News Comments > PAX East Registration
1. Re: PAX East Registration Nov 3, 2011, 23:45 necrosis

Well looks like PAX is locked into Boston from now on. So much for ever going to one.

Would think they would pick a more sensible location on the East Coast like, I don't know, somewhere in the middle? Not to mention stupid expensive hotels. I don't remember paying ~$180+ for rooms at Otakon.

1) I like how this is a big deal. It means people actually cared about the game. If it was a "shitty console port" no one would have given a rats ass about the boss fights.

2) The boss fights were hard? Really? And I am talking about *NOT* using typhoon to kill them as I never did my first play through. Shotgun only as I never used it anywhere else in the game so I had tons of ammo for it. First boss took a few tries. Other two only once. I guess I play FPS games to much or something.

Disk checks? The last game I played with a disk check was Diablo II. Also the last game I had that Daemon Tools alone could spoof the disk requirement. Just made a ISO and scripts to load it when it launched.
I hear that the professional version of DT still works with far more modern disk checks.
Humm might check it out. I have some older games that I play every so often where the developer hasent removed the disk check.

Awesome... Now if only I could get the game to progress past the "Initializing" status. Worked the first day and hasn't since.
Maybe you could try the crack? hah!

Just remember though, you'd be a filthy pirate then. Even though you already own the game.

I actually "crack" all my disc-based games. I'm in Canada so we don't have anti-circumvention laws like the US has in the DMCA. It's legal to do it here if it's for a legal purpose. The reason I crack my games? To remove disc-checks. So I don't have to dig out the darn disc every time I want to play a game. I also legally own all my games. There wasn't always a time when I could claim the high-road but I can now. So, as a paying customer I'm just giving myself a better experience. Being able to remove disc-checks in Canada may change soon however, there is legislation tabled right now which would introduce the worst of the US's style of DMCA. Sigh.

I guess my main reason for lack of seeing disk checks is because I have used Steam since DA:O came out.

It isn't monitoring, it's looking at directories. From what I understand it is not opening anything.

Still not right, but it's basically doing what 90% of Google's programs do. Remember Google Desktop? Does Google even still make that? Now that was a program that looked at everything you did in detail...
Well considering Google Desktop was a search program it sort of has to touch all files on your computer to, well, search.

Origin has no fucking business touching anything outside its own directory and system files.

Like I said, still wrong. But you know what Google was doing with everything it searched, right?
Do you really know what anyone is doing with anything they collect from you?

Why does this game look like some stupid 'shock factor' title along the lines of Postal and Duke Nukem? Gaining hype just because they like to push the line and deliberately poke people's buttons?

Looks like EA spent some time programing Origin to snoop around your computer as well.
