Yes because suppressing our most primal instincts instead of allowing them release in controlled conditions is such a great idea. A fist fight ain't the end a the fucking world.

The only thing that stuck out was the scene in Littlefinger's brothel where the new whore was having a tryout. Completely pointless, and it wasn't even in the book.

Most of the sex was in the first book or two, anyways. From there on out it's all severed heads and limbs and whatnot.

Not a fan of Matrix or V for Vendetta?

Speed Racer is one of the worst pieces of trash ever to plague my television set.

Oh and this kind of stuff, like the slow fall of tobacco, isn't going to happen overnight. You can't flip a switch and suddenly everyone is on the path to good clean living. The best thing you can do is educate and condition kids and hope it sticks. This was just on CNBC:

U.S. soda consumption fell in 2012 for the eighth-straight year, this time by 1.2 percent to levels not seen since the Clinton administration, according to new beverage statistics.

Then again those putrescent "energy drinks" saw another meteoric gain.

Sure, junk food taxes just make sense too. Why should my tax dollars support every fatso and smoker out there? I'm ok with taxation in general but when people consciously make poor choices they should pay the burden. Unfortunately you're going to have a lot more trouble getting traction on restricting food than smoking. Maybe on a state level or something, I just don't see it happening federally.

Now you are getting socioeconomic. Shitty food is just plain cheaper than healthy food, the outcome of decades of subsidization of specific foodstuffs (cough, corn, cough).

It has been my experience that all new appliances are designed explicitly to break in short order. Either that or there are scores of incredibly incompetent engineers in the workforce.

Untrue. The ludicrous circumstances I provided have come close to happening. There have been cases where someone had sex with an underage girl found in a 21+ bar where the guy who had sex with her saw her ID.

Some states have provisions to protect statutory rapists who were defrauded by fake ID. It's going to fall on the jury to determine whether the defendant had reasonable proof to believe the partner was of age. It isn't strict liability everywhere. Criminal law always has the question of culpable mental state. You mentioned traffic violations... how can one possibly argue they had no idea they were speeding? There are speed limits statewide for when roads have no posted limits, and equipment (speedometer) failure falls squarely as the driver's responsibility.

And for the record, Ohio's consent is 16. I know people say there are 13-year-olds who look 18, but I've never personally seen that.

The federal government quite famously (briefly) regulated toilet seats a few decades ago.

Laws are not enacted/enforced to protect people from themselves. The only recent one I can come up with is that stupid-ass sugar ban in NYC.

Possession of child porn, for one. Have sex with a 14 year old?

You have to knowingly possess child porn. I can't go hide a picture of a naked kid in your wallet and have you arrested. And having sex with an underage is negligence. If under the (ludicrous) circumstances provided you were being charged, in all likelihood the grand jury would toss it.

Plus, laws don't necessarily care what your intention was

They absolutely do. Criminal laws establish the culpable mental state of the offender as an element of the crime (negligently, recklessly, knowingly, purposefully).

It's kind of hard to recklessly or negligently aim green lasers at an airplane and then a police helicopter. The little shit got exactly what he deserved.

U.S.C. TITLE 18, CHAPTER 2

Sec. 39A. Aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft
(a) OFFENSE -- Whoever knowingly aims the beam of a laser pointer at an aircraft in the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States, or at the flight path of such an aircraft, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both.

Bingo bango. Not knowing something is illegal? Not a defense.

Graphics are a luxury. These people don't likely don't have the time, skills, manpower or (most importantly) money to go out and make a game on CryEngine3. "Indie Games" usually don't represent an established designer's 50th commercial product.

And in this specific case... it's a tongue-in-cheek computer game about pen-and-paper role playing games. Pen. And paper. This game looks fun.

Without actually reading the article, I'm a little excited for the PS4 because I think it's good news for PC gaming for a few reasons. We'll see.

I'm a little excited because maybe I'll get to play Last Guardian now! Huzzah!

I wouldn't say that Bioshock had a good storyline so much as it had a good setting.

It was at a minimum 10x better than the competition. It was reasonably smart, it was well written, it had good pace, and the conclusion was pretty satisfying.

The gunplay is much better than the first game, you face a lot more enemies and its better paced.

I hope so because the lack of enemy variety was the big thing holding BioShock back. It's funny because that leaked .pdf on steam had concept art from all these crazy-looking mutant enemies and NOT ONE of them ended up in the game.
