It took years to get all the various teams into the first game. I'd hate to see them take just as long to do the same with this one, especially considering how they started charging full price for each updated version.

Currently my experience seems to be empty houses for as far as I can see. You can go into just about any house now, but it doesn't matter because there's never anything inside. I know Rocket said that he was going to make scavenging harder in Standalone, but I've died from hunger/thirst three times now. In the whole time I've played the game, I've found precisely two cans of sardines.

Anyone else having this problem? If this were the mod I'd suspect the server of being at fault for not spawning gear, but no matter which servers I try it's still the same. An occasional rotten orange here or there, or maybe a broken M4 in a barracks, but really very little else.

They've really fixed the coop campaign AI turn problems. What used to take 5 minutes is now approaching the speed of the single-player (~1 minute). Really, though, I can't believe they still haven't fixed agents being unable to deploy inside friendly territory in the multiplayer campaign. That seems like a rather obvious problem compared to some of the obscure fixes I'm seeing in each iteration of patch notes.

Have you tried multiplayer coop yet? I can't seem to "deploy" agents in my own territories in multiplayer coop, and I don't see this talked about on the forums, or addressed in any of these patch notes. A real pain when I want to set a diplomat to administrate for the tax increase!

Massively outmatched during a naval invasion of my city, I sent my meager garrison fleet of two ships towards the enemy fleet to do what I could. The enemy ships redirected to the other side of the map, formed up into a pretty formation... and waited until the time ran out. They then fled the city and somehow I won. I have no illusions that Shogun 2 had perfect battle AI (it didn't), but somehow I feel that it never failed to actually come at me, no matter how stupidly. It's only been a few battles so far, but I'm seeing really weird behavior from the AI in Rome 2, especially whever there's a dual land/sea battle.

As much as I'm loving the game, I'm really hoping they can fix whatever is happening with the AI turn length during multiplayer coop games. What normally takes me 30 seconds to sit through in singleplayer takes upwards of five minutes of waiting even when both players have high end rigs and settings turned down. Very strange, and tedious.

It IS turn-based! Only the battles themselves are in real time. The whole strategic layer is turn-based.

Wait, so multiplayer is in? I'd read something last month about it not being in the game until a future update, and hadn't planned on getting it until my friends and I (who loved the board game) could all play together. If it's in now, I'll have to play buy it.

Bigger squads would be totally balanced if only they could go back to spawning ONLY on the squad leader, and not just anyone in the squad. During big battles in BF2, you'd see just where the stream of players were coming from and could circle back around the enemy and assassinate the squad leader while he was trying to hide in the back. Bam, no more forward spawn point for the guys getting gunned down afterwards. As it is right now, people just popping out of thin air into every gunfight takes a lot of fun out of some of these fights.

The developer of the new Space Hulk game? I might be reading too much into this, but maybe we can take that as an indication it'll be turn-based again? I just hope they learn from the mistakes of the last game, and make a full game and not just a watered-down remake with less features than the original games it was emulating.

Dawn of the 18th century? Call me a pedant, but that would put it in the early 1700s. If the game is supposed to take place around the era of the Napoleonic wars, then it should have been called "Dawn of the 19th century".

First person shooter sounds like a terrible idea for his series. Honestly, I'd think a turn-based squad tactical game would be a lot cooler, with some RPG advancements thrown in.

Almost just as bad as the blatant cash grab is, the game is based off of some wonky ranges, too. The screenshots don't seem to fairly represent the average combat ranges, as anything more than five or six tiles away was practically unhittable with your weapons. Maybe getting better equipment and marksmanship skill would improve on that, but it seemed to me that you had to do EVERYTHING at point blank ranges.

Oh yeah, and if you want to repair the durability on your gun, you have to spend real life money on it, with no way around it that I could find. Eff that.

I really enjoyed some of the tank battles in the first Red Orchestra, so when I heard that RO2 was going to have only a single tank per side at launch I was a bit disappointed. More were promised to come "soon after", as they were just so much more complex in the second game compared to the first, but seriously? Over a year now, and we've yet to see ANY new vehicles added. Even the halftracks, which were supposedly a priority.

Plan 'n Go wasn't the problem, and I don't think experimentation with an established gamestyle is a bad thing. But yeah, this game falls far short of the original games, and that's because of the delivery. A remake should never have LESS content than the game it is supposedly updating. This one just felt like a cheap knock-off with updated graphics. I'm guessing that however ambitious their original plan was for the game, they ended up settling for a "kind of JA" type of game.

Seems like weapon repair and healing are tied to the real money currency in-game, which means you would NEED to spend money to play this. And the tokens are very pricey, too. To afford a premium weapon in the shop, you'd have to drop $4 apiece, and to hire on a merc permanently you're looking at about $15. Certainly one of the most ambitiously-priced "free to play" games I've seen so far.

I have to wonder if this is something coming from the Magna Mundi debacle. Since the Magna Mundi team got their project dropped, mayhap this is going to incorporate all the things which made that mod so great, but done in-house.

To be honest, the "Plan n Go" part of the game isn't the problem with the game. It's actually very cool to see your mercs executing their orders in real time, especially given the option for synchronizing their actions together. Unfortunately, there's a lot missing in this game, even compared to the original games 13+ years ago.

-There's no vehicles to travel around in, which kind of makes you wonder what the point of the SAM sites are no with no helicopter to cruise around in.

-The voice acting is some of the most bored-sounding I've heard in a long time, and really makes you wince when certain mercs start reciting their lines in a dull monotone.

-You can only have one attachment per gun since attachments are "equipped" to your character and not your weapon. I've read that there exist combinations of some attachments so that you're not limited to just one, but either those are much further along than I am in the game, or that discussion must have been about a mod.

-Buildings are no longer completely destructible, and you can only blast through predetermined points marked with green glowing silhouettes. Maybe not a huge deal, but I miss the mayhem you could randomly unleash with a LAW.

-You can repair weapons, but not armor. This is one of those things where I just assumed I was missing something obvious, because the different armors and the camouflage bonuses they give are actually very cool. Alas, to replace the money sink that weekly expenses made in the earlier game (there aren't any), you are intended to spend your money replacing all that cool stuff you've been outfitting your mercs in, and which gets shot up in every mission.

-You no longer have an in-game avatar! No longer do you have the option of taking the personality test and then existing as one of the mercs down on the battlefield. Your sole role now is of faceless commander, giving orders. This is baffling to me, because any time JA was ever discussed between me and friends, the personality test and in-game avatar was one of the things most fondly remembered.

Honorary mentions should go to the fact that there used to be no fog of war or sector inventory before one of the recent content patches, which made the game both trivial on one hand, and tedious on the other. All in all, while there are plenty of good things about the game (full 3d enviroment, graphics, cool camouflage system), it just comes off as a cheap knock-off to me.
