According to Stardock and Impulse store page, this game won't have any DRM whatsoever.

I think it's gotten a lot worse. At least 10~20 years ago, with those floppy drive checks, manual checks, or spinning wheel thingys, you could play the game you pay for indefinitely provided that you took good care of your game and your computer. Now, that's no longer the case. The games come with expiration dates now.

6. Gamers shall have the right to expect that games won't install hidden drivers or other potentially harmful software without their express consent

So games may install drivers and potentially harmful software with consent? That doesn't sound very inviting.
I don't expect big companies like EA to sign up for this, especially when they have to worry about shareholders barking at their necks for more DRM, but I can see small publishers going for it. If only for a bit of extra publicity.

I thought that Portal alone is worth the price tag of the entire orange box.

What was your first clue? The price tag?
ironically, yes. i didn't bother with the whole press release when i was hoping for a campaign. Still, it's not like it's never been done before at that price point.

i hope they add a single-player campaign with a story... (like Balance of Power did for XvT) that would make this amazing game even better.

the serial number is on the box, not on the documentation, so you're in luck!

the PS3 version accesses the hardware directly so no graphics API is used there

LOL
I don't mean to insult or anything but that really made me laugh.

I agree with your sentiment, but I get the feeling that you have no idea what GalCiv games are about.

Not a great game, but not a bad one either. Worth the money in my opinion

News Comments > On Linux Game Piracy
36. No subject Jun 25, 2008, 03:45 Boston

I've met a hell of a lot more people pirating console games than PC games. Even so, I wouldn't be so presumptuous as to conclude that piracy hurts console games a lot more than pc games. Anecdotal evidences count for nothing.

Anyway, sales has always been much worse on PC than on consoles for decades. We've been seeing established pc developers moving onto consoles for bigger share of the pie, and budding developers starting their career on pc (because it's open and easy to develop for) and making a name for themselves. Nothing's been changed.

News Comments > On Linux Game Piracy
22. No subject Jun 25, 2008, 00:31 Boston

Piracy is a serious issue, but it's no more rampant than it was before and it will not be downfall of pc gaming. Those who claim otherwise are probably too young to remember how bad piracy was 20 years ago.

Developers and publishers are quick to blame piracy on their commercial failures because other explanations make them seem like incompetent fools.

yeah but digital download version of Sins of a Solar Empire is the collector's edition with extra stuff. Even though they're in PDF form and kind of sucky. Plus there's consolation in the fact that all of profit goes to the people who deserve it.

CGW/GFW was pretty much the only print magazine about PC games that was actually well-written and worth reading. It's a sad day for PC gamers everywhere.

Bioshock was a different situation. The developers, before the release, clearly stated that widescreen users will "see more" but failed to deliver.
What we ended up with is "shortscreen" not "widescreen."
