For some inexplicable reason, this confirmation of what I already suspected has upset me a LOT more than I thought it would Cry

Except that Massive Entertainment hasn't been independent for years. They were part of Vivendi Games before the merger with Activision.

I don't recall -- I'm paraphrasing at the moment, but I imagine that headshot = death in this one too just judging by the depth of what they intend to aim for.

The November Game Informer had a nice little write up on OF2. Among the highlights:

- The primary goal is realism. Brand Manager Andrew Wafer said "It's less like when you watch a hollywood movie and more like when you're watching a news report on guys in Afghanistan or Iraq."

- There will be no automatic health regeneration. Damage will varywith different bullet calibers, projectiles and explosions. Healing will be provided by medics or aid stations.

- Gameplay includes infantry skirmishes, special ops stealth, tank battles and helicopter air strikes across single player, co-op and competitive multiplayer.

- Game will include a deep map editor to inspire a robust mod community

Except that the developer has already stated that there will be no regenerating health in the game.

For me the solution is simple -- if developers choose to ignore or sabotage my preferred gaming platform I will either not buy their games or I'll just find another hobby.

The one thing that gives me some degree of hope about this game is that the developers have flat-out said that there will be no automatic health regeneration in the game. If you get shot, you will be injured and will require a medic to heal you. And the severity of the injury will depend on the type of weapon you get shot with.

Do you honestly believe that Codemasters is going to release a game that will be as "hardcore" as the original?

Not as of yet.

Stardock and Iron Clad were told by European publishers/retailers that "space games don't sell well in Europe" with the result that there is no retail release in Europe.

Last I heard, they were on their way back across the Atlantic with the North American sales figures to try and convince them to change their minds.

Actually, the governing body for this sort of situation is the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

"Max Payne, Manhunt, Civilization 4, Mafia 2, The Darkness, Serious Sam 2, Prey, Oblivion?"

As gamers, those are very significant.

From an economic perspective, they mean absolutely nothing when compared to the behemoth that is GTA. From that stance, Take Two is very much a one-trick pony.

If I were a shareholder and seeing the past performance of Take Two stock and looking at the future, the right decision for me would be to sell to EA.

Considering that the PotC movies were complete and total narrative disasters bordering on narrative incoherence, Gore is a fine one to talk about wanting about creating games with "zero narrative."

Yeah, sorry about that -- it was a poorly-worded attempt to illustrate that the Steam Community has essentially made GFWL stillborn (as pointed out by that other fellow).

Didn't have my requisite coffee before writing that.

Considering the HUGE success the games that have implemented Windows LIVE have been so far -- Halo 2, Shadowrun, Gears of War, Universe at War -- and the Steam Community, this could very well be the easiest boycott in the history of mankind!
