Ghost Recon may not have been a port, but the effects of wanting to please the console players it played like a console game-so many may have assumed it was a port. It wasn't true to it's PC roots and destroyed the franchise for many. Ditto for Rainbow, starting with Lockdown and continued with it's various reincarnations in Vegas--another legacy ruined. It really doesn't matter if it was a direct port or not great games have been dumbed down and the PC capabilities for more control options taken away. Hell, I won't even get into that console mess called Blazing Angels that they passed off on the PC community.
As for their DRM--too much and it is flawed--UBI even gave away free games to those affected by their draconian measures. Which would indicate to me they are quite aware of the problems. They even tried to pass it of as a DOS attack--right.
As I and many others have said--It's time for UBI to get out of the PC market |

All I can say is ditto!!! Have you seen the inside of the EA building (IN CANADA)-- they have thier own B-ball court--and they can't make Canadian eligible!!! Look at the fluff they have at EA and they are charging $44 CND for Awakenings---cheap bastids!

Yes I did and the game play was way above any of the Ghost titles handed out by UBI. Those that I play with online from those days agree as well. |

UBI----on lineDRM (it worked so well with SH 5 that tey are giving away free game s for compensation)---no thanks.
As for calling it Ghost Recon--they destroyed that franchise a LOOOOOOOONG time ago (as they did to raven shield)by dumbing them down to the consoles. They are continuing to use the name to drive sales.
If it's console only fantastic!!!! As long as they get completely out of the PC gaming market. |

If I have said once, I have said it 1000 times "UBI SHOULD GET OUT OF THE PC MARKET" !
As to all those that said this DRM wouldn't be a problem and couldn't care less about it---  . You deserve itbecause you continue to support them with your money. |

Had the same problem on the release date. I gave up and waited
18hrs and all is working fine--could update, login, redeem codes and play. EA should have anticpated the hit its' servers would take on release day--so no excuse for their incompetence, but all went well when I got home from work and started up the game. |

Don't make games for UBI, have contracts the stipulate less draconion DRM, contracts states that developer must approve DRM or they are free to take their game to a publisher of their choice. |

I'm just way to obsessed with the Silent Hunter series to pass this up. I can't even count how many hours I've sunk (haha) into SH3/SH4 over the years.
I'm buying it even though I don't have the most reliable DSL connection (my DSL modem occasionally loses its link). A recent preview of SH5 indicated that the net connection has to be down for several minutes in order to cause problems. Mine's never down for more than a minute, so at this point I'm not terribly worried about it.
If I were talking about some generic game of some generic genre like Assassins Creed 2, I wouldn't even think about buying it with such a restrictive DRM scheme. But there's never been a game quite like SH5 before (see the preview, a submarine simulation with RPG elements!), I'm going to love every minute of it.

Ubi hasn't dome much more more than port games to the PC for a while.
This DRM is the killer.--No Sales.
As for GHOST RECON--they ruined that franchise a long time ago when they gave it the consolitus touch. Ditto with Rainbow Six.
They really should just discontinue making PC games--it would be in the gamers and their shareholders best interests.
As for for those that say the DRM is ok--they really do need to get their heads out of the sand and read how it WILL affect them in a negative manner. (see post 45)

They obviously haven't figure out the 'Best Way' yet. Just another way to screw over the paying customer.
I haven't bought any UBI titles for quite a long time (Rainbow Los Vegas?) 1st because they continually ruin franchises such as Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon by dumbing them down and now there philosophy of punishing the paying customer with draconian DRM.
They sould just quit developing games for the PC.
