| Looks pretty goddamn amazing. I loved the original but the one thing that killed it for me was other players. Just one guy could ruin the whole thing. Either through lag or stupidity or griefing. With such a niche game it will be even harder to build as large a player base as a free Half Life modification. |

The comparison shots of the "improved textures" are embarrassing. It looks as if somebody applied too much of Photoshop's sharpen and noise filters on a low resolution image blown up in size.
Oh, and the cvar values in the console are still locked. Has any previous id game locked the console before? |

There is a reason that you didn't have Quake on your Super Nintendo. In the past it wasn't possible to download hundreds of megabytes (and gigabytes) of data in minutes. |

Ha, to date Rage has only had ONE PATCH and all it did was lock the in-game console command variables, effectively blocking people from tweaking the game. The added "new" limited graphics options in the menu were functions that already existed in the command line or config file. Meanwhile how many patches has Bethesda released for Skyrim? And just today they released a preview video of the Creation Kit. Where's idstudio? Remember the editing tools they promised would be part of the damn game on day one?
Here's a taste of what you were able to do with the unpatched version: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2166471 |

Then what was the point of replying? There's tons of once great developers that went down the toilet. I was a huge fan of id software, too. I grew up with Commander Keen for crying out loud. But that doesn't make them immune to failure. It will take a miracle in Doom 4 if they ever want my money again and if they want to last longer than post-Invisible War Ion Storm. |

| id software lost all credibility with PC gamers after Rage. Anybody who thinks otherwise is either too young or too stupid or a combination of both to know better. |

Still one of the best original music soundtracks of all time.
Dammit, I just beat this demo and now I have to reinstall.

To date we haven't seen actual gameplay footage, merely a 100% scripted demonstration of what they intend for the game to look like.
The new cg trailer is up and uses Clint Mansell's theme song from Moon. Great song from a great movie, but doesn't fit Aliens at all. Should stick with James Horner and not deviate. Jeez. |

| I have so completely lost interest in Colonial Marines I didn't realize they had intended for it to come out this year. Now that it's been officially delayed until fall 2012 I'm calling an early 2013 release. And it will still feel rushed out. 5 hour campaign, few weapons, barebones gameplay, and a half-assed PC port. You heard it here first. |

Has anyone tried either or both? I downloaded the demo for Evochron Mercenary, but I haven't tried it yet. I've been playing that one for a while and it's a totally different style game. Evochron is like a scaled up, harder Freelancer with less focus on story and more on simulation. It takes a while to master and you will get your ass kicked. For how awesome it is you'd never suspect it was developed by ONE GUY with more content on the way. |

I'm a few missions into SOL Exodus and really enjoying it. Pretty much all the controls you want from a classic space-sim are there from rolling, afterburner, inertial "sliding", setting speed, targeting, and so on. HUD/cockpit is somewhat barebones. The weapon and ship upgrades are rather thin, but work well and have a punch. So far as I can tell the AI is good and provides a challenge. Missions have optional side quests like keeping buddies alive and killing a certain number of ships to get higher ranks. To rearm and repair you dock with one of the friendly capital ships. The downside is it subtracts from your final score at the end of the mission, which can cut back on the number of upgrades you get. This encourages you to play smart.
Graphics are good for an indie. They aren't anything to write home about. Sound is acceptable. Music is kinda weak and out of place. The voice acting is actually good. Settings maxed out it runs great.
For a $10 space arcade sim (more arcade than simulation) made by 6 guys it's pretty astonishing how far the indie PC gaming scene has come. Hopefully it does well because they have a firm grasp on what makes space combat fun. Maybe in the future they'll get a budget and develop a worthy successor to Freespace 2.

| After watching the trailer Prometheus is clearly part of the same universe. You have the "Weyland" company logo all over the vehicles and costumes. Alien had Weyland (actually spelled "Weylan" in the movie, but had "Weyland" in the script so explain that one), subsequently changed to Weyland-Yutani in Aliens and Alien 3 then bought by Walmart in Alien Resurrection (not kidding). So you kind of get an idea of the timeline. The Space Jockey ship is the same design as the derelict on LV-426. Is it the same ship and pilot? We won't know until the movie is out. Personally I hope not because it takes away from the mystery. But I have a strong suspicion it's supposed to be. |

The second although universally proclaimed as a weak successor, I actually enjoyed even more than the first.
This last AvP (reboot) was a dismal fail, thats true enough. But maybe just maybe, they might have learned something from their failure. Sega had nothing to do with the originals. AvP3 (2010) was the first game they had any involvement with after buying the license and forcing Rebellion to rush it out. In that time they canceled Obsidian's Aliens: Crucible RPG and shelved plans for an AvP4 along with temporarily shelving Aliens: Colonial Marines. Presently Gearbox is rushing to complete the game after gutting it for consoles.
The only thing that can restore my faith in the franchise is if an unknown studio is hired to develop and any other publisher gets the license. Also no more multiplatform bullshit. Everybody suffers when they do that. |
