Dude, seriously? IE9 is two years old. Those versions of FF and Chr are only a few months old.

IE9 might be two years old, but it gets regular updates. Chrome (and now Firefox) change version numbers with every update. Would it be fair to compare the newest versions of Chrome and Firefox to an IE9 that hasn't been updated in months?

NSS subjected Apple Safari 5, Google Chrome 15-19, Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 and Mozilla Firefox 7-13

So they tested the newest version of IE and compared it to old versions of Firefox and Chrome?

Everyone who bought the humble indie bundle 2 has this game. Ask for your keys and youll get the steam key for cortex command.

I saw it on the main Steam page this morning and remembered it was in Alpha from one of the bundles. If you look on your Humble Bundle #2 page it will have a Steam key for it there, and the DRM free download has already been updated to 1.0.

I thought it looked cool from when I first saw it on the Humble Bundle, but I never played the alpha. I figured I'd wait till it released, and after all this time I just figured they'd given up on it. I'm glad they finished it, and I can't wait to try it out.

Yeah, so everyone's going to hate me now but I loved Voyager and couldn't ever get into Deep Space 9. Voyager wasn't perfect (they really castrated the Borg and introduced then ruined Species 8472) but I still loved watching it.

I remember watching a few episodes of it when it first came on and didn't like it. This was before DVRs and I didn't schedule my life around TV shows either. Later on one channel was running it in order. They would show like 4 episodes on Mondays, and I would record them and watch during the week. I actually enjoyed it. Maybe it had been too long since I had a Star Trek fix.

I also didn't like DS9 when it first came on, but after I finished Voyager I needed more Star Trek. Another channel had been running it in order, but I came in mid series. I started recording it anyway and watched it through to the end. They restarted from the beginning, but then just ended before I got back to where I came in.

Not wanting to suffer withdrawal, I noticed 4 or 5 different channels were all airing STTNG. None of them seemed to be showing it in order, they were all just random episodes. I set my DVR to record every instance. I did watch STTNG when it was new, but like I said I didn't organize my life around TV shows. At first I was just looking at the episode descriptions and watching ones that didn't sound familiar. Then after a several weeks, between all the different channels it began to fill in the gaps and I had the entire first two seasons in order, so I just started from the beginning and watched through to the end. There were only a hand full of episodes that I had not seen or just didn't remember. I had just finished watching the entire series when they announced that they were going to release it on Blu-ray.

I also wasn't able to watch Enterprise when it was new because our cable co. didn't carry the channel it was on. I did manage to watch it years later when the SciFi channel began to show it. I didn't notice and start watching until the middle of season two. I just happened to be browsing the channel guide when I saw it, and saw it. The episode I started on I missed the first half of it. When they got to the end, they restarted from the beginning and I watched it up to that episode, and would you fucking believe that when it got back to the episode I started on, the cable cut for the first half of that episode. I don't know the name of the episode, but I think I remember enough detail about it that I could find if if I looked up episode guides.

5. Re: Oct 2012 Rig Build Sep 28, 2012, 22:45 jimnms

I agree that an i5 would be better for gaming and overclocking and is cheaper. You shouldn't need to overclock it as my system with a first gen i5 750 at the stock 2.66GHz with a GTX 470 GPU can run every game I have maxed out. I did play with overclocking when I got it and I could take it up to 4.2GHz but it ran a bit hot. Any higher and it started to get errors on stress tests. I put it back to stock speeds and left it there since nothing has challenged it.

When you say no liquid cooling, are you ruling out coolers like the Corsair Hydro series? If so I think think you should really reconsider. I have the H50 and it is absolutely silent. I will never go back to the old heatsink and fan as long as these are around. It is a sealed system, so you don't have to worry about coolant and routing tubes. The fan and radiator mount where the rear fan goes, so there's no gigantic heatsink and fan mounted over the CPU to get in the way of other components.

I'm not partial to any particular mobo manufacturer, although my last three systems have had ASUS boards. I usually don't start researching and checking reviews on this stuff until I start planning a build.

For RAM, just stick with the good brands, and if you're overclocking get RAM that will run at the speeds you plan to run at. Go with 8GB minimum, but since you've got a nice budget why not go for 16GB. I originally had 4GB, but bought the 8GB on sale. My original 4GB kit is OCZ and the 8GB is Corsair. I ran with the 8GB for a week or so to test since I wasn't sure if the old RAM would play nice with the new RAM since they were different brand and timings. Even with 8GB it did hit the swap file with some games, but I was able to run both giving me 12GB and Windows has never touched the swap file since.

Going with a higher rated PSU won't use more electricity. I remember reading an article a while back that tested a bunch 80+ PSU's and found that PSU's are most efficient when run at about 50%. Search for a power supply calculator and see what you need. If your system needs 400 Watts, get an 800 Watt PSU. It will also leave room for expansion if you want to go SLI later. I have an 1100 Watt PSU, which IS overkill, but I won it in an online draw thingy. My UPS has a front display that can show power consumption and the power consumption was no different after putting in the 1100W PSU than the 650W it replaced. The 80+ cert if I remember just means that a PSU is 80% or greater efficient at 20% and higher loads.

One thing to keep in mind is modular power supplies are longer than regular ones. It shouldn't be an issue since they are more common now, but two builds ago I bought a modular PSU and had a hell of a time getting it in the case. My current case is easy to swap out. It has a plate on the back that you unscrew, attach to the PSU and slide in from the back then screw the plate back on to the case.

Personally I wouldn't even go with an SSD, IMO the price just isn't worth saving a few seconds on boot/load times. But it's your budget, if you have the money and think it's worth it, go for it.

Hey Verno, I found out why that Borderlands 2 music is so badass... it's fuckin Jesper Kyd again! That is one busy man.

I don't know who that is, but Borderlands 2 is one of the few FPS games that I play with music on. It just fits in and flows with the game just right. I don't remember if BL1 had music or if I turned it off. Other games have great music, but in first person games I prefer it off because it ruins the immersion. Fallout New Vegas for example has awesome music that I can listen too by itself (it re-uses a lot of music from FO1 and FO2), but I play with the music turned off because it kills the immersion. I like to hear the ambient sounds of my environment, and to be able to hear if something is sneaking up on me.

I had a cat that didn't go out very often, but sometimes when she did go out she would stay out for 2-3 days then return home. One time after a week we started to get worried. Weeks went by and we figured something happened. Two years later I opened the front door to go somewhere and she walks in. She acted like she hadn't even been gone. I worried about letting her out again, but I couldn't force her to stay in if she wanted to go out. She never disappeared again, but she died last year. She was about 19 years old.

The two cats I have now don't go out. One doesn't seem interested one bit in the outside world, the other likes to sit on my desk and look out the window. She has ventured outside a few times, but only if I'm out there with her.

Is anyone else getting the feeling that there was something more to this than taking Dotcom down? If they really wanted the guy in jail, they would have been very careful to do everything by the book and not give the guy a loophole to escape, but instead they do everything wrong so the guy walks.

With the way they took him in and seized the site and its data so fast, I wonder if there was something in that data they wanted more than seeing Dotcom in jail.

I played BL1 exclusively coop with two friends from start to finish. We explored every inch of each map, and did every side quest.

I've been playing BL2 solo since release. I was worried I wouldn't like it solo because I thought the coop was what really made the first one enjoyable, but I'm having a blast in BL2 solo. I played a hunter in BL1, so in BL2 I decided to go with the assassin. At first I didn't like him, but I think it makes a great solo characters to play. His hologram/invisibility skill comes in handy when you get in trouble and need to retreat to get your shields up or heal. His skill's and ability doesn't seem to have much to contribute to coop though, other than one skill that gives you bonus damage to an enemy attacking another player.

One of my BL1 friends did get it and we started playing a new game tonight. His connection is crap at his new place, but it seemed to play fine. I chose the siren for our coop game, and I think it too would make a good solo character as well. Her ability and several skills also come in handy for coop as well as solo. One of the first ones you can get is health from killing a phaselocked enemy.

My friend is playing as the soldier and the turret gun is much nicer than the one in BL1. It seems to stay out longer and do better at targeting and killing. I believe he can unlock some skills that upgrade the turret to do ammo/health regen while deployed which cane come in handy for coop and solo.

I was lucky to find a class mod that gives a small health regen for my assassin. I've had my shields knocked out and health down near death several times, and dropping my hologram I was able to get to cover, let my shields recharge and get back in the battle.

Yeah I guess that mission really depends on your weapons and combos, I guess my weapon combos so far just plain suck! I've had 2 shotguns and a sniper. Do not have anything that does corrosive so I went with explosive shotguns since the robots are immune to fire.

By the time I finish off those robots the builder shits out there's a whole new army of them built up again, I never get a chance to even start shooting the constructor robot. The reloads on the shotguns also suck rocks. They do a lot of damage but take forever to reload, and with all those flying repair drones and the suicide robots that mission is a bit overwhelming for me.

Like I said I guess I just haven't figured out the right weapon combos yet to nail those dang robots.

I just did that mission today, I didn't find it that hard. I'm carrying three sniper rifles, one that does fire, one that does electrical and a regular one. The regular sniper rifle has higher damage than the elemental ones and seemed to work best against the robots. I knew from preview videos that the robots were weak to corrosive, but I figured shock would work as well, but the regular (non elemental) sniper rifle worked the best against them. I can one-shot kill most of the robots by hitting the red eye.

When I got to the constructor robot, I just shot it's eye for crits, ignoring the robots it spawns until it spawns the suicidal ones. Then I dispatched those and continued to pop that weak spot. I had to stop and deal with the little robots three times before I was able to knock out the big boss one.

I found the assault rifles to be somewhat disappointing, as well. It's cool that they made a bunch of unique types and all, but there are no GOOD, REGULAR assault rifles that I have seen. Only Torgues that shoot rockets or lob grenades, or semi-auto Jakobs's, mini-gun-like Vladofs or Bandits that are slow to spin up and/or shoot 3 bullets at once while being horribly inaccurate... I guess they wanted to really differentiate them from SMGs, but that doesn't mean I have to like it!

Assault rifles sucked in the first BL. As I said earlier, I played a hunter in BL1, and I used sniper rifles, SMG's and shotguns. As an assassin in BL2 I'm using sniper rifles, pistols and shotguns this time. I haven't found a decent SMG yet. I have a pistol I found somewhere around level 8 that I'm still using at level 15. I accidentally used one of my damn golden keys at level 10 to open the chest in New Haven. I stopped playing when I got there, and when I spawned I saw the chest and just by habit ran over and opened it not realizing it was the one that took the key. I wish they'd have given you a prompt to confirm you want to open it because I got a couple of crap pistols. One had explosive damage and the other fire damage. They both have the same base damage, but the fire pistol's accuracy was crap. The explosive pistols bullets are so slow it's only good at medium to close range. The level 8 pistol I got I think was a random drop and didn't realize I picked it up until I was selling crap. I decided to give it a try before selling it and I'm glad I did. It does electrical elemental damage, and it's accurate, has a scope, high fire rate and decent size magazine. Even though it's a little over half the base damage of the ones from the golden chest, it seems to be more effective.

So far as the siren in coop I've used sniper rifles, assault rifles and pistols. Again, every SMG I've come across is crap. I didn't plan on using assault rifles, I just happened to find one that did decent damage with a good accuracy, fire rate and large magazine.

Are you incapable of doing that? I didn't even bother with the installer anyway. It's not really even an installer, it is basically a self-extractor for .7z file. I just manually extracted the .7z to the sourcemods dir anyway.

I quit reading his rant after the iPhoto part. I've never owned a Mac, but I have used other peoples (when they come to me for help). iPhoto may really suck, but his real problem is relying on it to organize his photos. He should have taken the time to organize the photos himself and only use iPhoto to view/edit them.

I am a bit of a photography geek, and I just checked and I have over 15,000 pictures that I've taken over the years. I use the free IrfanView as my main photo viewer because the one that comes with Windows sucks, and I use three different programs to edit photos. I can find any specific photo in seconds, without using any of the programs because I organize them myself by putting them in named directories and sub directories.

I already have Rochard, Shattered and SPAZ. I got them all during various Steam sales. I enjoyed Rochard. It wasn't very hard, and the puzzles were quite easy, but I want to play through again and find the two hidden places I missed. Shattered is a good time waster game if you just need to kill some time and don't want to get into something complicated. I really like SPAZ. It's the kind of game you think you're just going to play a bit of, then you just can't stop.

The only game on there I have interest in is Vessel. I was hoping to get it during a Steam sale. I think it came up as a flash sale during the Summer sale. I guess I might as well toss in $5 for the bundle just for Vessel since that's probably what it would go on sale for anyway.

25 years for my dad. His Birthday was Sept 9th, Anniversary the 11th, and a died on the 8th and his Funeral on the 14th. Whoever decided it was a good idea to have a open casket really needs to think twice. *shudders*

I guess it depends on where you're from because open casket funerals are pretty much the norm here. I remember as a kid being dragged to funerals. All of them were open casket and it didn't effect me, but I hated going because people were all crying and depressed. Then I think my grandfather was the first one that was closed casket and it was totally different. It was more like a family reunion than the funerals I remembered. People were standing around talking about good memories and generally happy.

My father died when I was 17. When he was sick, he made it clear to us that his funeral be closed casket. His mother though wanted an open casket. We compromised and had an open casket right before the funeral started for close family only then the casket was closed. She still wasn't happy about that and pretty much hated us for it and didn't talk to us until the day she was knocking on death's door.

When I check out, I don't want a funeral. I don't see the point in building expensive metal fucking coffins that are just going to be buried, and then burying me in the ground where I'll take up space forever. Cremate my dead ass, then take the money saved on a funeral and have a memorial party instead.

Here is how ya get the pre-order stuff

Start the Game
Go to Extra's
Click on Shift
Sign-up for Shift
check email for confirmation
restart game
viola every character you have made or will make gets the golden key.

That has nothing to do with the pre-order stuff. Lots of people are confusing that with the pre-order bonuses. You don't have to sign up with the Shift thing to get your pre-order bonuses. If your pre-order bonus is working, you should start with three gold weapons, the vault hunter's relic, and you also get a key. Once mine finally loaded I started with a sniper rifle, SMG and assault rifle. They're decent starter weapons, but it's not long before you find better stuff.

If you sign up with Shift you get another key. The keys unlock the gold chests at that town (can't think of the name right now). The loot inside is leveled to your character, so I'm saving mine until I'm at a higher level.

It apparently isn't broken for everyone. I've been on the Steam and Gearbox forums, seems some people have it and some don't. Mine shows it purchased and not downloaded, but I can't make it download. A friend of mine says he's getting a message that he has content available for download, but it won't start the download.

Edit: I haven't decided what I'm going to play yet. I played the Hunter in BL1 and like him. I might just create one of each and try them out. The soldier seems the be pretty much the same as his BL1 counterpart with the turret ability, but the others have totally different abilities than their BL1 counterparts.

Edit 2: Tried loading it up again and now it tells me "Unable to enumerate the downloadable content offerings. Please try again later."

that could be said about anything, but in this case i do agree

i would have liked to see those guys re-invest the extra moneys into legit artists/programmers/etc for a more complete package... but that would require integrity, and frankly, man - seems like nobody has got it

they probly just pocketed the extra and patted themselves on the back for being "worthy"

who knows tho... maybe there will be a constant stream of awesome and free DLC .. yes i am a dreamer

After playing for an hour, I have to agree. I wish I'd waited on this one. I don't see this game having a lasting potential as is. There is so much they could have done to expand the game. I watched several YouTube videos and reviews and it looked like fun, so I gave in and bought it this morning. It is but if you've watched some game play videos, you've seen all it has to offer.
