it was the first day MrsBlue and I picked for our wedding, but we had to change it because of a scheduling conflict

So what game was coming out that day... or was it a big lan party?

The Seattle Mariners are in first place!

The Seattle Mariners are in first place!

Sorry, it's just that I've got to say it while it lasts - hopefully 'till the end of the week.

I stopped recommending Norton several years ago when it hampered performance alot as well as broke some programs from working without warning. Kaspersky or Bit Defender are likely better in most regards.

Yeah, I was forced to use Norton AV at work a few years ago and still tell people it's just like having malware or a small virus on your computer. Personally, I still use AVG free. When version 8.0 came out a while back it was a big step backwards and I thought I was going to get rid of it but they've fixed it since and now the program runs as silently in the background as it used to. It may be using a bit more memory now, around 9 meg at the moment, but still, no issues.

Why do they re-make British shows for America

The only show on TV that I make sure I don't miss right now is Top Gear, which is on BBC America. And even though I love the show there are many jokes and references in every episode that there is no way in hell that I'll ever get - I'd simply have to live over there. Every week they have a celebrity guest and half the time I've never heard of them. While I can look past all this and still really enjoy the show, I don't think the U.S. as whole would, or at least I don't think the powers-that-be are going to risk that they would.

I got to try a couple of things I, being a city boy, never had done before, including shingling a roof and firing both a high-powered rifle and a handgun.

Having done all those things, I'd recommend the last two for pure manly fun but now leave the first one to professionals, especially if you have a back like mine.

4. Re: Out of the Blue - Whiny speakers Mar 24, 2009, 09:09 WarPig

I sometimes get the occasional ham radio or cell phone transmissions through my computer speakers. Probably ham radio but I don't know. Back in the mid 80's I lived next door to a ham radio enthusiast and I could sometimes hear everything he said over my TV until I proved to him it was happening by showing him VCR tapes that he'd ruined. At that point he admitted that he was broadcasting at power levels that were not legal and toned it down.

theyarecomingforyou, you just saved me! For the last couple hours I've been trying to recover my GTA4 saved games and settings from the data backed up from my old failed hard drive and you just gave me the answer. Thanks!

But the reason for going through all this was to try out the new "remapping patch" so I could hopefully start using the right mouse button to move forward. I've been using this scheme since the original Doom and so far this is the only game that won't do it. So I feel your pain jimnms.

Blue, are you getting my emails?

Hey nin, maybe Blue has just run out of tactful ways of saying, "I'm sure your van is nice but no, I don't want to go camping with you - I don't care how big your sleeping bag is."

That's funny because I was just talking to a friend about the same thing a few days ago. It's like the president of Geico felt obligated to promise his new young wife's second cousin who just started his own ad agency a shot at the big-time. They're just terrible.

Just a reminder to anyone out there ready to build a new computer - do NOT buy a Seagate Barracuda hard drive! Mine finally died a couple days ago. It was installed in Sept '08 which means it lasted longer than most people's. Plus the firmware update didn't work with the drive so I'm just going to call it a learning experience and get something new.

The good thing is that thanks to this site (I believe it was Ant who dug it up) I was able to read about the problem in advance, buy an external HD, and ghost my Seagate a couple weeks ago. So thanks Blue and probably Ant.

It is ugly out here right now....

I hear ya. Early this fall my company started working 72 hrs every two weeks so everyone could keep their jobs as long as possible. Still, the layoffs started around Thanksgiving. I was finally laid off the week after Christmas but was pimped out to another company for three weeks last month. I started back last week doing my regular job and have been working free overtime because other people's jobs depend on me getting the machine I'm designing ready for manufacture.

No pressure or anything!

I never liked Acer. Used one of their laptops once and the quality was rubbish. I never even look at their stuff anymore.

It's funny how things work out for different people, one of my work laptops is an Acer which I started using two years ago and I have to say it's been rock solid from day one. Plus I know there are at least two more Acer laptops and at least four Acer monitors floating around work that have worked out just fine.

Did they run out of timeouts or something and the clock would have run out if they didn't make it on the first try?

That's it exactly. There were only 15 seconds left and they had no timeouts. If they had played to save time earlier in the drive (at one point they used at least 30 seconds after a Hightower first down which ran the clock under a minute) they then would have at least had the option of a run or two which could have made play-action a threat. As it was the Steelers knew that they didn't have to worry about the run.

Great game though. Disappointing maybe, but wildly entertaining.

I think that's a great idea Blue. I've always hated the two week layoff also (next year they're playing the Pro Bowl during the off-week... whoop-de-dooo). The only idea I like better than your Saturday night game idea is turning the Monday after into a National Holiday.

Obviously a collision at that speed would have been trivial

Just as long as the car you were hitting wasn't a Pinto!

Someone needs to read up on the term "brick" and what it stands for...if it is recoverable, it isn't bricked.

Not technically, but as far as I'm concerned, when someone has a HD turn useless they can call it anything they want until they strip it out of their machine, wait for an RMA number, package it up, probably pay shipping, wait until it gets back, and then finally get up and running again.

At that point it's not a brick.

Add to that the cost of the new, non-Seagate drive that was probably bought in the meantime to get up and running while all this is happening.

And this is also counting the free data recovery that Seagate just announced this week. What does 500GB of data usually cost to recover if you had to pay for it?

That song has a crazy time signature.

Do any of these "music games" have any Tool songs? I asked a friend of mine who's been a professional musician for nearly 30 years to listen to a couple Tool tunes and tell me what the time signature was and it was something like - "thats 5/4... now it's 4/4 but this part I think is 7/8... ok now it's back to 4/4..." It wasn't that exactly but it was weird.
