I played Far Cry almost the entire weekend and I was constantly taken in by the gameplay and grahics. Now Painkiller has gone Gold.
What must be going through the minds of Id and Valve at the moment?
I think it's not so much the fear that these games are taking sales away from them. It's that the 'wow' factor for D3 and HL2 are reduced in the light of games like Far Cry. Maybe the wow factor isn't superseded by it, but certainly it has reduced their lead. Some of the shine we saw in last years HL2 and D3 movies 'aint so special any more. Will the annals of gaming history for 2004 remember it as the year of Far Cry, for the innovations it made, rather than that of HL2? Might just happen.
When the dust settles we'll find out. But it's going to be a tough fight to be the 'iconic' game for this generation of engines, a prize they all covet.

I've been waiting to get Farcry until Best Buy drops it by a tenner, and now I see this. Which one to get? Any opinions? (And yes, I can only afford to get one of them right now).
If neither's demo gave you a clear preference, I'd opt for far cry... I'm a graphics whore at heart...
...but I'd be thinking about Painkillers stake gun.
Fortunately Creston I can delude myself more easily that I can afford buying all these games!

Looking forward to this one.
I played the leaked single/multiplayer demo and it's pretty much vanilla deathmatch. There are a few other deathmatch gametypes that were not featured in the demo I did not play, but to be honest there is nothing there to seperate it from the crowd.
The single player on the other hand was a ruck of fun.

The poster of the spoiler starts by questioning the authenticity of the source...
I can't vouch for www.supershadow.com, but this plot summary they posted reads like really bad fan-fiction -- which means it is almost certainly the authentic work of Lucas.

At first I thought that Copter Flying Stunt was just a clever cgi effect, but nope - that bloke has soom keen skills all right. Wonder how many written off mini choppers
he has in the garage though?
It always amazes me seeing some of the wrecks people crawl out of.

Just wondering, maybe someone/no one knows...
I was reading the Far Cry Q&A just and wondered why do non English speaking companies (like pixelrage.ro) in non English speaking countries have English Domain names? I've seen loads of German sites like this as well, domain name in English, content 100 % German, and find it odd.
Is it a business thing, English being the preferred universal language, like 90 % of scientific journals are written in English I wonder?
Just curious...

Well, the game was (obviously) out on store shelves yesterday (Wednesday.) Saturday is when all the "lesser" stores like Walmart/CompUSA/ToysRUs/Whatever else should have it in stock.
So Ray, you're saying Pandora Tomorrow's Tomorrow Tomorrow release date was in fact Pandora Tommorow Yesterday?

Interesting... I think a flyable bomber would be pretty cool, actually. It would have to be (relatively) slow, and have big-time health, but yeah.
Well they left it in for the mod makers. They said it was not fun. Perhaps it was a little indescriminate or you were too distanced from the action.

AS i type this FAR CRY is installing on my System It's a 5 CD install.. When will game companys get the hint many people have DVD drives in there computers?
Dude, in the UK at least (and rest of Europe I think) you can only buy it on dvd. It was the reason I finally got my lazy ass in gear and bought a DVD drive. Plus I didn't want the 6 CD UT2004 edition. 6 CD's! I feel like a DJ after a while I think the winds changing on the whole issue and DVD will become standard very shortly.

Sounds like CZ isn't much good from their forums, I'm not defending that as even the 'rabid fanboys' seem to think it's a POS over there. I'm amused at the derogatory attitude towards the players of CS that they are kidz, as though people who play UT2004 or BFV are something better or more mature. I've witnessed the same ammount of childishness in CS with the biggest gaming crowd as I have in Savage, with one of the smallest. If one game I play draws more brats than another, I've yet to spot it. (and if I could, I would stop playing it).

This shouldn't be news to anyone but CS IS a good game.
Amen. This game snobbery is most amusing. I share my free time with it as much as the next game. It's a little dated now but I get more fun out of it than some newer games I could mention. Biggest does not mean best, millions of people eat at McDonalds but you wouldn't say that's because their food is better than everyone elses. CS is the McDonalds of fps, it serves up something that you know that you're instantly familiar with, no mess, no fuss, and isn't expensive either (as in you do not need a killer rig to play it).
When I'm hacked off with laggy servers on BFV or no one is playing Savage, or I've exhausted myself on UT, CS can still be fun.

That show is great! I bought series 1 on DVD because I missed it on BBCA when it was first shown.
I can't wait for series 3 to start. I'm dying to find out what David's going to do.
Erm, sorry to say, but after series two there are two 'specially extended shows', then it finishes forever. Ricky Gervais wanted to go out on a high note.
Our TV series are generally short over here. None of this 22 episodes a series business. Seems silly really.
Do many people like The Office btw? Is it a genuine hit over there in America or mostly unheard of?

The demo level, game start, everyone runs for the manta, and then whoever gets it blasts off, leaving everyone else to run to the nodes.
When i get it i press it to the ground, and people shoot at me and ask me why im not moving!
I always do that, and never see anyone else doing it. I guess altruism is hard to come by.

I really hope they managed to turn Breed around, but the cynicism and tearing to shreads of the demo seemed pretty much universal - with criticisms that won't go away with a couple of patches either. If they had released it before March and the glut of fps, they could have struck some sales from fps starved gamers but it's effectively blotted out of the radar right now.
A shame.
