Contract Jack proved that when you try to sell vanilla ice cream to people expecting mint-chocolate chip, you get pissy results.

They've definitely lost the confidence of gamers who might otherwise just go out and purchase this game before hearing any reviews/ratings.
Personally I want this game to redeem Ion Storm because I know that at least have the potential to succeed...plus they own the rights to the series.

Keep up the good work! They developed a game engine so powerful they couldn't even allow the developers to release a decent SDK that would have given a longer lifespan to games like Alien Versus Predator 2 and NOLF 2.

I'll believe in Guild Wars being anything more than vaporware when it's actually out and on the shelves. Also, even assuming it does launch, there's no guarantee it won't be another Shadowbane that is filled with technical problems and virtually unplayable lag. Enjoy the beta during E3! Nice and open too. Look for links (old news).

Re: $2 |

2$ a month is much less than 15$ a month - especially WHEN ITS OPTIONAL I'd be willing to say that powergamers will easily be able to spend more than $10 a month, probably closer to $20+. So how you define optional is up to you, but I know that econmic reality dictates things a little different than you might imagine.
So if you're a casual MMORPG player then Guild Wars is for you! Otherwise if you're one of those people who devours content and whatnot, other MMORPG's might have more bang for the buck.

The Skinny on Guild Wars |

I lost interest in any other MMORPG than Guild Wars the day I discovered that GW has no monthly fee. You seem to think that:
No Monthly Fee = Not having to spend any more money on GW
Sort of like buying a house outright without a mortgage and expecting not to pay a dime from that day forth. You'll be *strongly* encouged with additional content. Mostly from peer pressure (come on man, just buy the added content, it's only $2!).

Guild Wars Business Model |

I am very interested to see... 1) How successful free MMOGs will be at supporting themselves. 2) What effect free MMOGs will have on the overall massive multiplayer market Here's how Guild Wars works. They release the game along with 'additional content'. In order to get access to additional content you pay a small sum, maybe $0.50, maybe $1.00. Lets say that content is another dungeon. So long as one person in your party has paid for that content everyone else can enter.
A new class might be added...but you have to buy it first.
So if you're the powergamer type who likes to experience eveything....well it is going to cost you. Otherwise if you're the laid back type you might not have to shell much out at all.

What was the last FPS with a better storyline than Halo within the last 5-6 years? I'm talking straight first person shooter here people, none of this inventory/RPG types.
Edit: Half Life was pretty good...but that's about it.

Was promised last September |

I spent about three straight weeks trying to tend to the Halo Troubleshooting forums over on Gearbox's website. I attempted to engage the developers in a dialogue on numerous occasions through PM's and was essentially stonewalled. The game engine was just so flawed that any sort of patching was a monumental task apparently.
Part of the 'promises' made early on was the release of an SDK...something that they kept talking about for well over two months, repeatedly stating that they were still under contract by Microsoft to provide full support until January. Well January 30th came and went, a few patches arrived in between, but nothing of significance.
It certainly killed idealism for game developers.
