licensing fees arent paid per game. if youve already paid for it and your people know it, why not use it? Generally speaking, this is very wrong. License agreements vary, but many of them work on a per game/per SKU basis.
There are, however, any number or reasons why it might make more financial sense to license an engine rather than create/support/update/modify one you already own the source code for.

Even after slaughtering Klingon's wholesale in PvP, or being slaughtered by them, the players are pretty cool and there's usually compliments all around. Just fyi, that won't last long after launch. |

I like how defrauding a business partner (which in essence is what this is) gets you a 4.6 million dollar penalty, whereas "stealing" 20 songs online gets you a 2.something million dollar penalty. There's no 2.something million dollar penalty for 'stealing' songs, there's a penalty for distributing songs...ie, sharing what you've downloaded for other people to download. |

Pretty well known that the gaming industry is a sweat factory in terms of unpayed overtime. A friend of mine started as a 3D artist but left the gaming industry because of this. Not a universal truth. |

| I want this game to do well, but I know too much about Cryptic/Atari's deal and the state of Champions Online to have any real hopes for it. |

I dont understand the obsession with "growth". Why does every company want to "grow" or even need to grow every single year.
Whats even worse is the terror that less growth inspires in company executives.
"OH MY GOD, we saw an increase in sales of 5% this year compared to a 10% that we head last year! OH NO THE WORLD IS GOING TO END"
Jesus Christ, its not like you are making LESS money this year than last, its just that your profits were less than you expected.
Its a greedy and fucked up world we live in... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recession |

| I have it on good authority that Infinity Ward and Activision do not care about the PC market for CoD games as they represent about 1/8 to 1/12 of the sales they get from consoles. |

Ugh. I can't believe I'm going with HellSlayer on this one... I don't give a damn about what Tiger does in his private life, that's between him and his wife (and/or mistresses). The game is about golf, he's a great golfer. End of story. Agreed. |

| Not only have I not had a landline in years, I've also avoided services that require a landline...such as DSL internet or even services like DirectTV that require a landline to be able to order PPV. |

Yeah Twitter sucks and will dissapear before long, and rightly so. The attrition rate after 2 weeks is something like 80%. Fucking Twitter, and they wonder why ADD and autism is increasing in kids. This is such a load of shit, and I'll tell you why.. |

U.S. was Warned of Predator Drone Hacking Not to downplay this too much, but I can't help but believe that someone in the US government is adamantly forewarned about pretty much every conceivable thing imaginable. They were probably warned that the predator drones would develop artificial intelligence, succeed from the US military, declare war, and start bombing day-cares in Akron, Ohio.
Nothing bad ever happens without someone stepping forward saying, "I warned about this happening years ago!" It's not precognition, it's monkeys hammering out Shakespeare. |

The Champions Online Website has news of a charity drive being conducted by one of the players of NCsoft's MMORPG, using some of the useless items that populate their game for some reason. Word is: "Community member Mighty_Pencil has offered to donate a Build-A-Bear teddy to needy children during the holidays for every 1,000 sets of "Matching Pen and Pencil Sets" he receives in-game." This forum thread has all the details. Champions Online is Cryptic Studios/Atari game. NCSoft has nothing to do with it. |

At this rate they won't have any subscribers left. Last numbers I heard put them at over 500k in North America/Europe alone. I don't know what their subscriber base is in the east, but I know it's higher.
All in all, it's one of the more successful MMOs on the market right now. |

They do have a massive update coming down the pipe as well. Underwater zones, giant raid bosses, graphical updates, new weapon types for every class, etc etc.
I might have to get back into it again...especially if they can let me level up through their quest system rather than having to grind on mobs. |
