They would really need to work on the vehicle controls if they wanted me to double dip on this again.

Yup. Driving is absolutely terrible in SD. It may genuinely be the worst driving experience of any of the big gta-like open world games.

Which is a shame, because the rest of the game is fantastic.

That made me choke on my water.

It's Friday. Why are you still drinking water? Break out the Scotch!

Never drink Scotch while reading comments. Otherwise you waste good Scotch when someone makes a funny.

Well that's as good a reason as any to drink.

You need that complicated a reason to drink? There's a 5 in the clock, man, drink on!

No one expects the qunari Inquisition!

Hrm am I going to have to finally break down and buy Dragon Age 2 on sale somewhere, so I can play DA:I? Waiting for reviews currently, but it at least SEEMS like it will be superior to DA2.

No, you don't have to. Once Dragon Keep is finally up (they have three months left, typical EA undertaking), you can use it to create a completely custom-state savegame where you can choose whatever option from both DA:O and DA2 to import into Inquisition.

This is on the frostbyte engine isn't it, which means no modding like DA:O , so I'm stuck with some of those Derp looking faces for the characters

I'm sure someone will find a way to cram some better textures in there.

Yesterday, the Al-queda-backed Sunni rebel group ISIS overran Mosul and Tikrit. The Shia-dominated Iraqi government made a plea to Iran who sent over the Quds forces (their elite units, like our Marine Corp) to help fight them. Currently Obama is mulling whether or not to provide air support for the Quds. Yes, we're contemplating providing air support for our arch enemy in the region.

Question for you alls: Is there a game out there that captures this kind of insane strategic choice that this political situation has produced?

Doom.

You're being followed by a Cyberdemon, who gets into it with two Hell Knights, while all of them are being long-distance sniped by shotgun sargeants. Who do you shoot?! YOU MAKE THE CALL!

And at least this is more in Abrams' wheelhouse, so I think they have decent odds of being pretty good.

And on the other hand, the new Star Trek movies...

I thought the first was quite good, actually. The second one was a good action flick, it just didn't have anything to do with Star Trek other than names.

If he makes that type of film in the Star Wars universe, where it fits, it should be good.

So yeah I played Destiny yesterday and...its actually good. Like a good mix of Halo, Borderlands and Diablo. Shit there are even some Star Wars vibes in there. The world was very well done, the music was excellent, the loot system has promise and the gunplay was even tolerable. I hate console FPS games and I still had a great time (god bless them for including vehicles and jumping). I went in expecting to hate the game but Bungie has a hit on their hands. I am going to buy this game, it was the most fun I've had on my console since GTA V. Some of it needs rebalancing (spewing ammo at a boss for 4 minutes isnt my idea of fun) but all of the pieces are there and I'm shocked they aren't trying to charge a monthly fee.

The game also has a weird little cursor that you control with the analog stick, makes me wonder if a PC port is coming down the road.

Hmmm interesting. I gotta say it's looked good from videos. Thanks for the update.

Not even the Millenium Falcon wants the new movies to be made.

? I do. I'd rather they make new Star Wars movies and have a chance of them being good as opposed to never seeing new Star Wars movies.

And at least this is more in Abrams' wheelhouse, so I think they have decent odds of being pretty good.

Number of Kickstarters I have received on time. ZERO.
Number of kickstarters I have received within a year of the initial projected date. ZERO.

That's just with my piddly $20-$30 pledges.

Imagine a publisher investing millions.
While I don't think publisher's should have creative say... they definitely should be able to demand reasonable deadlines.

And so far, I can't think of one single developer that can adhere to one... even when they set their own.

But a publisher also wouldn't approach a dev with a clear goal for a game, ask for a deadline, then a month later add 10 stretch goals to it and demand it still be delivered on the same release date. (well... a reasonable one wouldn't, anyway.)

Which is basically what some people are saying...

I don't see why being clear and upfront about delays is better than not being incredibly wrong about what the original release was supposed to be. If a designer can't accurately guess within a year of their release date I question how they're calculating their budget to pay their people and do everything else during development of their project. The longer the disparity there, the more likely it is that they either fold entirely or cut corners before they can get you what you funded.

Because you are, in essence, asking them to guess how much time it will take to implement an X amount of stretch goals without knowing how much X is going to be.

In every game that I've backed, the delays have been because they are creating a bigger and/or better game, which I have no problem with. Every one of these bigger and better implementations came from stretch goals, which they can't foresee when they set their original release date.

We could argue that maybe they shouldn't do the whole stretch goal routine, but that's a different matter entirely, and (imo) would be foolish of them anyway, as stretch goals bring in a LOT of cash.
