I hope the 'many worlds' interpretation of quantum mechanics is true, because then it means there is a universe in which companies like Looking Glass made it, and companies like Gearbox went bankrupt.

But you're not in that universe, so what difference does it make?

Downward trend? The only game that company has ever made that wasn't mediocre to the extreme was borderlands.

To be fair, the Brothers in Arms games were pretty good. But that was a long time ago.

Lets be clear: Most people consider Dark Souls *the game* as freaking awesome (and it is), which makes the bad port worth it for some of us.

ACM may play nice on the PC, but most people consider *the game* to be sub-par.

A controller is just another input device like a keyboard and mouse.

A console is a pre-configured box with very limited and expensive upgrade options that isn't a Mac.

Well said! Specially that last one.

Whatís offensive to me is when some junkie kid screams about needing controller support for a pc game. Yes that is offensive. You want to play with a controller go play on your console. Itís that simple. If you donít own one, then stop trying to turn your pc into one.

Wow. Thanks, sir, for telling me what I should do with my PC. I guess I'll play Falcon 4 with mouse and keyboard and see how that goes.

Sorry, but excusing a controller to play a pc game is total garbage. I did not spend a bunch of money on high end pc hardware just so I can excuse a ported game to be played on my pc. Sorry, but thatís absolutely crap and should never be tolerated. I did not buy a pc to turn it into a shitty high-end console.

I'm not the kind of PC purist that thinks that a PC game means mouse + keyboard. I'm also not the kind of PC purist that thinks that, if a game doesn't use every little electron in the high end hardware I bought, then it shouldn't even be there. I'm also not the kind of PC purist that sees game "ports" from consoles as "lesser".

Now where are all the people who were claiming the half-assed PC port was totally fine?

Those people exist?

I've been accused of being one of them (here on Bluesnews) when I said that I would be happy with the half-assed port if I could play the game at all, which is what I wanted. I don't think it was "totally fine", but it was definitely "totally playable" (with a controller, mind you), which was enough for me. I certainly expect more of Dark Souls 2, of course.

Edit: here's the original thread for reference.

Why does the release date at the end of the trailer initially flash up as 2007?

I was wondering the same thing. Had to go back to make sure my eyes weren't deceiving me.

The game takes place in 2007, so it seems to be a joke/reference. If you want to go meta, it might mean that the games mocks the present time (and game conventions) more than it does the 80's and the "alternate future" the game evokes.

Or it means "look, you're living in the future of the future!" as another meta-joke.

Feel free to pick any of those explanations, or make up your own. That's part of the fun.

The world has moved on since then and while Flashback was barely acceptable for its day, right now it - and Another World - are ancient relics best forgotten.

"Barely acceptable in its day"? It might as well be my favorite game of that generation, and easily in my top 30 games of all time. I don't know if it aged well (because I haven't played it in what, 12 years now?), but it was pretty awesome back then, and it was a commercial and critical success.

Then again, its sequel ("Fade to Black") was not nearly as good. But the box it came in was awesome.

In fact, Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes is pretty good. It's basically the game I expected Elemental to be.

BTW, if you told me one year ago that I would be writing the previous paragraph, I would laugh at your face. But the fact is - my faith in Stardock is at least partially restored after playing FE:LH, controversial CEO notwithstanding.

I'm so glad to see Kerbal Space Program in that list. It's an amazing game in its current state (and pretty stable too), and it's still an alpha, all things considered.

The real question is, how large of a golden parachute is he going to get? I would assume it'll be in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

Not only that, he gets his choice of Battlefield 3, Bejeweled 3, Dead Space 3, Mass Effect 3, Medal of Honor Warfighter, Need for Speed Most Wanted, Plants vs. Zombies or SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition.

That was fantastic timing resulting in a great joke. I salute you, Minuit.

Seppuku?

If you mean an honorable self-discharge in order to avoid greater shame, perhaps. I'm not sure if Riccitiello is personally responsible for EA's failures in recent times (after all, I'm sure they have a LOT of directors making bad calls), but EA is likely not much worried about it. They want a scapegoat, and they found one.

I don't know if this is good or bad, but at least it's some kind of change. Or perhaps not. We'll see.

So thumbs up or down on Anno 2070? Looks good, but hard to tell from screen shots. Solid sim?

Let me put it this way - it's the best city builder I've played since Zeus: Master of Olympus. I've played it for more than 50 hours by now, I'm still having tons of fun, and I haven't seen even half of the content. I strongly recommend it.

We've had this discussion before - people are OK with Steam because it doesn't really intrude or prevent you from playing and it comes with benefits that make dealing with the barely-noticeable DRM worthwhile.

Though this is generally true, sometimes Steam will actually intrude or prevent you from playing. It happened to me and to friends quite a few times. Few times, of course (it works fine the vast majority of the time), but the possibility is always there. Just saying.

If this means AC4 will be basically an expanded version of Sid Meyer's Pirates! with the excellent naval combat from AC3 (perhaps with a bit more depth), then I'm in.

Otherwise, meh.

Ok, so I bought it. And you know what? I'm having a lot of fun with it, far more than with any other recent roguelike (I'm looking at you, Dredmor). It can get quite tense when you get beyond floor 10ish. Combat is fun, and there seems to be a lot of opportunities for crafting and such (though I'm playing with a marine with very weak decipher skills, which means I got no usable recipes yet, so no crafting for me).

All in all, I'm really glad I bought it. Really fun so far.
