I'll be picking up Dishonored sometime soon, the buzz is just to much to be ignored.

Glad to see GW2 is still selling strong as well.

What a fall for gaming. It started with Guild Wars 2 in late August and has only grown from there. Steam top 5 attests, it is a great fall for gaming.

TL2 > D3 in every conceivable way.

It's funny because before they both hit I would never have dreamed that would be true. TL1 was good, but it was no Diablo 2. Oh how the tables have turned.

To each their own Ozmodan. I'm not much of an LoL fan but I do enjoy watching tourneys for other games. Watching the most skilled players in the world do amazing things you didn't realize were possible as they battle for supremacy can be more exciting than you'd think.

Not just cheating, intermittent power and internet connectivity issues, teams were not in a booth so they could see the big screen, had sun shining on their own screens apparently.

I have a friend who was there. He said it was absolutely horrid. They had to start over several matches because of issues and over six hours had only about 3 'completed' matches. Riot majorly dropped the ball.

Interestingly they wouldn't have had any of these issues if they weren't trying to further monetize the game by hosting the competition at an outdoor open venue.

26. Re: WoW Passes 10M Subscribers Again Oct 4, 2012, 13:27 Fion

The article notes;

for reference, Blizzard’s Wrath of the Lich King add-on sold 2.8 million and Cataclysm sold 3.3 million in a similar period of time.

This isn't true. LK sold 2.8 million in 24 hours, Cata sold 3.3 million is 24 hours. So you can pretty up the numbers all you like, this still is a disappointment in the boardroom.

News Comments > Guild Wars 2 Patched
33. Re: Guild Wars 2 Patched Oct 2, 2012, 19:23 Fion

Well there are a lot of great games out atm, so it makes sense that less folks are on GW2 right now. Between MoP (meh.. imho), Torchlight 2, Borderlands 2, FTL and with XCom: EU next week, it's a busy time for all gamers. But I think that explains why some numbers have dropped on like Xfire.

That said, I still log in about every day for an hour or two, more on weekends. Servers are still packed, some are full on primetime, so the game isn't dying by any means. My guild has thinned a fair bit but I think that again is do more to the recent fantastic game releases (IMHO best September in years!) I think once things slow down I'll start seeing a lot of guildies online again.

I've said for a while that Sims 3 is the buggiest game ever made. I cant verify that but personal experience shows that to be true. When they make the next one (and you know they will), they need to build the engine from scratch.

News Comments > World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria Launches
50. Re: World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria Launches Sep 25, 2012, 16:14 Fion

Normally a new WoW expansion gives me that little bug until I pick it up. Pandaria oddly hasn't what so ever. I don't know if it's the new asian or kid focus, or that WoW hasn't been any fun since TBC. Then again with GW2, TL2, BL2 and others, who has the time?

I have a few friends who are picking this up and still play WoW. But not because it's fun, because they feel if they quit, they'll have wasted $6+ grand in subscription fees, character transfers, pets, plushies, expansions, etc for 5+ accounts between my buddy, his wife and eldest son.

The rest of my friends and I are playing GW2 mostly, and having entirely to much fun. That WoW playing friend refuses to try the game.

Oooh the nightmare of complexity and problems PC users have. It's horrible! lol.. the misconceptions of mac users really are funny. My recommendation to this guy? Get a PC. Don't like Microsofts image sharing software? Then buy one of the myriad third party programs that fits your likes and needs better instead of being forced to use Apples shitty software.

I'm with you eRe4s3r. Drives me nuts as well.

You're damn right it scares the fuck out of them. They fear going down the same road the music industry has. It's getting to the point where a new Modern Warfare game every year just won't cut it.

DA:O remains Bioware's top selling game of all time outside of SW:TOR. I hope EA takes that into account with the third installment. I do hope, but frankly don't expect the third game to be anything special. To me DA:O was the last great game Bioware ever made. I've been nothing but disappointed with every title released since then.

I like GW2 but the longevity is not there as many will soon see.

I recommend you watch Wooden Potatoes video on End Game. Here, I'll even link it for you.

The idea that an MMOG should cater out repetitive content to keep people playing for as long as possible is simply yet another old MMOG trope (or.. brainwashing, I'd prefer to think), that just does not pertain to GW2.

News Comments > Guild Wars 2 Digital Sales Resume
10. Re: Guild Wars 2 Digital Sales Resume Sep 11, 2012, 14:04 Fion

Good to know sales are resuming from their website. I have several friends (both online and irl) who want to purchase the game but have been unable to find it anywhere.

My main hit 30 last night. I'm really taking my time with the game, though I do have a number of lower lvl alts lol. I'm very much enjoying myself, the game has only grown on me since launch and every day I log in I'm having more and more fun than I was the day before (which hasn't happened to me since WoW vanilla!).

I've noticed a handful of broken events. I've bugged each and everyone one of them. I actually had the experience of a dev fix one right as I was doing it. The fun little event in Gendarran Fields with the kids looking for treasure. It was broken about 1/2 way though and someone at Anet (with the symbol over their head) popped in, a few seconds later was gone and the event resumed. Loving that they are so on top of this stuff and that they don't have to bring the server down for 5 hours with every little tweak or patch.

Creston wrote on Sep 9, 2012, 22:08:
So, on a more normal topic, question about WvWvW. Played it for awhile this afternoon, it was pretty cool, though it seemed largely pointless as we kept zerging back and forth between an enemy keep and our own home base. They'd rush us, we'd get overrun, they'd follow us to our home base where we'd regroup, we'd drive them back, at which point they would retreat into the keep, and since we didn't have the manpower to break down the gate (which had at least a MILLION hitpoints. I guess it was made from the souls of the damned, or something), and back and forth and back and forth.

Anyway, it earned okay XP, and decent karma, but how the heck do you make money in WvW? I got my 50 kills for my monthly (against ~ 7 or 8 deaths, so not too bad, I think), and the grand amount of loot I got out of it was worth approximately 30 coppers. In the mean time, I spent about 10 silvers repairing my shit every time I died. So how is this a financially viable method of leveling up? Am I missing something? I got loot from only a few guys that I killed; most of them left nothing...

Is there some secret to getting rewarded in WvWvW that I'm not privy to?

Creston

I'll never understand the whole 'if it doesn't have a carrot, it isn't fun' mentality. That said, Creston if you want to enjoy World vs World I recommend finding a guild that has a presence in WvW on your server. It's a whole hell of a lot more fun that way when you have a coordinated group using siege weapons and other tactics to crush the roving zergs.

It's the servers with large WvW focused guilds that own the hell out of everyone else because use of tactics, good siege weapon placement, etc. The only downside is of course the queue times.

Players can now do the production portion of crafting without having to pull the resources from their bank.

THANK GOD. Glad to see they're working on getting discovery to work the same way.

I don't think I'd like discovery to work out of your bank like regular crafting. It would take all the.. discovery out of it. Crafting different items and seeing how they might combine, discovering new items by looking at special crafting mats and trying to mix and match is what I find most fun about the crafting. If all mats showed in discovery it would simply become a game of 'click the highlighted items'. IMHO, that would take all the fun out of it.
