The government is a giant clusterfuck of morons and assholes who only know how to make bad decisions, one after another, so it only makes sense that they would continue the trend by switching to Linux. Well done, governement... why don't you just bring back asbestos ceiling tiles and slavery while you're at it?

Looks like EA wants to make damn sure they clinch the "Worst Company in America" award again this year. As far as I'm concerned, this was the winning vote.

I laugh though because Slightlymad Studios, who created NFS: Shift 2 Unleashed under the corporate iron umbrella of EA, has created Project CARS, with community funding, OUTSIDE of EA's slimey hands. Project CARS, even in alpha, is already poised to crush the absolute shit out of anything EA has ever produced in the past, or ever will produce in the future. Project CARS is the community's way of saying "Fuck you EA. Your filthy money and misguided, corporate buffoonery is not needed here."

Funny how people just assume that Valve's "living room strategy" is going to be a success, even though nobody has a damn clue how it's going to work out. It could be the hardware equivelent of SimCity for all we know. Just because it's not Microsoft doesn't guarantee success. BTW, to the asshole who called Microsoft "losers"... you should take a look at the history of the company (not the products) and tell me how making that kind of money and having such a profound affect on the world gets them classified as "losers". You obviously have a fucked up world view and I can't imagine what you consider a "winner". (It's obviously NOT YOU, fucktard.)

And just for the record, Gabe Newell is an asshole who lives with his head up his fat ass, believing the whole time that he's God's greatest gift to the planet. But, since Steve Jobs became the worm food that he deserves to be, I guess someone had to take over, huh?

News Comments > Metro: Last Light HUD "Fix" Inbound
27. Re: Metro: Last Light HUD May 15, 2013, 13:37 Porn-O-Matic

This is such stupid crap. Whether it makes people sick or not, while important, is not the point. The point is to give players the power to choose how they want it to look, for whatever reason. After countless FPS games being bashed for having locked FOV's, I can't BELIEVE that there are still idiot developers out there that still don't "get it".

So developers have some reasons for a narrow FOV, such as performance. Well, let the PLAYER decide if he's willing to trade performance for a wider FOV. It is NOT the developer's place to decide that for us!!!

To game devs; if your 3D engine, or your HUD, or whatever, makes adjustable FOV "difficult to implement", well, guess what, dumbasses... you need to rewrite your fucking code so that it IS easy to implement. End of story! There should never be a discussion on this. The rule should be: If you're making an FPS game, then adjustable FOV is mandatory, no questions asked. Ever. It doesn't matter what sort of gameplay you're going for, you can rest assured that players are going to want to change the FOV! They aren't going to give two shits about WHY you locked the FOV, whether it was for performance reasons, or the "look and feel" of the gameplay, or any other reason. You should KNOW THIS by now! OMFG!

"Gosh the amazing new things that nobody's ever thought of before!"

Oh, I see... make a snarky remark about Microsoft patenting something, but when Apple submits their umpteenth stupid and overly ambiguous patent, it's not a problem, is it?

This is awesome. When developers make the conscious decision to fuck thier customers in the way they did with Aliens Colonial Marines, they need to learn a lesson and take it up the ass in return. The consumer's voice shall be heard!!!

Like I said when this game was announced; no cockpit view = NO PURCHASE! Codemasters can suck my nuts, and as far as I'm concerned, this stupid design decision puts them BELOW Maxis and SimCity. No fucking bullshit.

25. Re: SimCity 2.0 Plans Mar 29, 2013, 13:23 Porn-O-Matic

I pre-ordered SimCity and I was screaming bloody murder along with the other upset fans over the server issues, but I've gotten over it (like any adult should) and I play it almost on a daily basis now.

There is already a fun game here and more efforts from the Maxis team to make improvements are welcomed. If you take away the DRM aspect, it's no more buggy than ANY and EVERY other game that has ever been released. Some people just elect to keep beating the dead horse even after it's been reduced to a puddle of dried blood and any interested parties have moved on to topics that actually have a point.

"YouTube says has 1 billion monthly active users."

Well, maybe that explains why it takes over 15 minutes to buffer a 60 second video, even on a 15 mbit connection. (No, that's not an exaggeration.)

I say FUCK Youtube.

News Comments > EA Will "Look Into" Offline SimCity; New Patch Released
66. Re: EA Will Mar 11, 2013, 13:30 Porn-O-Matic

I cannot help but wonder if all this wailing and gnashing of teeth over the always online/multiplayer woes of SimCity would have been greatly diminished if the game had always been advertised as an online experience.

I mean, look at the Ultima games. For a long time they were single-player games, then they introduced Ultima Online. Right away, you knew it was Ultima, but NOT a single-player game. No surprises, right?

What if right from the beginning, Maxis would have announced this game as "SimCity Online"? You'd know right then that it was going to be online and muliplayer centric. You might have learned later that there was an option to play in your own private region, but you'd still need to be online.

Look at World of Warcraft or Planetside 2. Both require an always-on internet connection to play. Both require that your in-game progress be saved on the server. That is EXACTLY how SimCity DRM works, but nobody bitches about WoW or PS 2.

Oh right... those are obviously MULTIPLAYER games.

Well, guess what... if we go back to whenever Maxis first made the announcement about SimCity making a comeback... what if they had said, "Hey guys, we're bringing SimCity back, as a MULTIPLAYER game"?

Those who didn't like the idea of taking a popular single-player game like SimCity and turning into a multiplayer game probably would have posted some comments about how they didn't like that idea, but then would have moved on to the next article, knowing RIGHT THEN that they wouldn't buy it. Those who liked the idea of a multiplayer SimCity would have followed it and would have ultimately been the ones who bought it, and there would have been virtually no complaints about the always-online requirements... because they KNEW, long before, that it was a multiplayer game, and we ALL know that multiplayer games NEED to be played... where, children? ONLINE.

(We're going to assume that the launch issues with not having enough servers didn't happen, just for the sake of argument here.)

The ONLY reason people are bitching about the always-online, whether they realize it or not, is because they thought all along that this was going to be a single-player game, and only because the SimCity franchise has traditionally been single-player. So now here it is, and people are like, "Wait, what? It's multiplayer???"

EA went about the whole "always on DRM" thing all wrong. Because if they had said that SimCity was going to be an MMO (sorta) or at least work LIKE an MMO, with server-side asset sharing/tracking, and people all playing cities together in regions... I guaran-fucking-tee you that we wouldn't have even a fraction of the bitching and moaning we're seeing now.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is simply a case of bad marketing. End of story. All EA would have needed to do was add the word "Online" after "SimCity" and this would have been COMPLETELY different.

Don't misunderstand... I'm a hard-core gamer from before color monitors had been invented, and I typically hate anything multiplayer, so BELIEVE ME when I say that I'm vehemently opposed to any always online DRM scheme. My rant here is NOT an attempt to excuse EA from making such a stupid decision... no no NO! BUT, I simply thought it funny how changing the marketing angle of SimCity from the start would probably have changed the entire scenario from what it is now.

Couldn't agree with you more. The day the industry makes any serious strides to move away from the single-player experience is the day I stop being a gamer. However, I don't think that will happen, and this notion being put forth by Cevat is just a radical spark of colossal ignorance. The man is obviously a renegade douchenozzle, not to mention a conceited prick.

I did not buy Crysis 3, mostly because my rig is due for a hardware upgrade that would be worthy of the sys req's in the first place, but then I read some of the reviews (both positive and negative) and decided to hold off indefinitely, or at least until a couple of patches addressed the ugly stuff. But now, hearing this chode Cevat spew his nonsense, I think I'll just scratch Crysis 3 off my list completely.

I'm a solidly grounded conservative, but not so much that I don't recognize an idiot among us. Glenn Beck is a loose cannon and a collosal idiot. If there's any "desensitizing to right and wrong" going on, it's not the fault of video games... it's the fault of parents who aren't teaching their children to know the difference. There's nothing "medical" about it.

News Comments > New Evochron Mercenary
11. Re: New Evochron Mercenary Jan 18, 2013, 19:24 Porn-O-Matic

I've been playing Evochron Mercenary for the past week or so and it's "okay", but doesn't even compete with the X3 games in terms of overal scope and visual appeal. My biggest complaints with EM is the lame handling of the economy, and the fact that there's no way to see the prices of commodities in other systems without actually going there, which means if you're a trader, that's all you do... fly around looking for the best deal.

Supposedly the color coding of the map is supposed to tell you where you can buy low and sell high, but actual prices don't reflect that logic AT ALL. I constantly see prices that are completely reversed from what the map should indicate, making it impossible to accurately judge where you'll get the best price for whatever stuff you're trying to sell.

There are also graphics stupidities in the game, like "solar panels" that have no thickness and can be flown through by all AI ships, but not your own. When I say they have no thickness, what I mean is, that it's only a 2D sprite in space... if you align your view with the edge of the solar panel, it literally disappears from your view! That's just LAZY 3D modeling.

The collision boundary around ships and objects is over 100 "feet" thick, meaning you can't glide gracefully along the hull of a huge cruiser. You can't even get what I would call "close" to it without suddendly bouncing off of it. Same goes for small ships too. Space stations don't suffer from this stupidity, but even if you ram into them at high speed, you won't take a lick of damage. I guess everything in Evochron Mercenary is made out of Nerf foam.

And finally, the AI bad guys... pirates, feuding factions, I don't know who they are... the guys that show up RED on your radar... they ONLY attack YOU! There are dozens of other ships flying around, friendlies, neutrals, but they NEVER get attacked by rogue bad guys. EVER. YOU are the sole target, no matter where you go. In X3 and even Freelancer, you would see AI battles all the time and it was cool to watch. Sometimes you'd unintentionally get caught up in it, or you could decide on your own to join in and help out. Not in Evochron Mercenary though. For some reason, you're the only one worth attacking in the entire universe. That's a game-breaker all by itself, if you ask me.

Personally, I'd rather go back and play Freelancer again because so far, Evochron Mercenary has only served to piss me off with it's poor design decisions and lackluster graphics.
