I was born and raised in California. I have traveled around the world, including many parts of the USA. I've experienced severe climates, especially in Northern Europe and the US East through the Mid-West. I moved back for one reason -- I seriously hated the climates in other locations. I call them climatic prisons. I may move to Hawaii someday, but the South Bay fits my needs for now. I encourage anyone to consider living in California or Hawaii for a year. You will experience the freedom to be outside all year round. I believe you'll never want to return anywhere else. Think it's expensive? Not at all. Your habits and lifestyle will completely change from spending too much on TV and video games to going outside to free parks, beaches, forests, and other outdoor locations.

As a dope that gave them money, I have to say that the no dogfighting module as promised is crap. Seriously, the excuse boiled down to:
"You gave us a ton of money, and we don't know how to handle all this. Our current stuff is an embarrassing mess. Here's a hangar module update where you can sorta go pew-pew at some popup targets by mounting a wacked out robot dog. Well, assuming you can make the crap holotable interface work."
In Star Citizen, even the hangar module elevators are laughing at you.

I'm puzzled why anyone would choose live anywhere else rather than California or Hawaii.

I'm at a loss here. This just blows my mind. How can he call this milestone "allowing the team and I to go beyond the BARE MINIMUM".
They've gotten almost 20 times more money than they originally asked for. Should they have not been able to go beyond the 'bare minimum' like... oh... last year?
And yeah, that Elite: Dangerous alpha video is the bees knees.
This on the other hand just sounds more and more like a situation where you're collecting tools to make 'something' eventually - once all the tools have been purchased. Rather than buying the tools as you need them in order to construct the next piece of the plan.
Do not speak if you don't have a clue ... ..
They asked for 2 millions so they can prove to their investors that people were interested in that game!!!
If they got the money, they would give them the rest 22 millions in private funds to make it !!!
But since they do not need them any more , They are True AAA Public funded game...
So they DONT have to worry for the Investors pushing them to get it out, so they can make a quick fat profit

I've seen the dogfight video and to be honest Elite looks more impressive to me. Obviously it is further along the development then SC is, but also has 1/10th of the money SC gained to make a game.

One question though. Where the hell is all this money coming from?
Wait, I ... they're ... no. What? Why ... is ... what??!
Haha, I read that as people are spending $5000 actual dollars on virtual space ships in a game at least 14 months away from release (and 24 months would be optimistic IMHO). Heh, imagine if that is actually happening in real.
Ha!

Bitmap skins for $2 each for BL2 are pure profit. A fool and his money.....
Not to mention that they can't even be seen in SP unless you walk up to a machine to change them...

Can you silence the Amber alerts but not the weather alerts? That's what I would do in that situation if possible. Considering the amount of time I am either in my house or at work and my general habit of truly ignoring random people, Amber alerts would be wasted on me, but weather...

I'm posting info from roberts own stuff. Like in I linked in the last blues thread info about the subscriptions. Some people posting there weren't even aware that they existed.
During the campaign we had many, many backers say that they wanted to support the game on an ongoing basis to make a better game, and a better experience for the community. A lot of people said they would love a subscription, as while they couldn't back Star Citizen during the initial campaign for a larger amount they would be happy to give $10 or $20 a month during development towards the cause. This kind of enthusiasm and willingness to help bowled us over and like we've tried to throughout the campaign we wanted to respond to the community's wishes. An additional source of funds during development was attractive as it would allow us to hire more people to create even more content for the game, as well as serve the community on an ongoing basis. We asked everyone what they would want in return for giving an extra amount every month and the response was they didn't need something special or extra in game as they though that would be unfair, but would like to get some extra behind the scenes information or development information that perhaps wouldn't normally be available if we didn't have the extra re-occurring revenue.
That's why we created the Centurion and Imperator subscriptions, and why we focused on benefits that were about more detailed information and extra access that we would not normally be able to provide. The funds from the subscription has allowed us to hire people to specifically curate and deliver content to the community.

My recommendations for Joysticks or HOTAS setups are the following:
Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog (this is one of the most durable joysticks on the market)
Saitek PRO Flight X-65F HOTAS (Personally I've had bad luck with Saitek, some of their joystick batches aren't manufactured properly with calibration issues)
Going cheap on joysticks might get you by for a little while, but most of the cheap ones will break or have calibration issues eventually. Get something that lasts with a good warranty or RMA policy.
4) NO Pay2Win - You should never be able to buy anything with real money that you can't buy in with in game credits. Once fully live SC in-game items will only be purchasable with in-game credits. There will even be some items you can ONLY earn by playing / flying missions. All you will be able to spend money on that is gameplay related would be buying some in-game credits as you don't want or don't have enough time to earn the credits you need for your contemplated purchase. We'll cap purchase of in-game credits to avoid someone unbalancing the game / economy. Finally as I point out above skill will always play a factor - there will be no "magic spaceship of death" that will sweep all before it, so while you may have bought a more expensive spaceship / weapon a better pilot can still beat you (this is where people with lots of time get an advantage as they'll have spent a lot more time honing their combat skills!)

Freaking crazy. 200 Idris Corvettes, each costing $1250, sold out in matter of minutes!
Not that I can't afford that, but that's an insane waste of money. Next they'll get some pitchmen from the infomercials going.
And who claimed this wasn't pay-to-win in another thread?

Does anyone have any experience using a 21:9 ratio monitor like this one for gaming? PCGamer was down on it, but some Amazon reviews I read said it was awesome.

An XBox controller has like 14 buttons on it if you count the 4 on the D-pad. And 2 analog sticks. That should be more than enough buttons for like most of your regular in-flight stuff. Heck how many flightsticks have more?
As I am sure you are aware, the major difference between a handheld thumb operated controller and a flight stick is much more than the number of buttons.
The unflattering dextrous observation of "He's all thumbs" has a very real analogue in space-sim input devices. The controller, being thumb driven and requiring finger-on-the-trigger button placement leaves the virtual pilot with no options and, loss of functionality.
Pitch, roll, yaw, rudder control, thrust. If you don't have all of these things simultaneously available, you're not flying.
Some people don't want to deal with all those axes, so they simplify with a controller. I'm confident that SC will handle flight sticks perfectly as CR has demonstrated before, controllers? Dunno.

Some people need to grow up; using a gamepad on the PC is nothing new and nothing bad.
Says you. I play PC games, and I'm sick of the endless number of ridiculously easy, arcadey, dumbed-down, potential-unrealized, SHIT console ports with shallow gameplay and limited controls tailored to the least common denominator of a motherfucking gamepad, yet filled with all the things that make console players jizz, like cool graphics, WDIDN arrows, aim-assistance, and waste-high crates. I think a developer specifically promoting his new game as a PC game, and who attempts to tick the nostalgia and "Halo-was-an-XBox-exclusive" latent rage boxes of 40-somethings who long for the old days of deep PC sims by playing up some "not-a-console-game" narrative ("They said console was the future ... I am a PC game"), and then uses an Xbox controller in the dev video, is a TWAT.
You may not agree.
I truly hope this is a great PC game, and not just a game you can play on your PC. I'll definitely buy it if the letsplays and reviews make me happy. I hope it's not just a $20million, extremely pretty, socially-oriented Descent.

Pretty awesome-looking, and I was very happy to see it is a PC game, and that they are using that fact to promote it. Then I got to 5:25 of the video...
Fuck you, Chris Roberts.
You don't like details in games? Or more likely, the 3rd-person/ship follow-cam? There's a first-person view also from the cockpit. Looks like he was showing that to demonstrate the thrusters.
I am pretty sure the hypocrisy he spoke of was the xbox controller Mr. Roberts was holding. Nothing ever said "FUCK YOU PC GAMERS!" more than the hot key chart on the back of the Rage manual that showed an xbox controller and not a keyboard.
