I agree completely. MMO shooters done properly could be amazing. Unfortunately the only difference between Planetside and non MMO shooters is the potential for huge battles.
They completely ignored any strategic element, such as resources to fight over or a proper command structure to give the whole thing purpose. At the moment it just feels like a sport. You log on to your crappy empty sanctuary and then proceed to fight over identical looking bases for no good reason then log off. When you log back on nothing you’ve done has made any difference.
You should be able to build outposts research new technology etc. A round based game such as Natural Selection has more depth then this crap Sony has produced. Maybe current technology just isn’t up to creative an exciting enough MMO shooter world yet.

OK I take it back I’m going to reinstall, those maps look very well done. Betrayal, TechDream, Ougaldwin and Hathor have a lovely UT feel about them.
And RE No 5 “Too bad they didn't make the bonus pack for the original UT which is 10x more fun then the UT2K3 POS”
I can’t believe nobody’s made a UT classic mod for UT2003 yet:(

The handling in Porsche unleashed meant at least some skill was needed. Also NFS HP2 was completely unmodable. The best you could do was to re-skin the maps. Probably so they could release an expansion but the game sucked too much for them to bother.
Why not include more options so arcade handling, and damage modelling can toggled on and off.

Those developers have a clue so wouldn’t go for an exclusive with Wankplanet.
Nothing against paying for guaranteed bandwidth and no queues (apart from when I subscribed for a month I still got shitty download speeds), but exclusive betas and demos do nothing but piss off the potential fan base and insure less people get to play them.

I hope people and vehicles still shatter when they take a good beating, and don’t just flop around excessively. Also that crappy jetpack smoke doesn’t look as good as the smoke trails from mortars and vehicles in Tribes 2. Player limit needs increasing to 64 from 32. IS Unreal netcode not up to it?
Oh well it’s early days I’m sure they can still give us something Über by the end of next year.

In PCZONE UK they had an interview with Carmack where they talked about the only innovation in the game being the graphics.
Carmack said he didn’t understand why other developers insisted on continually trying to innovate gameplay. He used the analogy of a basket ball game, where the game play stays the same and the levels you play in are gradually improved to look more realistic.
So this game really will play like an old skool corridor shooter even if it looks next gen.
Innovation in gameplay beats shinny graphics any day so I’ll give this a miss I think.

It probably just means the European release will come ready patched to version 1.1. Well worth the wait:( Twats.
