Way to not address the lighting/shadows concerns.

To be fair, you'd have to pay for subscription only if you wanted multiplayer achievements. which I suspect most if not all PC gamers could do without.

11. Re: nc Jan 12, 2007, 09:26 Boston

It depends how you look at it. The fact that current model of game marketing doesn't work with online distribution might shift the focus of gaming from run of the mill FPS, RTS, and MMOs that publishers think might be a safe investment, to something more simpler, smaller and more riskier. Vast majority of development fund is put into content creation anyway, so it's not so far fetched to imagine that episodic games might recoup its development cost even if it becomes a failure after a couple episodes.

But all this is just daydreaming of an independent game developer. As long as the retail monster is still around, it's unlikely episodic gaming will take off.

I hope online episodic distribution becomes the dominant form of game distribution - but strictly from a developer's point of view. It's such an appeal to bypass the retail chains completely. Telltale seems to be doing decently with its Bone and Sam & Max games, so who knows. There may be a future in it after all..

Although it could be worth the price if it was capable of compiling and running c++ applications ( with bluetooth enabled keyboard, of course).
It could be be a real nice developer's toy.

I hope the parental controls are off by default. Hopefully most parents won't activate it and shareware games developers will be in the clear.

I doubt that LucasArts will ever respond, but here's hoping that the other publishers will take note.

News Comments > Deus Ex: Invisible War Demo
310. terrible demo Nov 25, 2003, 00:41 Boston

No headshots, no leaning, unified ammo, vastly underused physics, bad AI, bad performance, terrible interface, etc... Ion Storm is losing a lot of potential customers because of this demo. They never should've released it.

I haven't read the whole thread, but there seem to be people who defend Ion Storm's decision to do away with different types of ammunitions and reloading. I can't understand that. It's lazy and stupid design decision that's easier for the programmers and level designers, and takes away immersion and strategic elements from the player's end. You'll never see other game developers follow DX2's example because it's plain stupid.

I think it's pretty much official. They said it on the December issue, and the editors at CGW said it again on the CGW forums.
The DVD will include more games than just Deus Ex and Thief 2, but I don't know which ones.

I would've been a lot happier with the way this problem is resolved, had it been the consumers shouting out "We won't download the demo" rather than the webzines threatening Activision "We won't host the demo"

I hate exclusive demos because I refuse to pay for things I should be getting for free.
yet I can't blame FilePlanet for doing whatever it can to keep the subscribers happy and not lose their business...

News Comments > More NVIDIA vs. Futuremark
46. Obviously... May 24, 2003, 04:29 Boston

the performance boost came with the release of Nvidia's new drivers, not from an update from Futuremark, and the drivers achieved the boost by decreasing precision (at the sacrifice of image quality), culling away unwanted polygons, and skipping major instructions (like clearing backbuffer). I've seen the screenshots too.
That's cheating any way you slice it, and Nvidia is 100% guilty of it.

So this is the game I didn't buy because I was afraid I might like it and waste nearly six months of my life like I did with Alpha Centauri.
I wonder if I should get the demo.
