Well, there was a big difference in how many Quake engine licenses were sold versus how many Doom 3 engine licenses were sold.

News Comments > Duke Nukem Forever Demo
56. Re: Duke Nukem Forever Demo Jun 3, 2011, 17:40 Wookiestick

Man....
I really wanted this to be awesome.
Instead it was, at best, mediocre with a couple of style over substance moments.
Level of interaction was above average, but nothing to write home about.
The graphics are slighly dated, but I can forgive it. I knew before this came out it wasn't going to be cutting edge.
The pigs cops were fast moving but kind of bland. Duke one liners kind of made up for it.
The cave vermin were just small, annoying, and uninspiring. I hate to draw comparisons but it was kind of like robot frogs from Daikatana. Luckily they were only a small part of a small demo.
Weapons are ok. Monster squishing with shrink ray was just missing something solid about it. Lack of crunch and lack of gratification. Shotgun, sniper rifle, ripper machine gun are pretty much pulled from Duke3d-- totally late 90s FPS feel.
Design is oddly early 2000s shooter style with a few modern implements such as the Halo/CoD style ego health. I know some people are hating on this but honestly I don't wanna waste gameplay time hunting down health packs. 2 weapons at a time seemed kinda silly given the game's retro design but I can dig it.
At the end of the demo I really felt a pang of "that's it?". There were moments early on in the demo where I felt some nostaglia but the second half my interest totally dipped.
I am hoping the full game offers a broader design from the small fork sized bite I just ate. Maybe these were just the peas, and the meat is to come. I hope.

I was a little underwhelmed for the first 5 minutes, but once I saw that it has RPG aspects like monster levels and statistical modifiers I decided I want this game.
I am spoiled by fast paced undead shooters like Left 4 Dead, but I see a lot of perks sitting through the whole video.

I'm probably a minority on a dedicated gaming site, but personally an extra 12 hours +/- isn't going to kill me for a game whose single player portion from most indications is 3.5-4 hours.

If you bought those indie games, good for you.
To those that are complaining AND bought it... no one put a gun to your head.

Fake. Not even going to waste my breath going into why I think it is. It's just a bunch of vague details that anyone could scotch tape together.
Moving on.

Gfwl sucks. Back before I knew better I bought Resident Evil 5 for PC on when it was on sale for like 12 bucks. Their copy protection is an absolute cluster f***. I would have been better off to wait and get it on Steam.

Speaking as someone who did retail for 10 years, the Best Buy employee charged with theft is a very common occurrence. We would have people steal credit card numbers, steal expensive laptops, people abusing "rewards points" (I think 1 year we had 3 people in my store alone fired for this) for customers buying products and scanning it under their own personal card. And very commonly it was in the thousands of dollars.

News Comments > No XP Battlefield 3?
66. Re: No XP Battlefield 3? Jan 2, 2011, 22:53 Wookiestick

Welcome to 2011, gamers.
Your Pentium 4 with 512 MB of RAM riding that pimping Geforce FX that can play Doom 3 on high detail will not cut it.
For anyone that cries about it, go buy an xbox and play Halo Reach.
Yes, Windows Vista and 7 take more RAM than XP. But RAM is exponentially bigger now too-- more RAM for the dollar.
Looking at the bulk of the comments most people here are indifferent or embrace it.

Xbox cat agrees.

Bought X-men Arcade, thank god it has drop in drop out multiplayer. I like it, though I think 800 MS points is a tad expensive-- 600 might be better. And plus there's this.

I liked this game when it was vanilla. I can totally appreciate Valve adding so much to TF2 when most other developers would have moved on to other cash cows, but all the unlockables and weird customizations turned me off to this game. I guess if you're a hardcore gamer that might be your cup of tea, but not me.

WoW is only up to its 3rd expansion in 6 years. Everquest has had 17 expansions over a period of 10 years.
Blizzard is more about quality over quantity. Even if you hate blizzard games, I can say after having played the first 5 or 6 expansions for EQ, and then having played Blizzard's expansions it's not hard to figure out which one has way more polish.

However I really doubt Diablo 3 will ship in April. I'd be surprised if it was even out by late summer.

News Comments > Hexen: Edge of Chaos Released
14. Not what i expected, but i like it Nov 14, 2010, 17:17 Wookiestick

I started playing this expecting a complete level by level remake of Hexen in Doom 3. What I got was a Hexen flavored TC with Hexen inspired maps but not the old school Hexen maps updated for Doom 3. Still was really retro and fun to play this.
