News Comments > Counter-Strike: CZ on Steam
19. Re: No subject Mar 23, 2004, 11:54 Mr Gar

I'd just like to point out that a game was released over steam with no hitches in service, no downtime, and no bugs.

Hardly anybody bought it?

With the exception of UT2004, it's the same old stuff. Graphics and gameplay are only marginally improved over last year's games

With the inclusion, you meant to say surely?

Actually it does, by keeping those asspeppers out of other potentially good games

I never thought of that. May CS live on for a very long time.

As long I get to repeatedly beat rats with magic sticks using one click autoresolve combat I’m in.

Why won't someone develop a proper (not shit like Planetside) MMO FPS game. The demand must be huge.

43. Fix it please. Mar 16, 2004, 05:02 Mr Gar

The infantry controls/movement in Battlefield games does feel really spongy and unresponsive. I don’t know how they’ve managed it. Having large levels with lots of vehicles shouldn’t mean the controls can’t feel as tight as a game based on the Quake or Unreal engine.

I just wish they’d hired some coder who could have nailed this down for them. This is my only real complainant about the franchise but it’s a really serious one

I tried that out once. Really well done with loads of atmosphere and refreshingly different from everything else about. Couldn't ever find any servers for it though

Soldner looks cool to me, as long as the engine is flexible and easy to mod I’m sure skins, textures, reticules, weapon damage and other things people worry about can be changed.

10. Re: 180 Mar 10, 2004, 12:01 Mr Gar

Online publishing is definitely the future and Valve will have a head start with its Steam system. I don't know why they have so much trouble releasing patches without the whole thing falling apart though.

Maybe that Bittorrent guy they hired can help out as long as they let you throttle your upload and allow you to opt out it should help ease congestion, and people who enable uploading should get priority downloading content.

25. Re: At least the UT team produces Mar 9, 2004, 04:17 Mr Gar

From what I have read, even Epic has made the UT2K3 code from basically scratch

That might explain why UT03 was utter bollocks, where as I'm still playing UT99 4 years after I bought it.

19. DF2 Mar 6, 2004, 06:19 Mr Gar

Hopefully J-Ops fills the void created after DF 2.

DF2 was mind blowingly cool in its day. The amount of time I spend playing it on LANs hiding in that grass. I hope I get into the Joint Ops Beta to make sure they don't fuck it up.

7. Re: Gothic II Mar 5, 2004, 07:17 Mr Gar

I’d probably like the game, it reminds me of the original Privateer in so many ways but the interface on the demo was truly awful. What were they thinking with the impenetrable text menus, beta testers must have complained about it.

Fun as UT2004 is I really hope the modding community takes off this time. Considering the potential of the UT2003 engine fuck all of any quality came of it.

It looked and felt like UT with updated graphics

It didn’t feel like UT, not nearly enough gibbage, too much crappy rag doll flopping/scooting about.

Still fun though.

They say with 50+ vehicles they haven’t had time, and I don’t know about you but In BF1942 or Flashpoint I always drive in third person anyway. There's still a nosecam view though.
