- Loot drops so far have been terrifyingly underwhelming. I started off really nice, found some awesome stuff (including a purple at level 7!) The last eight levels or so, I've found exactly JACK SHIT except for one handgun which I'm solely using to kill Crystalisks. Every other weapon I'm using, I got from Moxxi's. I'm killing bosses, green drops. Killing side mission bosses, green drops. Killing badasses three levels higher than me, white drops. Open a spectacular looking chest, green shit. Actually I'm lvl 11 now and already have ~5 blues and a purple. The shops could definitely use an upgrade (seriously, 99% whites?) but I guess that kind of reinforces the "it's more fun to find loot than buy it" principle (except good loot chests seem to be WAAAYYY rarer this time around).
And can we please stop saying "melee"? This is a shooter. Its main selling point is the bazillion guns. It takes a special kind of sad to go around meleeing enemies in Borderlands.
Anyways Biscuit released a second, far more critical perspective:

Like him, I'm flying solo and not missing anything. I probably played BL1 80% solo as well. |

I'm not really sure why people feel that passive skills are somehow less significant than active skills anyway.
Because they are. Having an ability which affects the way a game is played is not remotely comparable to having something which changes a one to a two in a .sav file.
The only people who give a fuck about shit like that are min/maxers. |

Yeah, I generally agree with his comments, but on this particular video, I felt pretty much the opposite. How is he wrong? He complains about how there's a skill that adds 5% to gun damage, one that adds +1 to grenade count. This is the fucking definition of boring, uninspired "character development". If they are going to call the game an RPG (which they did, remember this is supposed to be the lovechild of the FPS and the RPG, in their own words) then they should be able to come up with something better than that.
Still, Borderlands was the same shit and it still managed to thoroughly entertain. Just wish Gearbox would have the sense or willingness to take things further. The whole FPS Diablo thing is like my holy gaming grail. |

| All right, TotalBiscuit confirmed my fears for BL2. One boring skill per class and pointless passive bonuses. But even after all that I still played the hell out of BL, so $43 seems fine... |

| I expect full and comprehensive user reports as to the merits and faults of Borderlands 2 within the coming days. All you preordering guinea pigs are needed to sway such a conservative consumer as myself. |

The added injector makes the AA picture perfect and the one line mod to an .ini to remove cell shading is very nice (preference). Really, now... is it so difficult to put these things in games? I enjoy digging through .inis and .cfgs to subtly alter the nuances of engines. I don't enjoy having to inject my shit to change basic settings. |

It's a question of viewing style and a lot of patience. At the library, within walking distance, I check-out an entire season once it comes out on DVD. My grandmother wanted to get the original Tinker Tailor (with Alec Guinness) from her library. She was #70 on the waiting list. |

The problem is the whole point and click 'Diablo style' is fairly old and boring now. No, actually, it isn't. It's a fucking genre, it doesn't get old. You said 'fucking'. You are so smart and cool. Can we be friends? Sure, let's go play some Diablo together. |

| Yeah but in Diablo every sorceress isn't the same as every other sorceress. The lack of distinguishing traits between various players (or between the classes themselves, what with each having all of one skill) is something in dire need of remedy. |

I can see the capping internet = capping information = limiting speech argument. But then again they don't just shut down your internets after you hit xxGB, they just charge you more. Which begs the question, why are we forced to go through monopolized telecom companies to access the internet? There was a move here in NC for allowing municipalities to form their own internet access and guess what, the state legislature actually passed a law making it harder to do just that. Various states have outright bans on municipal telecom networks, and even more have some sort of restrictions on them.
Hey why don't we sell Time Warner our roads so we can pay twice as much to drive on them while they cut the speed limits in half. |

I had a decent collection of really good GCN games, but I think the biggest stand-out was Metroid Prime. That game, and even the sequel, made Halo look like the biggest piece of shit ever. They flawlessly brought Metroid into 3D but when they do it to Castlevania we get a God of War knockoff. |

The N64 was shit. The Virtual Boy was better than that thing. And yet it still had Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Winback, Ocarina/Majora, Smash Bros, Turok 2, Paper Mario, Jet Force Gemini, Starfox, Body Harvest (I fucking loved that so much), Mario Kart/Diddy... certainly had more games worth owning than Wii does. And probably GCN, for that matter. |

The one thing worth pointing out between the various platforms is how cool Borderlands 2 can look if you have an awesome PC. Somehow I doubt this is remotely true. |
