I'd complain, but I haven't touched Quake live for a year, so it's not like I was playing it while it was free.

It remains free, they just let you pay for it now if you really want to.

1st try: C. Doctorow
2nd try: Dan Brown (ouch)
3rd try: D. F. Wallace
4th try: Arthur Conan Doyle

I thought I'd stop on a good note.

Really? I suppose that's not quite as bad, but they certainly didn't tell me that. All I know is that I tried to play the game and they went out of their way to cripple the game until I jumped through whatever pointless hoops they felt like throwing at me. Definitely didn't endear me towards GfWL.

GFWL is generally easy enough to ignore so I didn't have much against it until trying to play Red Faction: Guerrilla on the PC, but that certainly turned me against it.

Besides, GFWL isn't even close to the same thing as Ubi's DRM. I don't like it either, but you can play offline with it just fine and it's not particularly intrusive anyway.

Ubi's DRM requires you to be connected to their servers to be able to play. GFWL requires you to be connected to their servers to be able to save or load. The fact that it isn't that bad with every game is unimportant; clearly they're not opposed to batshit insane implementations, and if the "service" became ubiquitous and they could get away with, they would no doubt go with extreme implementations like that--and worse--more and more often.

I'm actually paranoid enough about my privacy that I try not to even use the same username in two places, since even if I don't give enough personally identifiable info on one forum some nutjob might be industrious enough to cross-reference different forums and patch together a full bio Paranoid

It'll go on sale on Saturday, so anyone inspired by the demo might want to wait a few days.

No, it didn't.

According to MobyGames it did.

Xbox 360: 10.10.2007

Windows: 18.10.2007

Can't say I care either way, though.

The Orange Box actually came out on the 360 before PC. And they released HL1 for the PS2 in 2001.

Damn. And I thought I was doing so well on the browsing safety front, having installed every possible plugin for such things.
