1. MMORPG? Sep 30, 2004, 23:02 Saba

I'm pretty sure this is an RTS
(but after the debates, what I say and what I think are *different* things )

no, no, I think it's "Throw poop!"

It was all about teaching your Avatar to throw his/her/its poop off the friggin Island (or at the other village). It was funny how the Economics of Poop was so unbalanced (no demand, y'know), that it had to be patched. Heck, it was probably why so many goddamn villaged faced <eerie_whisper>'deeeaaaatth'</e_w>

2. Computer Family Game of the Year Nominee? Feb 13, 2004, 16:32 Saba

Computer Family Game of the Year:
* Zoo Tycoon™: Complete Collection™, published by Microsoft, developed by Blue Fang

... so is it like a high school rep. nomination, where you vote either yes or no? (As far as I can remember, 2/3 single nominees at my school *lost*)

They could have picked a worse game to model after (I don't know, pick any non-Shigeru(-dono) game), although I suppose not making a game of the classic book would have been the best choice -- Left alone to the freeware (angband+variants, more I'm sure) or modders (pick your popular mod-able fantasy RPG) to do the fine jobs that they've always done.

I thought it was more like a Zelda-clone-clone, though. Left swing, Right swing, Left Swing..... jump, jump, jump, Left swing, Righ... hold on, this was a gameplay video?

edit: oops.

5. Hrm Jul 9, 2003, 23:34 Saba

I was hoping for a few changes to the whole gameplay; I would have much rather preferred a rebalance (and not have to download the same named mod) and a whole new story, as this continuation assumes the same cheese-powered (ohoho.) story from the first. More enjoyable if you actually give a hoot rather than phazing out during the cutscenes.

Oh, well. I could be wrong. The first one proved that click-and-pick, gander-and-listen* was enough to play through, but really didn't feel warrented of the pre-ordered 2-day shipping I had for it.

Definately keep James Mason Soundalike and Jeremy Soule as the respective narrator and composer, though

Edit: Jeremy Soule (Soul?) - Best. Sound. Composer. Ever.

The 'arcade' boxes look suspiciously like a chair, a monitor, and a keyboard/mouse. Top with hourly pricing and voila (or better yet, 'wallah!'), you have an overpriced arcade box which would probably be better used to foot a LAN+more PCs. (Virtual On, anyone? fun game, though.)

Is Namco the only supplier of arcade machines now? I was under the (probably wrong) impression that Sega was still tagging along in arcade boxes.

really, a Superman game just sounds boring from the start. Being the most powerful man alive and all might be fun in a meglomania/godmode sense, but only for tops, 15 minutes. Unless Kryptonite becomes a WalMart Blue Light Special, or is found to be another unmentioned chemical in cigarettes in the near parallel-universe future, I'd rather stick to Freedom Force until something dethrones it, which, well, is probably never. I'll leave old Clark & alter-persona to Cartoon Network

Matrix Reloaded - 0
Craptacular Powerade Commercial - 1
Here's hoping too that it gets better.

I thought that Valve was located in California, but why is it that game coverage seems to start in foreign countries (.be / .de / .nl ) before anyone knows of them here?

(notably, Half-Life 2 and Deus-Ex 2/tFW)

3. snowing in the NE, again. Mar 31, 2003, 09:53 Saba

Wow... one day you're surrounded by snow, and you turn around, and it's baseball season!

Oh, the irony of yesterday's OotB...Snow and monday morning classes really should cancel each other out.

Get well soon! (I'd reccomend my favorite Chinese placebo for stomach-related illnesses (Bao Ji Wan, but I'm sure the name is as sound as any medical advice you should take from a forum post )

While nightvision being sold in Walmarts is a hearty "WHY THE HELL!" link, I found that the article on "Thumbs Up" given by Iraqis to US 'liberators' funnier -

(that's http://slate.msn.com/id/2080812/ for the lazy)

11. Would this even be a good game? Mar 20, 2003, 01:00 Saba

I don't think so, there's just not that much opportunity for a good video game if this were an exact movie-to-game make such as the PS2 (or something non-PC, anyways) of LotR:TTT. There was the benefit of the marauding orcish hordes, or the Matrix (although not an exact movie-to-game make), has the benefits of the (somewhat) marauding Agent Smith hordes.

I mean, unless it were a kombat-esque fighting game (where you would never have the choice of who to be), what are they going to import as mooks (since you gotta have mooks in kung fu games!)? Ninjas? Guys in those conical rice-paddy hats (and fortune cookies for health.. yeesh)? Have Tom Clancy throw in a few Russians, Chinese, and a few nondescript folk from some other troubled place on the face of the Earth?(Read: everywhere except maybe Phukit, Thailand)

(oh, and CTHD was a great movie! :D)

(Edit: (*)? what (*)?)

4. uh, why? Mar 20, 2003, 00:46 Saba

From the sound of it, it looks like people already have argued/etc about it enough to be iron-set in opinions, but just a quickie as not over-do it, why is Purge a bad thing? (is the decrepit engine the only/main reason?)

(I'm just asking since if not otherwise for an affliction of Freelancer and a pending one of ZELDA!, I'd probably try the demo)

2. ?!?!! Mar 15, 2003, 00:10 Saba

No, it isn't (it's'nt?) just you. I had though this was something on the lines of the free MMORPG (er.. http://sourceforge.net/projects/planeshift/). And yet this self-touted "MMOG" (Read: more people than a usual fps, less than the usual mmorpg) demands a purchase and monthly fee?!?!. And it's based on the q2 engine?! (I mean, this isn't against gameplay -- seeing how I haven't played it yet -- but my god, either said gameplay is refined digital crack, or these people are just rolling around in liquid hubris. (or the website is mistaken..))

Not to mention that a enjoyable fps server with 16 people are somewhat uncommon; a fun 32-64 one is even rarer. 200 .... yikes.

News Comments > AMP II Engine Demo
32. Re: No subject Feb 19, 2003, 12:36 Saba

While I'm all for extra features to detail my next escape from reality, I'd give credits to some of the Devs for not putting in some of these things.

I guess my only cases in point are Turok II, the Alien in AVP1/2, and The Opera Mod is that made me want to yak from motion sickness after an hour or so. (Those horrible ladders in Turok 2! The HorrAARRGGGGHFAGAHFSHGADAAA *gag*!)

Maybe I don't meet the (growing?) biological system requirements for games these days, but it probably wasn't in the best interests of the Devs to cut grey area geeks like me

A sort of nice tech demo, altogether, although I'm still waiting on some liscenced Serious Engine games, how much could that great engine cost to use?

I got bored of the demo, does that count? :-D

Poor ads didn't really help this one either (it's already a given, but an overt "Hey, you geek/nerd/twink, buy this video game!" (the sum of said ads, IMO) doesn't seem like the best pitch altogether.)
