What's MMUE, jim?

Mission Mojave - Ultimate Edition It's a bug fix mod. There's another bug fix mod out there, but it's essentially a compilation of other individual bug fix patches merged into one. MMUE goes farther and fixes the bugs themselves rather than just compiling a bunch of smaller fixes into one.

EDIT - On that note, are there any must-have mods for New Vegas? The Brazil one looks amazing but I have tried it yet.

I don't like using overhaul type mods until I've played the game at least once. I generally play the first time completely vanilla, then a 2nd time modded a bit before I go all out with the crazy overhauls. I've played it once vanilla and once with DLC and a few light mods. IMO, the DLC make the game too easy with the level cap increase and perks you get from completing the DLC quests.

I suggest using MMUE to squish bugs, and then add some immersion mods and texture replacements. I would also install some UI mods like oHUD with DARNUI. After playing with those it makes me want to puke seeing screen shots and videos of the stock UI.

For me it was little mods that made the game more enjoyable, especially if you're playing it in hardcore mode. There was one that would let you use a pilot light and flamer fuel to use ovens as a camp fire for cooking/crafting. I think it was called simply called Oven Cooking.

Another one I used was called Manual Reload. It requires NVSE, and does what the name implies. No longer will you automatically reload when the last shot is fired, you either manually hit the reload key or switch weapons. Sometimes it's faster to switch to a second weapon than reload which is one reason I like it. The other is that it makes the game remember how much ammo is in each weapon, so if you're down to just a few shots left (or empty) and switch to another weapon, when you re-equip the first weapon it isn't magically reloaded anymore.

I plan to play again with JSawyer's mod. I'm going to keep it simple though, just use the MMUE bug fix along with UI and texture mods. I want to keep to the original game as much as possible, but make it more challenging.

I can't imagine having a phone that can't go all day on a charge. I have just a plain old phone that makes calls and does on occasional text, and I get 3-4 days out of a charge. It used to last longer, but it's getting old.

Yes it includes the sound track. I have everything in this bundle already except Organ Trail, but I went in for $5 to get the Android versions.

I was just thinking the other day that I should play some Frozen Synapse again. It's a lot of fun, except there are some d-bags that will quit a game when they realize they can't win. The devs kept saying they were going make it so that if a player doesn't take a turn they'll automatically forfeit the game, but last time I played (about a year ago) it wasn't working. I had three games in a row end like that, where I had the opponent in a no-win situation, so they just quit.

Steam is a pretty close comparison to what Microsoft is trying to do with DRM on Xflop. It's all about DRM tying the game to specific hardware and having online activation required. They just went a little further without any lube.

I don't support Steam or the Xflop, both are too far offside of consumer rights that I'm not interested in either.

Microsoft is going to be nothing like Steam. I buy games from Steam knowing that I can't sell or trade them. The rate game prices fall on Steam defeats used sales anyway. If you buy a game at release for full price, then several months later it can be bought 50-75% off, who'd want to buy a used copy? I can't remember the last time I paid full retail price for a game anyway, even new games.

I can also put Steam on any computer and play my games. The only restriction is that only one can be online at a time, but I can put the others in offline mode and they don't need to phone home to let me play.

If you don't like Steam there are alternatives to Steam that sell games DRM free (Amazon, GamersGate, GOG, Desura, etc.) Even Steam sells DRM free games, they just don't advertise it. It's up to the developer/publisher if they want to implement Steam's DRM. There are several games in my Steam library that I can run without the Steam client by running the game's .exe directly. You can backup the game directory, copy it to another computer, etc. and run it stand alone without Steam.

Xbox One Games At E3 Were Running On Windows 7 With Nvidia GTX Cards

Ok... that's just fricken lame.

I'll say one good thing about the Xbox One, it's been giving me some damn fine entertainment these past few days.

I wonder if the XBOne games running natively on Windows 7 or through some kind of emulation. If they can run natively, that's good news for PC ports, but it also makes me wonder if crackers can just get a XBOne disk and crack it straight to PC.

The car analogy is also so flawed it's painful. A car is something extremely expensive that most people cannot afford new. At all. It's also not really a luxury in this day and age.

Most importantly, its value drops. There's good reason to want a new car versus a used one. Less risk, it's cleaner, it will run better, etc. A used game? It's identical to a new game. Zero flaws based upon it being used. It simply does not degrade. Cars do.

Your post was nearly a meltdown and it is pretty far off base.

His comparison to a car isn't completely off base. Console games are a physical product produced in a limited quantity. You should be able to sell/trade/give/loan them. With the Xbox and 360, if you want to buy or play an older game, the only option for games that are out of print is a used copy. I get that MS is trying to be like Steam with the Xbox One by having physical copies register to your account giving you a digital version for "life." Digital copies can't and shouldn't be transferable because they can be sold in infinite quantities. But what happens when the Xbox Two comes out? Unless it will have backward compatibility and access to this vast digital library of old games, then the old Xbox One games just die when the it reaches the end of its life. Do you think MS is going to lower prices on older games or have sales like Steam?

What I don't get is why Microsoft is forcing this DRM on publishers whether they want it or not. If MS is going to charge a fee for used copies, where is that money going?

I saw something this morning about someone in the Navy tweeting MS asking how they could use the Xbox One when they are at sea for 6 months out of the year without internet. I forgot where that was, because I wander how MS will reply to that. Probably tell them to get a 360.

Quinn wrote on Jun 12, 2013, 18:10:

I understand that's a bummer for many, but to me.. replaying a game ends up with either making the exact same choices or making different choices and feeling horribly uncomfortable in doing so.

I put myself in the protagonist. Changing the decisions I'd normally make for the sake of replayability just... rubs me the wrong way.

But what you don't seem to understand is that those decisions you made, weren't actually decisions at all. ie: Would you like orange Juice, Coke, Milk, or Water? You choose Milk. I hand you Coke in a Milk bottle. Your choice meant nothing when the end result is always the same.

I would have preferred to see those choices mean something. So if I saved that guy and let the kid die, how does the story change? How does that kids father treat me throughout the story? How does the guy I saved impact the story if he lived?

In the end, the Walking Dead game was so good because of the story and the acting, not because of the gameplay.

So, why provide the questions to the player when the answers mean nothing? It's a false sense of choice. The developers should just let the point and click adventure play out as they want it to, rather than trying to trick the player into a sense of false gameplay.

It was like an interactive movie for me. The end will always be the same, though with some small minor differences. Your choices don't rewrite the entire story, but they do rewrite certain scenes in the middle.

I'm someone that re-plays games like Fallout three or more times to role play as different characters to see how different things turn out. But trying to do this in TWD for me was like Quinn said, doing things different just to see how they play out didn't feel right for me in this game. There were instances in my first game where I made a choice, then later said to myself "I shouldn't have done that," but when I get to that part of the game again, I want to do the same thing over again. I've never had a game tug on my emotions like that before.

I've always wondered how re-playing it effects the stats that it compares you to at the end, so when I started to re-play it, I did it offline. I didn't finish re-playing it. Instead I looked up some let's play videos on YouTube. I didn't watch the whole things, I just looked for specific places where other people made different decisions to see how it changed the game, and it did have an effect in places during the story.

=========
Spoiler Alert
=========
For example, choosing who to save on the tractor in the first episode. It doesn't matter who you chose to save, the kid always survives, but later in the episode and other episodes the kids father acts different, says different things and changes some dialog if you didn't try to help his kid.

Can't f'in wait for this game. Uplay does kinda suck, but it's still better than Origin!

I don't see how Uplay is better than Origin. Origin at least started as an online store, it was formerly the EA Store. Uplay started as a DRM service. They turned it into a store after people began to hate Ubi for it. Yet for some odd reason people now accept Uplay and still hate Origin.

Prez wrote on Jun 11, 2013, 02:18:
Yeah, Uplay is pretty shit, but but least Uplay allows an offline option, and Ubisoft still sells games on Steam.

That seems to be the most common complaint I hear about Origin, but Origin also has an offline mode, and EA games can still be bought on 3rd party sites. The whining about some games being Origin exclusive doesn't make any since to me either because how is that any different than titles that are Steam exclusive? You can't buy Origin games on Steam, but you also can't buy Steam games on Origin.

So has the Battlefield series become CODized? Basically a $60/year subscription, not including the four $20 expansions throughout the year or another $50 season pass or whatever the fuck they're calling them now. I think I'll stick with Battlefield 3, and wait for BF4 to be $10 next year. I like Battlefield 3, but I don't get to play MP much. I don't know when Origin began tracking game time like Steam does, but it says I only have 8 hours in BF3. I know that's not right because I played it for about 8 hours straight the first day.

I don't understand the appeal of these guides. A couple of my friends bought Skyrim at release, as did I, but one of them bought the guide. He plays the game with the guide open on the desk, reads ahead in the guide the goes and plays it in the game. Why bother? He could have saved his money and just watched let's play videos on YouTube.

I'm sure everything in this guide is already available for free on the various game Wikis out there. I've consulted a Wiki for some things before, like looking up what I needed to make an item, but nothing spoilery.

Again, depends on the jurisdiction.

In fact, this has been done before elsewhere. It was found that a password wasn't incriminating because there was already evidence. Applying that logic to this, since they already know there is porn on some hard drives then making the guy decrypt the rest isn't fifth amendment protected.

Personally, I don't agree.

If they already have evidence then why do they need a password? If the police have evidence against you for a crime, any good lawyer would tell you to STFU and not give them any more to hang you with.

@jimnms: Right, so compelling him to open decrypt the drive violates his Miranda rights? That seems in direct violation of the fifth amendment, to my (admittedly amateur) ears.

I'm not a lawyer (I just play one on the internet), but the right to remain silent part of the Miranda rights is referring to the 5th amendment.

I'm just recalling from memory what I read in the previous article. It wasn't a supreme court ruling, but they ruled that the suspect couldn't be forced to provide a decryption key because it would violate his 5th amendment rights. I don't remember the exact wording they used, but the prosecution was arguing it as a lock and key type deal, i.e. they had a warrant to search a safe (encrypted HD) and wanted the suspect to hand over the key (password). The judges ruled that he couldn't be forced to hand over the password because it was information he would have to recall from his memory and therefore it was different than a physical key to open a safe.
