I was appalled at first with the FB acquisition of OR, but I've come around after doing some research and reading. It sounds like Mark is a fan of VR, and similarly to how one of us might plop down a couple hundred for a few ships to support Star Citizen, Mark plopped down a couple billion to accelerate and support OR. Obviously FB is more involved than that, but I don't see this as a purely business based decision to try and make OR the platform of choice for FB. It feels like there was something fanboyesque about this purchase.

Had that been the case, he'd have (or should have) used his own funds. He didn't. he bought them with FB cash, which means OR is now beholden to Facebook's shareholders. And if FB shareholders feel that OR isn't going to fast enough, or isn't making enough money, they're going to bitch and/or meddle.

The idea of selling near cost is cute, but shareholders don't accept the idea of selling near cost.

A question for someone who has played both: Which one is more realistic/drives better? Project Cars or Assetto Corsa?

Was at a hotel in Vegas last year, and the fire sprinkler was on the wall, facing into the room. And they had this big sign above it about "DO NOT HANG YOUR CLOTHES HERE."

But how else am I supposed to wash my pants?

Of course it is Netflix so yappy dramatic interactions are the (cheaper-to-produce) norm. Or maybe they're gonna be the first internet content place to step up to the major league big 4 network investment time.

Wuh? Are you aware that House of Cards cost them a hundred MILLION dollars to produce, just for the first season? I'm not sure that insinuations that Netflix is cheap are really appropriate...

jdr, I would definitely recommend trying season 4 on one of the streaming sites. It's a great season (though people who hate Worf will undoubtedly be annoyed at how much priority he's getting,) and the entire Dominion storyline expands nicely.

I think it's in season 5 when the Klingon-Cardassian (DAMMIT!!!!) war really gets going, and things really start to get tripping awesome.

So for someone who doesn't usually follow AMD stuff ever and without googling, what the hell is this mantle anyways? Someone give me a quick breakdown.

It's AMD's new proprietary graphics acceleration technology. In key locations around the globe, they're able to pump liquid nitrogen past the earth's crust deep into the mantle where they harvest neutrinos given off by the massive temperature differential. They then use these neutrinos to power vast racks of servers in the cloud that AMD procs tap into to accelerate games and other graphics. Although they were claiming increases of 30-40% (which happened in special cases), in most cases improvement was only around 10%, so like NewMaxx said, more evolutionary than revolutionary.

CLOUD MAJICS!!! WAS IT INVENTED BY TEH MICROSOFT??!

Captains wheel style controller, Oculus Rift and a game like Black Flag. I think I'd like to try that.

I've sunk mega time into online, haven't even touched single player since last October. Even after all my time playing I'm still discovering new things in LS. Just broke lvl 200 last week and still having a blast. Got my second garage and filled it up. I searched for and found a large mature crew to roll with so even running private lobbies we can fill'em up. Last week I even ran an event where a bunch of us got together dressed up as bikers and rolled LS on choppers, was a blast. Even though R* has their heads up their asses on a lot of things, it's GTA, online, with up to 16 of your friends, pure video game awesomeness.

Yeah I'm going to give it another go when it hits the PC.

I already pretty much subscribe for the old Star Trek stuff, more is always good. Although for the life of me I don't know what people see in Deep Space 9.

o_O

Seriously? That's the best Star Trek show out there (mostly because it's just Berman & Co ripping off Babylon 5, but even so it's still awesome.)

It just takes a long time to get going. A very, VERY long time. But from season 4 and on, it's a heckuva show.

@ Forgedreality, yeah, Lwaxana was a fucking TERRIBLE character. Take everything that's irritating about Deanna, and then take away the few good things (mostly the way she looked. Hey, it was the 80s!), and tadaaa. I always felt so sorry for Majel Barret that THAT was the role they gave her... Babylon 5 treated her with much more reverence.

I can't play today. Disconnecting 5-15 minutes after starting any game. But, hey, at least somebody gets their achievements, right? Maybe there should be one for reaching 10,000 disconnects.

It's the benefits of always-online, dude!

It's probably failbox footage.

7.5 minutes of crawling through torn up and abandoned shit and looking through a cellphone (for whatever reason), followed by 30 seconds of fairly bog-standard shooting.

Be still my beating heart.

There's not going to be a presence in all those 400 billion stars. Humanity will only have a presence in a few hundred of them, at most. That the rest is there, eh, it gives explorers a place to go, I guess. A few weeks after launch, someone will post a video of him reaching a star 80,000 lightyears away from whatever is considered to be the Terra system

Nine studios to essentially create the same game? Now we know where those 'tonnes of resources' are going.

All of Ubi's studios are basically involved in all of Ubi's games, which by now have morphed into mostly the same game just with some different graphics and a different storyline.

I don't blame them for it, it's hard to keep pumping out content at the pace they're doing without just unifying their games, and it's not like they're the only ones doing it. (Plenty of people have said that Dragon Age and Mass Effect are starting to look more and more similar as well, for example).

But they do seem to be taking it pretty far. You're just doing the exact same stuff in all their games now.

JOINING!!!!!

Or you could find a crew to actually play with

I've not seen a single BN crew member in GTA online in 5 months.

To be honest, that's kind of how it goes with every Blues guild/crew in every game.

I'll play online again once it hits the PC, I just got bored with the ever-increasing hax and bullshit I had to deal with when playing online, to the point where I finally only just played in a private session. At which point I was basically playing SP without the story, so what's the point?

So they are going to default 50,000 to 150,000 home routers in to becoming public hotspots. The question that immediately comes to mind is 1) what are they going to do to the issue of bandwidth caps and 2) whether the public traffic is counted towards the paying consumer? 3) It would be pretty shady to force share a paying user's connection and make them suffer through congestion and usage. 4) The other elephant in the room is how are they going to secure the consumers LAN against public traffic.

Comcast Wanker:

1) Nothing. Your bandwith caps will stay in place.
2) Yes, it is.
3) *crickets*
4) We're not. Nor will we safeguard you against people using your involuntary hotspot to download child pornography.

COMCAST, BABY!
