There's been many more Aliens and Predator games before AvP. Several based directly off Aliens, if I remember correctly. It was always the perfect franchise to adapt into video game format. Some movies just shouldn't venture into that domain.

Nope, this still doesn't make HL2's multiplayer good.
I mean, come on. DM is fun for about a day until the lag and overcrowded maps gets to you. CS Source is a joke. A gutted piece of its former self. And every single "mod" released, specifically Garry's Mod and the weak attempt at CTF are designed for bumbling idiots.
The CTF mod especially gripes my ass. After a fuck ton of releases they still have you running at supersonic speeds in some of the worst designed maps ever.

and YES, i'm quite peeved at the person that gave away the ending of the mod. Nice job, you are banned from the intarweb! Oh come on! I didn't even mention the showdown with the other giant robot filled with Combine soldiers. Wait...oops. Haha, you all suck.

I just beat this thing finally and it's pretty goddamn good. Reminds me of Half Life and Unreal. Open ended at some parts and straightfoward in others. Good level design. Kinda creepy sound. The puzzles and open endedness is what reminds me of Unreal 1. That whole ending where you ride on the giant robot was insane. Very clever all around.
I can't wait to see more stuff like this.

Carmageddon |

I really hope they get Carma 4 right. The name of the developer slips my mind, but I remember they have previous experience in racing games. So at least the cars should control realistically. It's the damage model, environments, types of cars, and pedestrians that has me worried. So much can be fucked up. Even after all these years Carmageddon 2 hasn't been matched. Play it for a while then try GTA3. Carma's damage model and pedestrians are so far ahead it's not even funny.
And if the game is good I hope they release the SDK so fans can make cars. That's what kept the last few games alive.

Wait a second....who the hell thought 2 vs. 1 in CS was supposed to be fun? It's a team based game. With any less than 16 players it's totally pointless. Kinda like how in HL2DM servers cram 32 people into what's intended to be 4 player matches.

People have been asking for years to see the AI in action and still nothing. These guys are a fraud. At least early HL2 videos showed more than landscapes and pretty guns.

"How 'bout those ATI SP levels? When we get those?!" Two weeks after Team Fortress 2. Seriously, though, these "ATI Levels are just a lot of hot air from Newell.

I don't remember the numbers, but Doom 3 crushed HL2 in sales. And neither are even in the same league as Halo 2.

I'd like to see an announcment concerning Opposing Force 2. That would rock so hard. But you know it's gonna be some lame bullshit nobody cares about but will get all excited anyway.

The Doom 3 engine is WAY the fuck more powerful than Half Life 2. It'll be a couple years before we see great stuff made with it, though. Here's hoping Raven pulls it off with Quake 4. HL2 was outdated long before release. It'll be the cheap engine to get for new developers. A year from now it will look ancient. Without the excellent use of physics we'd be nitpicking the awful textures.
The most impressive engine by far is Far Cry. There's no argument. With everything maxed it looks and runs great. Doom 3 looks great maxed out but hardly runs. And HL2 looks ok and runs amazing. Far Cry is the only one to combine everything and make it work. Too bad each patch finds a new way to break it. And with a dead community you have a real sad situation.
As far as gameplay is concerned it's a toss-up between Far Cry's originality and HL2's successful refinement of what's already been done. Doom 3 didn't improve anything.
