It might actually be good if they stay away from the established (past) characters and settings and did something original, just for the film.

No, you're not the only one. There are dozens of ways to get games. What made Good Old Games unique and appealing was that you could get so many really fantastic classic titles with patches (and frequently expansions) rolled in updated to run on modern systems for great prices. The Infinity Engine games, the two Might and Magic series, Blood, the Ultimas and so many others, and the prices were great. Nothing else compares to that, and with it becoming less of a priority for them, I fear the growth of their catalog of classics may start to slow.

With good writers, it could work. There have been a great many successful, fun shows about military misfits, either straight comedies or action comedies.

Of course, the kind of writers that can pull something like that off are few and far between.

So... people who like what you don't like are suckers? Please, give us a list of what we're allowed to be entertained by. Can I watch Firefly? Do you like it enough for me to enjoy it without being a fool? Can I enjoy white wines, or do you only like reds?

Interesting that the cast from the original shows up prominently. DLC with different trees? Or just apart of the story?

Part of the story.

Really. It is an opportunity to pre-order expansions based on previous developer/series knowledge. You don't trust their content? Great - buy it after it is released, reviews are out, and Steam has it on sale. It isn't some dark corporate conspiracy either way.

I've already played this. It has been available as a mod for quite some time, and for free.

News Comments > WoW Adding All Race Access
17. Re: WoW Adding All Race Access Aug 17, 2012, 15:48 Blackhawk

Blizzard doesn't just pop out ideas. Blizzard studies reams and reams of data and comes to conclusions.

I'm guessing that they determined that the majority of their dedicated player base would be buying the expansion for the end game content regardless. Giving away the first few levels (let's face it - two or three hours of gaming) will draw in those who aren't sure about whether to buy it. Instead of $40 plus renewing a $15 subscription, they just need to renew. Low price point, more customers. Many of them will check out the new zones and leave, but many will pay to keep playing and/or to level up into the new content.

Make sure you also sue the following:

LucasArts (Star Wars: Rebellion)
BioWare (Mass Effect 3: Rebellion Pack)
Spiderweb Software (Geneforge 4: Rebellion)
Midas Interactive (Polaris Rebellion)
Phoenix Interactive (Space Rebellion)
Namco Bandai (Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion)

I've got a list of probably two dozen more. Rebellion - you can't claim your name as IP, at least not anymore.

They don't care. They firmly, genuinely believe that the vast majority of their lost sales aren't because of their policies, it is because of piracy. They don't have any doubt that it is so.

I hope they plan on making it free-to-play, because here's a hint: your primary audience doesn't have money, and households with multiple children don't want to have to shell out $60 each for multiple copies and pay multiple $15 subscriptions for an activity for their kids when kids' attention tends to turn somewhere else a month later. Not when something like Roblox is available for free, and does Lego style gameplay well enough already.

I hope not. This is like saying, "All reading will now be on the internet. No one will sell paperback novels anymore."

And yet e-reader business is skyrocketing while B&M bookstores are closing like mad. People are voting with their business.

$299.... I can't even think of the hardware used to keep this price so low and not make MS have too steep losses in manufacturing this console.

They may be willing to accept losses in return for a huge install base to which to sell numerous other products and services.

Tons of content, yes... but those things??? Sorry, I disagree. Wow bored the shit out of me within the first few levels... and I stuck it out through the mid levels.

You only stuck it out through the mid levels, and yet you speak authoritatively about its content and depth?

35 GB is the HD space required, I don't know where to find how large the download is.

Probably less than half of that. You download a game (say, 10GB.) You then install it. It unpacks that 10GB, which is an archive file (comparable to a .zip.) Now you have the original 10GB archive plus the 15GB extracted version. That took 25GB right there.

The final installed version may only be 15 GB, but it still takes 25GB to install it, after which you can delete the installer and get much of that space back.

Yeah, hackers have just managed to brute force thousands of people's of passwords all in one week. There's nothing else going on, just pure sheer luck.

Who says that they did it in a week? These are battle.net accounts, not Diablo III accounts. Blizzard announced you can turn bits into cash a long time ago, while WoW gold has been becoming less and less valuable. Smart hackers have been building up a stock of compromised accounts for a while now, just waiting for Diablo III to go live.

What people are seeing now is, likely as not, months worth of hacked accounts being accessed for the first time all at once.

/edit - and seriously, people using "ABC123" as their password and downloading porn aps isn't a Blizzard security issue.

The interesting bit is that we're getting so close to photorealism that 'improved graphics' as a selling point is about to hit a wall. We'll reach a point at which graphics can't be improved noticeably, and the developers will have to find some other way to make their games stand out. Since nobody is going to buy based on sound, hopefully it will make them push content as their selling point.
