like turn based gameplay? Nope. If you're looking for that I guess Silent Storm and the likes are better choices. Aftershock will use an improved version of the S.A.S. system from Aftermath. Even though I too prefer TB I think the system will be fine. With the added tactical options like prone, crawl, snipe from rooftops and so on it may end up great in fact. Time will tell. |

I had the pleasure of meeting Robert in the Czech Republic just before Christmas, and he's a very cool guy
Regarding Aftershock, I am fairly confident it will be quite an improvement over Aftermath. They've added quite a few features that people missed and improved most aspects of the game really. |

The official sequel to SS, Sentinels, has a virtually impossible mission very early on. I did feel a bit ripped off by that because it made the game so painful I couldn't be bothered going back. There are ways to turn off AI in this mission to make it doable. Don't know what they were thinking with that UN bomb mission! |

So is this an unofficial sequel to SS? It started out as a modification for S2 in fact. But somewhere along the road Nival decided to sign up the mod as a full game. Probably due to it's high quality and potential. The sci-fi elements are not present in this game, so it's not really a sequel. It's similar in setting, but a bit more realistic. |

Well, both JoWooD and Nival said they would like to do Silent Storm 2 some time ago. At present though, they have more than enough other stuff on their minds :). With Nightwatch (using a modified S3 engine I believe), Heroes of Might and Magic 5 and the other games they do, it will not happen just yet. Maybe after the English version of Nightwatch hit the streets.
There is also the mod for S2, Hammer & Sickle, that is now turning into a game. Can't remember when it's to hit the streets, but it's getting closer.
Anyway, enjoy S3! I haven't gone through it myself yet because I'm very pressed for time these days. It's as hard as it's good! We'll hear it soon enough if Nival decides to do Silent Storm 2.
How's things in RL? Good to have the comments up again here!

A company with so many excellent PC games behind them as Nival shouldn't be used for producing dumbed down games for consoles
UPDATE: I just got this reply from Nival: "Keep calm, PC branch will stay intact :)". Thank God!

This is great! Welcome back! It's been a long time indeed. Would have liked to see another board implemented in the meantime though...

About S3. |

A few comments. First off, the "official" short version of the names are S2 for Silent Storm and S3 for Silent Storm: Sentinels. Not that it matters all that much, but SS gives some people rather negative associations
As for the release in Europe, it's been very quiet. I recently realized Silent Storm Gold had S3 in it as well.
As for the release of S3 in the US, it will probably take some time. JoWooD is working with it at the moment, but I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't released over there until Christmas, or the start of next year.
As for where to get Silent Storm Gold, I'd recommend http://www.play.com/play247.asp?searchtype=allproducts&searchstring=silent+storm+gold&page=search for most European countries (cheap, and shipping included in the prise), and for the US some people have used http://www.gogamer.com. Read more http://forum.nival.com/eng/showthread.php?t=27084.
As for how good S3 is, I've played it for a while and REALLY enjoyed it. It's like a super polished version of S2 with some very nice features added. I have seen no scifi stuff so far (didn't like the PKs and stuff in S2 myself), but I think there may be some at the end. You can read a good review at http://www.actiontrip.com/reviews/silentstormsentinels.phtml.

youd think they would be able to listen to all the people that said it was a peice of shit and should have been much more like x-com... considering 90% of people who saw the game said that I would suggest you read the interview we'll have online today or tomorrow. The sequel will be much closer to what people wanted from the first one. I'll send the link to Blue's when it's up.

What I posted below is mostly fact. I'm not one of the fanboys that think Aftermath is the greatest game ever. Silent Storm is better, simple as that. I did get annoyed with all the attacks on ALTAR based on misunderstandings or lack of knowledge in the beginning however, and vented some of my frustration here. For that I am sorry.
I do however think Aftermath has great potential. That is an opinion, and it's up to you to decide what you think. Reason I tried to explain a few things below, is that I run a Aftermath fan-site, and am in contact with ALTAR on a regular basis. Thus I know more about the trouble they faced than most others, and it could help explain a few things for some.

Yeah, UFO2000 is fun. Been a while since I tried it though. Probably improved a good deal since then.
Invasion 2021 was new to me. Looks interesting from the screens! Thanks for the heads up.
Regarding Xenocide, I would also love to see some tactical stuff. Only thing I've seen so far is textures and models. Quite a bit of that posted at their boards though.

Believe it or not, but there are quite a few people out there that like UFO:Aftermath. The official site have pretty much all the reviews there is listed, as you can see here: http://www.ufo-aftermath.com/pages/press.html
The average is about 70 % as Awesome says I believe. And we have had a fairly good modding community compared to for instance Silent Storm. I find that strange, since I think S2 is a better game. I like Aftermath, but S2 is stunning.
S2 (and the upcoming S3) does however lack the strategic part, and that's sorely missed from my point of view. It was simplified in Aftermath as well, but at least there was some of it. And the voices is as bad in S2 as in Aftermath
But back on topic. Aftermath sold more in preorders than Cenega expected it to do in it's lifetime. It was the first "big hit" for them as far as I know. And therefore I am positive that they are willing to put some serious resources into the sequel. I hope so at least, and the trailer looked promising quality-wise.
You should also be aware of the situation ALTAR were in when they developed Aftermath. Vivendi (or who it was that gave them Dreamland) abandoned them shortly after they started, and thus they were without a publisher for most of the development period. And it's not easy to develop a game without money ;).
My point is that ALTAR is in a much better position to give us what we want now, and they listen closely to their community. So even though I guess I'm kind of biased, I'll ask you to at least be open minded.
