News Comments > Ubisoft's Anti-Piracy Plans
38. Re: Ubisoft's Anti-Piracy Plans Jul 28, 2009, 14:04 dubfanatic

Why arent there many innovative games from smaller publishers (PC only) BECAUSE THE BUSINESS MODEL CAN'T SUPPORT IT ANYMORE!

Wrong. The reason is that development costs have skyrocketed as our technology has advanced. The days of the two-man team in a garage churning out a fun game in a month ended with GPUs, multiplayer, and fancy GUIs. If the business model couldn't support it then we wouldn't have games like Braid and World of Goo, nor would we have developers like Stardock and Paradox.

No demo = small customer base

I'm tempted to try it, but i'd hate to waste the forty bucks and discover 10 minutes into it that it blows or just doesn't work.

Same... see above. I'd pirate it and try it on GameRanger but the games I bought during the Paradox sale are keeping me busy enough.

Playing poker online here in Washington is legally equivalent to torturing an animal. We have such clowns in Olympia it's not even funny. Screw this state, I'm moving to Colorado.

ETA: Oh they are lobbying DC... oh well my rant still stands.

I used to play EU1/2 but the AI troop ping-pong in EU3 drives me insane. I'm thinking about picking up Victoria and/or Crusader Kings because they seem more focused on nation-building than warfare. Anything I should know about these games before I buy?

Firefox 3 is such a pig, it makes me want to slash its throat and roast it with an apple in its mouth. Google Chrome is faster and more secure. The only thing Chrome lacks is a stable Linux version, but I only care about that when I'm on the road with my netbook (like right now). Even if 3.5 is faster I'm sticking with Chrome on my main machine.

Go to the UK and its ~35% chronically depressed rate among its populace and tell us again how happy they are.

The UK may be physiographically located in Europe but sociologically the UK may as well be a different planet. It is the more like the United States than any other European country (even when you account for the common language).

Turn based games will never be done. Some people just don't like real time strategy games.

I think these people don't understand that the Bill of Rights doesn't cover corporate actions. They think Burger King can't just throw a clause in the contract giving BK the final say on what goes up on those signs. If the sign said something vulgar or racist it would be taken down right away, but BK don't want to be seen as "taking sides" (as if there are two legitimate sides to be taken). The global warming denier spin machine is weakened but it's still a powerful force.

News Comments > German Violent Game Ban?
13. Re: German Violent Game Ban? Jun 6, 2009, 18:34 dubfanatic

OOC, does anyone know why Germany is like this? They're like the opposite of the US: okay with sex, nudity, prostitution, but against violence.

The culture of the USA was strongly influenced by the Puritans, who were so crazy even the Dutch kicked them out. This is where American prudishness comes from. I don't have a full grasp of German history, but I'd suspect their aversion from violence comes from being the main aggressor in two world wars and losing both times.

Beautiful area. Seattle rocks!

Bellevue is the Orange County of Seattle. The only difference is the palm trees are a lot smaller.

You don't know this. You are only speculating. And have since been proven wrong by Caveman.

Caveman didn't "prove me wrong". I'm not wrong until they actually do it, which I admit is likely. I shouldn't have used the word "fact", "indication" would have been a better word. But, my earlier point still stands. This game has been out for several months and there are still big problems with matchmaking. This announcement was poorly timed.

Then you didn't read clearly, and Caveman as already proved you wrong on this too.

Caveman didn't even address this point. Who isn't reading clearly now? I'd be impressed with your idiocy but you've already demonstrated it to me.

Yeah, I've been seeing a lot of people trashing the forum, or more specifically, the people on this forum lately. That's kind of weird. I mean, if you so clearly dislike the forum and the people here, why would you continue to participate in it?

Because they are just trolls, and I was foolish to even reply to them in the first place. I'm going to make sure it never happens again.

First...dubfanatic, try and keep up. Caveman posted about the IGN videos early in the thread. He didn't link to it, but any retard can type www.ign.com...but you've proved that wrong...good on ya.

Generally it's common courtesy to cite any articles or videos being discussed. I shouldn't have to wade through that piece of shit site just because this jackass was too lazy to Ctrl-C Ctrl-V. I'm on some forums where you can get banned for doing that sort of thing repeatedly.

Even then, what's wrong with someone not liking a game based on its demo?

LOL, yeah, isn't that the point of a demo? Some fanboys will find any excuse...

You and Caveman both seem to share disdain for this forum. You can both do us all a favor and leave if you really don't like it.

God damn this forum is fucking stupid. Directly from the article.

Oh yeah I'm so stupid for not being able to find an article that wasn't linked here, nor in the RPS article which is now basically inaccessible from all the people going there.

Get over yourself.

Perhaps by reading the posts by at least two separate people saying something like "LOL SO GLAD I NEVER BOUGHT THE ORIGINAL" and "LOL YEAH I TRIED THE DEMO AND GOT BORED SO GLAD I NEVER BOUGHT IT LOL".

You take a sample of two people and extrapolate it over the whole population. You should be a sociologist.

Wrong, read the IGN article, all the improvements to matchmaking in L4D2 are going to Left 4 Dead 1. They might even port all the campaigns and characters over to L4D2 so it's basically an expansion.

What IGN article? I don't see any IGN article. How about you get off your lazy duff and link the article here, if it's not a figment of your delusional mind.

"Lrn2internet" HAHAHA SO FUNNY.
