News Comments > Victor Vran Released

At least for me, this game is MUCH better than Van Helsing 1 or most other ARPGs in recent memory. It plays great with a controller, too, which is kind of what I was after. I'm really enjoying it a lot.

Has anyone made an MMO using the Cryengine yet? Any kind of MMO really, even a lame ass Bioware type MMO?

ArcheAge, it seems, though I don't know how it plays or if it's any good.

"Not long after that we will be releasing the next level of Arena Commander, allowing players with bigger ships to fly them with friends, on maps that are closer in size to the huge ones youíll have in the final game"

Uh, "maps"?

Yes, maps. They never promised a seamless "translational" experience in a virtual universe, did they?

Or how Star Citizen optimistic backers would say, "hey, don't you know the Universe is made of maps? We just haven't reached a level transition boundary yet with any of our ships. Dark matter is proof that the Universe uses quantic BSP trees on a macroscopic level"

Chris Roberts is clearly channeling Derek Smart

Not really. Derek Smart knows he has a small, niche following that's pretty loyal, and he always catered to them, not to the general market. Chris Roberts, on the other hand, seems to think he's some kind of messiah that's going to save mankind and space sims from... whatever.

STOP giving them money until they ship a substantial part of what they promised back in 2012. It really is that simple.

Glad to see you back to Blue's News, mr. Smart. I mean it.

If you were a blood sucking demon vampire of doom, would you suck the blood of the only enemy on the planet that actively hunts you and is known to use potions and poisons, and has poisonous blood which is lore known even to normal folk? Don't get me wrong, dead Bruxa is good Bruxa.. just seemed odd it would fall for THAT trick. Do these monsters not talk to teach other?

The blood of a witcher is not naturally poisonous - it only becomes poisonous when they drink that specific potion, and that is not known to normal folk at all. And while some bruxas could be aware of that, most probably aren't - and it's pretty safe to assume that the one in the video wasn't.

Now, your argument is sound anyway, so I'll just say that having the bruxa fall for that trick is more interesting in terms of what the video wanted to show - that witchers are not invulnerable invincible action heroes. No matter how strong and fast they are, the most dangerous monsters are stronger and faster, and only careful preparation, knowledge of the monsters weaknesses, and a bit of luck can result in success in the end. When witchers can't handle a fair fight, they cheat. And that's what Geralt did.

Black blood potion just destroyed that bitch!

Doesn't make any sense that an ancient intelligent beast would not know about that though. I mean if you make a living by sucking the blood of things, surely you have some RnD going on what to not suck ;p

Only witchers are able to withstand the effects of that potion, so it's unlikely that a bruxa would know of such a thing, unless that bruxa had considerable experience with witchers, which is rather unlikely, as the video proves.

Damn baby, you got ugly real fast. What was she? Some kind of vamper?

A bruxa. Geralt faces one of those in the short story "A Grain of Truth", which you'll find in the book "The Last Wish". It's a kind of vampire, but a particularly powerful and deadly one.

Bruxas are extremely dangerous, so it's a bit unfortunate that they are basically mooks in Witcher 1 (and basically wraiths with different names in Witcher 2). In this video, however, they are closer to the way the books describe them.

First complaint - why the arrow keys? Why way over there? ugh. Is there a better way? Can't use the mouse? I have to really move my hand all the way across?

I think you can rebind them to WASD if you want.

any of you guys played said beta? is it good? i am an old school rpg fan same as most of you, so what's it compare to?

I did, though not much because I didn't want to spoil my experience with the full game. What I can say is that it feels solid, very BG/ID like, combat is tactical and challenging, and there are very interesting spins on the classic archetypes for most classes. I'm VERY much looking forward to the full release next week, and what little I've seen in the beta has only made me more excited about the game.

If you want a SimCity style city builder, this is it. It's pretty close to what a modern version of SimCity 4 would be, it seems.

I doubt it will beat Anno 2070 in my book (though, to be fair, those are two very different city builders), but I think it's *very* likely that it will replace SimCity 4 for me, which should tell you all you need to know.

I did a good while ago, and it showed lots of promise. I gotta try the release version, though.

One thing I can say, though, is that the dev made a LOT of patches, many of them because of player feedback, so if anything, he's definitely worth supporting.

Anyway, I'll reinstall the game and try it again and share my impressions when I can.

It doesn't seem F2P, but a Buy-to-play model similar to Guild Wars 2, from what I've read. But I guess we'll know for sure in March.

I played the original Battlecruiser 3000 or whatever it was called back in the day. It was was allright.

I did too. It had numerous technical and design issues, but I still admire its ambition. I'd certainly like to see a game that fully realized the ideas that BC3000AD tried to implement (and mostly failed for various reasons).

I'll keep an eye on Universal Combat Advanced. I haven't tried the Universal Combat series, but I might try this one if the price is right.

That is absolutely awesome.

Note: (Voyager 2 is) 2.1 million seconds away from Sol.

That should be light-seconds. Seconds is not a measure of distance.

Actually, "seconds" is shorthand for light-seconds in Elite Dangerous slang. Yes, there is such a thing.
