Still in the first act but looking forward to possibly adding another nature magic user and dumping the archer (if one of any quality pops up later in the game, and I assume one will).

Potential spoiler:

You'll need your current archer [I'm guessing this is Deru] for some secondary quests in Act II. You do find another recruitable character with ranged skill in Act II when you get to the elven town of Aman'Lu. (In fact you will need to have this character in your party to complete other secondary quests.) But if you disband party members in town they usually hang around the local inn/bar, and they can be recruited again in the future.

Those secondary quests can be more difficult to complete than the primary quests, is all I can say.

Blue, has it ever occurred to you that Hudson might have acquired a taste for skunk juice?... As repugnant as that may seem, stranger things have happened.

Damn, why can't someone just release an updated Robotron for Windows (the classic version, not the newer 3D one - never got into that). As old as it is, it's still one of my all-time favorites.

What about MAME? Can't get any more original than that...

56. Re: Joystick Question Aug 9, 2005, 16:15 ShockwaveRider

Does anyone know how (or if it's even possible) to get a USB joystick to work in a DOS game running under WindowsXP?

Googling this subject yields a few suggestions:

1. Some people have had good results using the Windows XP Application Compatibility Toolkit.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windows/appcompatibility/default.mspx

Install the kit, run the QFixApp executable, browse to the DOS executable, select Win95 in the Layers tab, then try checking/unchecking the Emulate Joystick option under the Fixes tab. You might have to also go to Advanced Options and add a matching file if the DOS executable you selected is only some kind of launcher for the real executable (which is what you add as a matching file).

2. Some people suggest trying DOSBox.

http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1

Apparently among other things it translates USB joysticks to gameport-style input automatically when the DOS executable is run under DOSBox. But there are also complaints of poor framerate.

3. Still others suggest trying the VDMSound project:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/vdmsound/

This emulates the Soundblaster card and the game port functionality under Windows apparently. Kind of looks like an abandoned project though. There are also framerate complaints with this application.

I haven't tried any of these, just passing on what Google says. Good luck!

Oh, this is all assuming that those are legitimate e-mails in the first place.

Well right on the front page of VGCats Scott writes:

Saturday, August 6, 2005 4:26 PM - Jacko

I'm fairly sure Jack Thompson isn't right in the head. Forwards an email to me about Killer 7. I email him back. He threatens legal action for harrasment. Wtf?

Read the full thing here.

Edit: Yes I checked the headers. Same IP, it was him both times and not a spoof.

So I think we have to assume it's not supposed to be a joke or satire.

36. Re: New NASA vehicles Aug 2, 2005, 17:43 ShockwaveRider

Uhhhm, I'm not any kind of expert on space aeronautics or rocketry, but... if you're talking about hauling payloads to Earth orbit efficiently, what about the space elevator concept?

http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2000/ast07sep_1.htm

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_elevator

The elevator would get over the initial burden of normally having to get to escape velocity to get off-planet.

Then, to get payloads whose delivery is not time-critical out to locations within the solar system, a course could be plotted that utilizes the IPS (interplanetary superhighway) system:

http://www.cds.caltech.edu/~shane/superhighway/description.html

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interplanetary_Superhighway

This could get the payload close to where it has to go for low fuel costs, but would take longer than the direct route (usually via Hohmann orbit)...

Call me Morpheus, but personally, I'd rather not make the needs of the machines (or their keepers) a higher priority than the needs of the people.

And that would be fine, if this really was a need of the people. There's some question as to whether this extension will really conserve sufficient power/fuel to make it worth the trouble.

How do you think he does it? What makes him so good?

He stands like a statue, becomes part of the machine
Feeling all the bumpers, always playing clean
Plays by intuition, the digit counters fall
That deaf, dumb and blind kid sure plays a mean pinball..

I use winrar for everything but .zips.

I hate XPs zip functionality, as it's bare bones.

I still use Winzip. Fire it up, shows me the contents, lets me hit one button and send it to any directory I like. XP makes it much more complicated.

You are aware that Winrar can extract zip files, right?

I don't think we're the center of the universe, and I think the odds are that we're not the only intelligent/self-aware beings. I also don't think we'll ever meet another such species. The universe is just too big a place.

Maybe it's a conspiracy...

I've launched a new camapign myself. It's called "OPERATION ELIMINATE STUPID OPERATION NAMES."

I'm surprised they didn't launch this initiative as Operation Enduring Copyright.

Does anyone have the url that was "image of the day" here a few months back with pictures of that girl next to different people at a party where she looks the EXACT same in every photo, with a big smile and wide open eyes, its like the funniest set of photos ever!

This seems to be a copy of the original site:

If you want to laugh over it in the future, better download it now.

Yep. Think she got a few million...

Umm, it says on the second page:

CORRECTION REGARDING PREVIOUS STORY

In reference to the recent article entitled "Mother of the Matrix Victorious," some information has been deemed misleading. Ms. Sophia Stewart has not yet won her case against Joel Silver, Time Warner and the Wachowski Bros. The decision on October 4th enabled Ms. Stewart to proceed with her case, as all attempts to have it dismissed were unsuccessful. Ms. Stewart's case will proceed through the Central District Court of California.

So the fight continues...

The only miracle I can recall related to movement was the walking on water bit.

And when he did that I bet there were some doubters in the crowd, muttering "Son of God, huh? He can't even swim!..."
