if doom3 is xbox exclusive, I won't play/buy DoomIII
Same as with Halo.
I am sure there are many others that think the same way,
I bet HALO would have been much bigger if it weren't xbox only.
I hope id is not going for the bait, and ms is not able to buy everything on this planet to get their dirty hands on.
If doomiii is xbox only, I guess I won't be scared to death each night, and have bad dreams, but will rather wait for some "less dark" games using the same technology later.
A decent company tries to be the leader by making a great product and competing with others.
MS tries to buy great products and make it available through MS only.
Why don't they try to make a really good game for xbox, or why don't they just buy id to make sure doom3 is also available on xbox, but not exclusively?
Simply because XBOX is not that successful, so they try to FORCE people into it by having doom3 exclusively on xbox.
Generally, I feel ms does not compete fairly and with product quality, but always tries to create monopolies so that people are forced to use their stuff whether its good or bad.
Which other companies have such available funds and such agressive Marketing?
The big mistake(?) of MS marketing is to underestimate "image" "reputation" "symphathy"
I bet if there would be more MS fans out there, the XBOX would have been more successful.
But like that you can see salesmen giving advice to customers: "yeah xbox has the better graphics, but look over here.. there is the PS2...blah blah blah"
(I witnessed that..., if I were a salesperson being not very fond of MS, then I would do the same thing)
The success of PS2 over xbox is in my opinion because:
- sony has a much better image than ms
- sony actually made a product (PS2) not just a cheap PC in a black box
- you can see that by looking at the controller: dualshock vs. xbox controller ? no question which one is better, nicer, took more development...
- japanese are famous for design and making good, maybe simple, games.
if MS succeeds in taking over cell phones, consoles, destroying linux...., ... I wonder whether I still want to own a private computer.
Maybe I'll have to collect mushrooms in the forest...
