40 males, 4 females. E3 2014.

Girls are most welcome in my video game treehouse, it's not a 'boys only' club.

PCGamer.com - Air Control may be the worst game on Steam.

Suicide Guy - Greenlight'd

The main goal of this game is actually to commit suicide, but it's absolutely not meant to make fun of suiciders.

Homefront, a video game also written by John Milius, is about a North Korean invasion of America.[20] One notable "easter egg" relating to the film is a large billboard at a school sport stadium which reads "Go Wolverines!!!".

Loved watching Red Dawn (1984) back in the day. I think a remake was made but I haven't seen it.

oh shi... Same director of Red Dawn wrote Homefront.

News Comments > SSFIVAE Replacing GFWL with Steamworks Too
6. Re: SSFIVAE Replacing GFWL with Steamworks Too May 31, 2014, 08:16 Ladron3dfx

PCGamer.com article
As for Capcom's other GfW Live games, including Dead Rising 2 and Resident Evil 5, Capcom gave us the following statement: "While we do not have any information regarding changes to the GFWL service, all of our applicable titles continue to support the features and will function normally."

GFWL continues and there is no confirmed shutdown date, even Capcom does not know.

A free copy of SSFIVAE on Steam/Steamworks? Absolutely not! Why on earth would I do that.

End of an era.
Indeed.

Pour a drink to fallen friends (and in this case services).

This does come at an interesting time though. So very close to the shutdown of Games For Windows Live. This leaves Steamworks as the only common backend still running.

Now does anyone have a list of games that are using GameSpy?

I believe this is the full list.

Also, GFWL has been updated recently. Version 3.5.95.0 is latest. Wink

Steam Controller in Windows
I can not get the device to function as a gamepad in Windows.

Steam controller FAQ
Can I use a controller if I don’t have a Steam machine?
Yes. It’ll work very well with any version of Steam.

IGN.com
The Steam Controller is compatible with both Steam Machine and PCs running Steam. Though the controller can be used to play non-Steam games on PC, functionality is very limited.

IGN.com article
Without Steam, if you plug this into one of those devices and run some game that’s not part of Steam, you would only get the most basic functionality. It wouldn’t actually be very valuable as a controlling device.

“It would basically be a mouse with 16 buttons,” Coomer added.

Developed for PC Steam. Wink

The erroneousness GFWL shutdown post and correction by Microsoft.
Eurogamer.net article

"Games for Windows Live will be discontinued on July 1, 2014. Although it is available through Steam, Age of Empires Online requires features of the Games for Windows Live service. You can continue to enjoy all the features of Age of Empires Online as the service will remain 100 per cent operational until July 1, 2014 when the server will shut down."

UPDATE: Microsoft has responded to our inquiry about Games for Windows Live's impending closure with a cryptic message about believing in PC gaming and having a long-term plan to grow.

The company's official statement is as follows:

"Yesterday, an Age of Empires support web page communicated that the free to play Age of Empires Online will be discontinued on July 1, 2014. We believe in Windows/PC gaming and have long-term plans to grow our support. We expect there to be transitions as we build out new investments, but we remain committed to bringing first party gaming services and games to Windows for years to come. We will share more details in the future."

AOEO (a GFWL MMORTS) will shutdown on July 1st. Fact!

Age of Empires Online blog

Age of Empires Online will close on July 1, 2014. On that day, the service will cease to function, and no further games can be played. The servers will be taken offline, and no features of the game or the game service will work without the servers. Until that date, the game will continue to fully function just as it does now. You can quest, raid, chat and trade as much as you like until then.

Wikipedia.org AEOE

Wiki article referring to AOEO July 1 shutdown blog post.

It's not GFWL that will shutdown, it's AOEO. Wink

Stronghold Crusader 2, Developed for PC Steam.

Shackled and bound by the the Snake, the Pig or the Caliph is more preferable than the Steamworks DRM.

The physical box copies also will use it, so there is no escape. Wink

The Xbox One won't be Microsoft's last console, says Phil Spencer

"I don't," he tweeted yesterday, when asked whether Xbox One might be Microsoft's last traditional console. "I think local compute will be important for a long time."

52. Re: Fallout 3 Removes GFWL? Jan 11, 2014, 06:54 Ladron3dfx

Joystiq.com article
Update: A Bethesda spokesperson has contacted Joystiq with clarification regarding the recent update. "We have not removed GFWL from the game," the spokesperson stated. "The only that that has changed is that Steam has removed the need to activate the GFWL codes when purchasing the game."

This only pertains to the Fallout 3 version on Steam, any other version is unaffected.

Dual DRM serves no one, so good news for all Steam cultists.

Joystiq.com article

PlayStation Now, which will stream games from the original PlayStation, PS2 and PS3 eras first on PS3 and PS4, will kick off on PS3 with a closed beta in the US at the end of January, with a full rollout planned for some time this summer. Users will be able to rent games individually or pay for a PlayStation Now subscription. Sony aims to eventually expand the service beyond Sony devices too.
Well, this sounds like a fantastic feature, not all to keen on the rental/subscription part of it. It seems like an extra monthly subscription in addition to PS Plus. Great way to discover old titles.

(uses voice command) "Xbox!, Do that too!"

One digital distribution service should not control the direction of PC gaming and its future. It should not envelop the entirety of PC gaming and hold golden keys to the PC gaming kingdom. That is the future of PC gaming on its current path, 80% market share now and as other services fail the percentage will increase. Each purchase of Steamworks embedded titles is a validation of its dominance, no matter how small or large the purchase. Steam is not PC gaming, it is part of PC gaming. It should never be the PC platform itself.

Left 4 Dead 2

381 hrs on record

Infected killed
128,385

Rochelle 39%

Been there, done that! Spot_left

It looks as if a few achievements have been added since my playing days. Nothing worth the trouble of installing the game again although there is an incredible amount of replay value in L4D2.

Free? A slap in the face to all those who purchased the game years ago.

IF YOU ARE AN EU SUBSCRIBER YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO WITHDRAW FROM A PURCHASE TRANSACTION FOR DIGITAL CONTENT WITHOUT CHARGE AND WITHOUT GIVING ANY REASON UNTIL DELIVERY OF SUCH CONTENT HAS STARTED OR PERFORMANCE OF THE SERVICE HAS COMMENCED. YOU DO NOT HAVE A RIGHT TO WITHDRAW FROM A TRANSACTION OR OBTAIN A REFUND ONCE DELIVERY OF THE CONTENT HAS STARTED OR THE PERFORMANCE OF THE SERVICE HAS COMMENCED, AT WHICH POINT YOUR TRANSACTION IS FINAL.

Once the download process has started the sale is final.

It's all a bit ridiculous since one needs to download/run the game before discovery of any bugs. Buying a subscription to a game on Steam is like a roll of the dice. Snake eyes or a 7. Pirate

Refunds? All I have ever heard/read are horror stories. Halloween
