The only question is, will Kevin Spacey be playing Call of Duty in S3 of House of Cards, and will he encounter VIRTUAL KEVIN SPACEY?!?

So it's basically like Crysis, except for the huge levels and the free-form gameplay.

So Crysis 2?

I've already grilled ~5 times this season. Burgers, lots of chicken breast, some ribs, a few steaks.

I can firmly deny chicken breasts needing brined before grilling. Pound it to 1/2-3/4 inch, oil/season, don't overcook, and rest it a bit. I've made fantabulous chicken tacos this way.

Oculus Rift, that thing that existed long before Carmack joined the company?

Good luck with that.

Anyone else watch Penny Dreadful? Showtime went and plastered it all over the internet ahead of airing. It was... OK. Definitely doesn't look to be making up for the loss of Dexter, but at least the macabre Victorian setting is fresh enough for TV.

Not seeing any occult goings on in any of these trailers. Giant mechs, sure, but dark magic and Wolfenstein go hand in hand.

That depends on your definition of a "nice" weapon. And the cyclops drops the ring regardless of when you kill it.

First play through I would peg my deaths at around... 50-75. Deaths without regaining souls = 1. I spent a lot of time as a phantom getting a feel for bosses before I took them on myself.

Big soldier guys? Head to the forest. The mobs there are way easier. Unless you mean the pigs in the town.

The big ogre hippo thing... it was worth it though I had less trouble with the asylum demon lol

You are absolutely positively not supposed to be fighting those the first time through things betwixt.

What do people see in these games?

They are utterly unique in the sea of indistinguishable, monotonous garbage that has become mainstream video gaming?

Dark Souls was kick-you-in-the-dick difficult. In parts. Most of it, though, was instead sensibly challenging and thusly rewarding. DSII has very little dick kicking.

IIRC it didn't have key rebinding. Or it wouldn't work with my gamepad.

All I remember is it had some such total debilitation.

I don't know about anyone else, but this game runs a lot better than the first one on my mid-range laptop, and I think it looks significantly better.

Having played either on the PS3, I found DS2 looked significantly worse overall. The jaw-dropping vistas and world design are almost completely gone.

In my imaginary gaming journalism utopia, game reviews use a Pass/Fail indication at the top of the page followed by a short(ish) but concise review that lacks spoilers. The more enthusiastic the reviewer is about a strength or weakness, the more descriptive they must be about why. This is the digital age so if the review is based online examples of "poor sound" or "poor graphics" should be available to sample. (screenshots, sounds files, etc. Paired with opposite comparisons for context of course). Also, the only thing in the headline for said review is the title of the game. No quirky word plays, puns, etc.

That's my fantasy. In reality, I basically do the same thing Beamer described below.

I think Ars does a "should you play it? yes/no." I like that.

Kotaku does that but we're not allowed to mention them here... Redface

The two biggest "wtf highscores" from CGW in my memory are Doom 3 and Black & White. It wasn't them being disingenuous, though; their reviewers were just as caught up in hype as everyone else. Hype they themselves fostered, but still.

Every time a console tried for extensibility, it failed. The N64 Expansion Pack was a flop, the N64 Disk Drive never made it out of Japan, the Sega CD had only a 10% adoption rate, the 360 HDDVD drive an utter disaster.

You know what people do when they want to upgrade their games console? They get a newer console.
