, the rescue mission to save the people on New Caprica will go into effect, and Apollo will get off his 'fat ass' and do something about it." OK, Scott, get back to "work."

Question: Since you are the all-knowing, all-wise one in regards to all things Battlestar Galactica, is there any truth to the rumor circulating the Web that BSG will move to NBC?
Ausiello: None whatsoever. The show's publicist and I had a good laugh over that one.

Question: So… what's the Battlestar prattle you alluded to in last week's AA?
Ausiello: File this under frakelicious casting news: We're finally going to meet the woman who birthed Apollo. Lucinda Jenney (24, The Shield) has been cast as Commander Adama's late wife in a flashback-heavy episode airing later this season. I'm told the episode sheds light on their marriage and delves into how Bill struggled to balance family with his military career. Why don't we just call it what it is: Edward James Olmos' Emmy episode.

yeah, he always did look like he'd just stepped out of a gym every time we saw him shirtless.

from what i've read, this season will not only be darker, but very cylon-centric. we'll get a chance to see the inner workings of their race and how it functions.
