I just started on Starpoint Gemini 2. Man, it's been a long time since I played a space game. I was really stoked for ED too until the ODRM fiasco. And seeing as SC will probably be stuck in development hell/perpetual fundraising forever what else is there?

try this?
or
maybe?

And keep a close eye on this one. Or download this free Space Engine and explore our known universe. Or this NextGen/Old-School game.

Just to add to your excellent list, there's also Limit Theory.

Not for me, but if you are a commercial plane fan/virtual pilot, there isnt anything else.

Well, there's Prepar3d by Lockheed Martin (which is compatible with most payware for FSX, it seems), and X-Plane 10, which is already available on Steam. But yeah, that's pretty much it for "civilian" flight sims.

Despite some negative reviews, I thought Origins was excellent.

For me, Origins had moments of brilliance, but quite a few weird and clumsy design choices, along with somewhat sloppy execution. But I played it to the end, and I certainly don't regret playing it, even if I find it hard to recommend.

I loved Asylum. I really liked City. Despite its flaws, I really liked certain moments in Origins. But I'm just not feeling Arkham Knight so far. The focus on the Batmobile seems so weird to me.

Its Ciri, the white haired woman no doubt. Yennefer is also in the game, alluded to in both Witcher 1 and Witcher 2. In Witcher 1, which I beat last month, there is a tale you can be told about Ciri (also known as "cirilla"), she's an important character in the novels as well.

Cirilla is actually her proper given name, Ciri being a "short name" of sorts (like Bill is to William).

And as far as her importance goes... well, most of the fourth book (Time of Contempt) follows her, not Geralt, so you can imagine how important she is. She's a HUGE deal.

I'm seeing a lot of hate out there for the lightsaber, but I thought it was pretty cool. I especially like the effect of the light shooting out like an acetylene flame.

Oh, it looks really cool. It just doesn't make any sense, for many different reasons (possibility of harm to the wielder, no effective protection for the hand, weird positioning in an edgeless, "cut-any-direction" weightless blade, and so on and so forth). But it does look cool.

I got it and gave it a try yesterday, but I'm still very confused. The introduction is barely enough to understand the rules, but I found more tutorials in-game, so I'll go through them and try again. It seems interesting, though, and it has lots of fan-service (in locations, characters and events) for fans of the games and books.

But I'd really like a "save game" ability, since there's none. That's a major oversight.

Star Wars: Force Awakens.

1. You could put a static picture of poop to John Williams theme, and I'd still get excited.

2. There are some cool scenes there. This is definitely original trilogy tech, which is awesome. Not sure I like that soccer ball R2 unit though.

3. Doesn't give a clue about the plot. Maybe that's a good thing? I'll probably try and avoid anymore trailers until this comes out.

4. The Phantom Menace also had an awesome trailer, and we all know how that turned out.

5. Where are the lens flares?

1. Fair enough.

2. The X-Wing scene was pretty cool, but that cross-shaped lightsaber is beyond stupid.

3. While that's true, I think Disney will mostly keep the main "threads" in the extended universe. Therefore, it's probably about the reestablishment of the Jedi Order, and the resurgence of the Sith. By the way, I wonder if that girl in the USB-drive-like vehicle is Mara Jade or maybe Jaina Solo.

4. No comments. It still hurts.

5. In the Millenium Falcon "loop", there's a quite prominent lens flare for a bit. You don't think JJ Binks Abrams would forget that, right?

Is Rome 2 worth playing now? I can get it for less than US$ 10 right now on Nuuvem (though it's region locked, so people outside of Brazil can't), which makes it considerably cheaper than even the 75% off price on Steam.

So, is it good now that it got a ton of patches?

So far it's pretty meh. Controllers have to be mapped unlike ALL previous Lego games.

Sorta disappointed after how awesome Lego Marvel and Lego The Movie were.

I just played a bit and it never asked for mapping or anything. It simply recognized my wired X360 controller and worked out of the box, just like Star Wars 3 and Marvel Heroes (I skipped Lego The Movie).

I've heard it has indeed problems recognizing controllers, though, so you're definitely not the only one.

Say what you want, but anything would be better than "The Gungan Jedi Master".

Or who knows, that might be the subtitle for Episode IX. Less likely than under George Lucas, but still not too unlikely.

Squirmer wrote on Oct 26, 2014, 18:24:
Trouble with TB's blog post is that he seems to think the harassment is a result of gamers made angry by ethical breaches, and so addressing the ethics issue will stop the harassment.

That ignores the torrent of abuse Sarkeesian, for instance, has received for a long time. She received a bomb threat earlier this year, way before Gamergate started (and note that she didn't reveal it, which puts a lie to claims that she exploits controversy for free press).

This situation is way beyond some kind of justifiable outrage about ethics. It's absurd to claim that's all this is.

I would think that his view is that that kind of abuse has always been around, and that it is a reflection of people in gaming being part of an overall society that has the same issues. We all know how toxic MP gaming has been for many years, not to speak of online forums and all. We all know how many problems society has with inclusiveness and tolerance and whatnot. And he's fully aware that ending gamergate will not end that at all.

Again trying to understand his thought process, I think that he considers that addressing the ethics issue will instead force gamergate to find a new motto. It won't be able to, and it will die out. The harassers and trolls will still be around, and they'll do what they've always done, but they'll no longer have the protection of an excuse - "it's about ethics in game journalism" - nor a group or ideology to hide behind.

Now, I think he's being a bit too optimistic, but I still think it's a more noble position than declaring war and reinforcing conflict. At least he's trying to talk. It may not work, but it's worth trying when so many have given up.

You know what's funny about this, is that TB was very neutral when this all started. Right up until the anti-gg side decided to attack him for being so.

After reading it, I'd say he's still very much neutral. He's one of the very few voices asking for (and trying to establish) dialog instead of reinforcing one-sided agression and harassment from one of the sides (or both).

Have they translated more of the books? I bought two Polish to English translated Witcher novels like 8-10 years ago, that was all that was available at the time. They were great in my opinion, and definitely a different portrayal of Gerault, particularly compared to Witcher 1.

I don't know. I read the first one (The Last Wish) in English, but then it came out in Portuguese (I'm in Brazil), and I read it again (the Brazilian translation is excellent). Since then, three more books have been translated/released here: Sword of Destiny, Blood of Elves, and Time of Contempt. Reading those should be enough to appreciate most of the references, I'd say.

As far as I know, all of those have English versions available, with the exception of Sword of Destiny. But there are fan translations around that should be good enough. And I can't understand why there isn't an official English release of that book, since it's a pretty important one - it's the one that lays out many aspects of the relationship between Geralt and Yennefer.

Funny thing is that this intro has a lot less action than the ones for Witcher 1 and 2, but fans of the books will be PUMPED. Like most of the CGI trailers for Witcher 3 so far, there are LOTS of nods to the books that people who only played the games won't get. Which is one great reason to read the books.

February can't come soon enough.

Have you picked the free DLC for Rebirth? It won't be free for much longer.

And who knows, Rebirth might be a great game one day. Weirdest things have happened.

And yeah, I also pre-ordered Rebirth, and tried to convince myself it was great for 30 hours or so. I will keep trying it again every once in a while, when major patches come out, or when I have a new video card or something. I still have some small bit of hope.
