Seemingly none, in this case.
About the same advantage of paying for a game in order to play it. |

I agree that Diablo III should be a first person game.
I would also add that they could stand to tweak the art-style a bit, perhaps something more akin to what they're doing in Halo. Less swords and demons, more aliens and space-marines.
The controls could also be tweaked a bit to work better on the console in the new FPS viewpoint. Maybe tone down the whole class and skill tree elements and just focus on one main character.
And they should totally add some vehicles, maybe a bit of multiplayer game modes.
I like Halo a lot. |

What's he's really saying between the lines is so glaring it's like the sun. I was going to give Cryptic the benefit of the doubt on Neverwinter, but with Perfect World involved it's pretty much all over but the crying at this point. I suspect Cryptic will shut it's doors before too much longer. Bah, he's off to Zynga. They leech designers out of every company in the bay area like Facebook and Google leech programmers. |

I love how their arrogance kept right on going until hundreds of thousands of people quit their subscription. And now all of a sudden they're humble and customer-focused.
Creston They increased the cost for their service by 60% and lost about 1.6% of their customers (400k of 25mil worldwide). I don't think there's any business out there that would consider that a failure. |

Wow...holy crap. The last time I heard an announcement that admitted their project 'wasn't perfect' was all the press buildup for Indiana Jones and KotCS
That whole thing could have defintely been worded better. |

| Does this remind anyone else of Borderlands? I mean, not just a little bit...without knowing this was Rage I would think that they were taking a slightly different tact for Borderlands 2 and going back to the original, less interesting art style. |

I guess this means we're in for a string of mediocre Zombie games instead of the one really great Zombie game that everyone really wants. |

In fairness, a bit of shopping can get you Gold membership more in the $29-$39 range. It still should be free, but I think they'll have a much harder time getting a similiar monthly fee from PC users.
As someone who's not an eltist PC snob, I like XBox Live. I've only had gold membership off and on over the years, but the access to community, secondary services, demos, DLC, arcade games, and achievements is really nice. Very comparable to Steam on the PC.
It only makes sense that this service would eventually be integrated on PCs.

Bought my first computer (486 DX2-50) largely to play this game and Ultima VII. Only had 2mb of ram in it, so it took half an hour of HD paging to load into each mission. I spent all that time eagerly watching the loading bar.
Also remember my dad wandering in once and commenting, "Hey, that's Ginger Lynn!" "Who's Ginger Lynn?" "Uh...nothing." |

FFS, you put civilians into a shooter and they're either A) unkillable, which is dumb or B) killable, which means everyone kills them and the anti-game pundits have a fukin field day trumpeting the mass-muder simulators.
It's a no-win situation. Let's get the basics of a 'deeper and more involving' game experience before we start throwing civilian cannon-fodder into our games. |

You guys are thinking about DRM too narrowly, rather than applying it to any form of digital data. Finding ways to secure data for commercial enterprises is a huge issue right now that affects all forms of print, media, movies, television, games, every bit of content on the internet, etc.
The point was made that a person with access to google has a superhuman amount of knowledge available at their fingertips, more than any single expert. That's technology enhancing human capabilities even if it's not 'metal in meat'. We have staggering capabilities to access information, communicate, navigate...things we often take for granted as part of the modern world. Who knows where we'll be even 10 or 15 years from now. |

Not surprised any Valve game sells better on the PC than console. Even portal would be slightly more enjoyable with a mouse/keyboard control imo.
But L4D selling better on the 360? That's quite surprising. |

Beamer wrote on Aug 26, 2011, 17:03:
It is one thing to churn out quick DLC content post release of a game, but it is sickening to see companies not even attempt to hide the fact they are excluding content months in advance just to make some extra cash at the consumer's expense. They're not excluding!
In a game like Skyrim a billion ideas come up. Some of those ideas get cut because they suck. Other ideas get cut because they simply don't have enough time or money. With DLC, they can revisit those ideas at a later date. So, when sitting in a project meeting and realizing they need to take something out, rather than going through the heart-wrenching process of deciding what audiences never need to see they can instead just say "well, we'll add this later on."
It's not "excluding," it's giving you something that you wouldn't have seen otherwise. I swear, it's like some of you think that these companies either have infinite budgets and infinite time or you think they're exactly perfect with their time planning and never have to drop features and content as they move closer to release. Speaking as a developer, things that are cut before going into beta--or worse submitting for concole TRC--are prime candidates for future DLC.
While the release candidate is going through all of the testing and bug-fixing, content creation can continue on things all that stuff seperately from the game without endangering the release date as it's not part of the game game. That content can be finished, tested, and certified ready for release shortly after launch or even on day one.
No problem with DLC here. Like games, you should take a few minutes to seek out reviews and see what you're getting for your money. And this time-limite exclusivity is perfectly acceptable to me. Wish more bonus content/DLC had been done this way (I'm looking at you Mr. Play-as-the-Joker in Arkham Asylum on the PS3) |
