Sound catagory Doom3 wins because of it's full support for 5.1 and 6.1 sound. HL2 does not. Therefor it wins :p From the Half-Life 2 / Source Mod FAQ:
http://collective.valve-erc.com/index.php?faq=source_mod_faq
What is the sound system like?
Half-Life 2 supports 5.1, 4.1, and 2 speaker systems. Half-Life 2 supports wave files with 8/16bit, mono/stereo, optional ADPCM compression, and arbitrary sampling rates up to 44.1KHz, and MP3 files as well. We support our own DSP in software. We're working with creative on supporting EAX for that as well.
In fact the Audio tab in the HL2 options menu mentions the Miles Sound System (and nin is correct in that there are options for 5.1 and 7.1 surround) and information for MSS can be found here:
http://www.radgametools.com/mssds.htm
Please do more research next time. Thanks!

I'd really like to see a mod team or someone that has actually built stuff using both engines give a TECHNICAL comparison. This article is pure junk.
In Doom3 I've actually shot a zombie in the head and hit a wall behind it and slump to it's butt, that kind of event simply isn't possible in HL2. Um, you might want to play some HL2DM or Counter-Strike: Source and then restate that. Or better yet, pick up Gary's Mod and play around with the ragdolls a bit.
http://www.garry.tv/garrysmodforum/
As to normal mapping, the technique was developed by Id software, so it's a wonder that theres is the best around. You might want to play Far Cry, too. The game that came out well before Doom3.

had a blast w/ you guys 2-nite , some of the new maps are a little laggy tho ( noticed a decrease in ping on the official map )....gasworks ! , that bought back some memories of 1999 (seems like forever ago ) ...i'd like to see a Ravenholm map ( graveyard ect,,,) Hope I was doing most of the blasting... It was nice not being called a a1mb0t f4g0t c4mp3r wh0r3. I agree that was fun. I love the maps with booby traps or places where you can jump down/sneak up on the unsuspecting. Most of the maps were good except for the docks one (too small, and the shelter had too much junk in the way). Hope to see the rest of you online soon.

The server is on the west coast(PST), WarPig. I ping around 180-200 from EST and it's not terrible. On DSL, playing from Buffalo, New York, and I'm getting about the same pings. Still managed to kill a few people, so it was all good.

It's a bad sign when you need an eating helmet. Maybe he's on one of those "crash" diets! : :-rimshot-: :
Joe said to me once, when he just started hooking up with Marie, that “this can only end badly”. He doesn’t have time for a Camaro right now. Good lick bidding. Okay, the ad with the fish driving the Camaro was cool, but this auction is just damn depressing. Joe, you are a stupid, stupid man. You lost your wife, mistress, car, and broke your twig and giggle berries due to your cheating heart. May your next ride be a Yugo, since you certainly don't deserve a Camaro.

Found this page with MPG ratings (only goes back to '85)
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/best/bestworstEPAtrucksNF.shtml
Another good page:
http://www.cbo.gov/showdoc.cfm?index=3991&sequence=2
Remember the '80s? When economy cars began appearing on the scene? Actually the VW Beetle (1939), Chrysler Valiant (1960), Ford Falcon (1960) and Chevy Corvair (1960) started the 'economy' ball rolling. These were built in response to the demand for a smaller and cheaper car since a recession hit the country in the late 50's. Then in the 70's you had the Chevette, Maverick, Pinto, Mustang II, etc. But since then the MPG standards haven't been a serious issue for the big car companies.
(I know a bit of car history since for my job I sell antique Ford parts)
You know, maybe I'm a sick individual but in a way I'm just hoping for some kind of global ecological disaster/episode. Because that is what it's going to take to break people out of the stupor they've been living in for the past 25 years. Sad, but true. It always has to take a tragedy for anything to change.

Had I known back in the early 90's what EA would turn into, I would have never bought Wasteland, FA/18 Interceptor, Madden Football, Project Firestart, Deluxe Paint, and other various and sundry EA games for my Commodore computers.
I alone probably accounted for .00453% of EA's profits in 1993. Now it's with my money that they are gobbling up and spitting out gaming companies like a bulimic Pac-Man.
I am so ashamed of myself.

And if it was real I guess I've got to give the guy credit for finishing; although running away sobbing couldn't have been that much worse, at least it would've shortened the experience. He should have just did uh... a hoe-down and blamed it on the drummer. And uh... the... uh... acid reflux. Yeah.

WTF! An actual CAMARO discussion, and I missed it!
FYI the Camaro stopped production in 2002 (35th anniversary). Which means, eventually my car will be worth some money! Knowing my luck we will run out of oil before that happens. As for the back seat, my passengers have told me it's none too comfortable.
Now for a bit of trivia:
The car was introduced to the press as the Camaro, considered to be a good name because nobody knew what it meant. Chevrolet produced an old French dictionary showing that the word meant "friend" or "companion", but Ford found an alternate meaning in an old Spanish dictionary - "a small, shrimp-like creature. "The automotive press had a good laugh over that, and an even bigger one when one journalist found yet another meaning - "loose bowels." It didn't take long for the laughter to stop after the introduction of the stunning 1967 Camaro!

Allow me to speak directly to the bad guys for a moment: When you get banned, know that we know and have records showing you were doing something that’s a violation of terms of service, breaks your EULA, and also happens to be against the law. We know who you are, and can track down where you play from. We have incontrovertible proof you did something illegal. The Army is angry, and we’re coming for you. WE KNOW YOU HAVE WMD's IN YOUR HOUSE AND WE WILL FIND THEM!

You Americans have too many straight lines in your country, ergo I only got 74 %. If you look at a map of Europe, you can see a rather large cock on the map, a pigs head, a boot, a St Bernard and various other amusing shapes, which all act as good memory prompts when you are colouring in countries in a geography class. So you don't think Florida resembles a big one-eyed trouser snake that's giving a golden shower to Cuba...?

I don't know if I can deal with this. I've been a goop spreader my whole life..... Here's some food for thought: would you rather have 100% of the heatsink's contact area pulling heat from the processor, or 75% of the area? If you spread the goop over the whole surface of the heat spreader, filling in those "microscopic pits and valleys" (according to Arctic Silver's website), it will help transfer more heat to the HSF. After all, the purpose of the heat spreader is to spread the heat!
But don't take it from me - here's some advice from some other folks...
Heat sinks operate by conducting heat from the processor to the heat sink and then radiating it to the air. The better the transfer of heat between the two surfaces (the CPU and the heat sink metal) the better the cooling. http://www.pcguide.com/ref/cpu/char/coolCompound-c.html
You should apply a very thin (paper thin) layer on the heatsink with your finger before installing it. Don't use too much - the thinner the layer, the better. But make sure that the entire contact area between CPU and heatsink is covered; otherwise hot-spots can form. http://www.heatsink-guide.com/compound.htm
And besides, what would it really hurt to spread it?
Don't listen to that other guy. We may never know how many processors he has burned up due to his inferior methods!
My name is Camaro76, and I approve this message.
