So isn't this basically GalCiv 3, just with different names?

Did you never play the StarCon games?

I think I played StarCon 2, but I have very little memory of it...

Star Control wasn't always a 4X strategy. In the beginning it was an adventure. Then they ruined it.

Ah, I see. I guess what I was more getting at is: Is what Stardock appears to be turning Star Control into not just GalCiv 3 with different names?

It would come on a single Blu-ray, I'd imagine. But my download only took a couple of hours. It hit 10mbytes/s multiple times. It did dip to below 300k for I don't know how long, but I restarted the downloader, and it perked right back up.

The image of their box cover says PC DVD ROM, so I doubt it'd be Blu-Ray. And my worry over the download is on my end, not on theirs.

60 Gig. Heh. Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and say that I'm never gonna download that...

I'd ponder getting the disc version, except it says DVD rom, which would mean it'd be on, what, 10 discs? So I think that's more a box where inside all they have is a download code...

I hope they bring back Warren Spector and Harvey Smith.

Screenshots look good. The only complaint I had about the original is that you could max out the skill tree (get all of the desirable talents) before completing the game, I hate when games do that.

Better that than have you max out your skills, customize your favourite weapons, gather all your favourite potions and gewgaws, only to walk into a cut scene and find yourself without anything, facing a boss fight. (*I'm looking at you Dying Light, you sniveling wretch*).

Fuck every dev who does this. And the ones who do it multiple times a game should be fucked sideways with a chainsaw-studded semi-trailer.

I don't begrudge them making paid expansions, but I honestly doubt that after playing the 200ish hours of Witcher 3, I'll be all that eager for even more content.

I've mentioned it before, but too little challenge or feedback for my liking. It is a good game and I think with the success of this one they can certainly expand it in the future. Not sure if I got lucky but I had no issues getting my first city to grow and grow with next to no challenge outside of caretaking traffic. I don't remember Simcity 4 being this sandbox like.

You may also just be really, really good at it.

I had a few issues with my first few cities, basically all traffic related, but once I figured out how to manage traffic, yeah, it's been pretty easy.

If I had one big gripe I'd say that it's that money comes way too easy. I'm already making ~4-5K a week by the time I reach 6000 people, and once you have plenty of money there is zero challenge left, really.

But I'm still very much enjoying learning how to do things properly. I've been trying to figure out how to optimize public transport, especially since 2 of my bus lines have ~ 17000 people waiting at the bus stops, whereas most of the others have basically zero. (it doesn't help that the game apparently randomly decides how many buses should drive on a line. My 2 full routes have 8 buses each, whereas another line has NINETEEN!...)

Best city builder in a long, long time. I hope they crack a million sales soon, and can get to work on some content expansions.

I like the term post-launch funsies. It is the exact opposite of what you usually get with an EA or Ubisoft game.

ôSadly this may come as an inconvenience to some of you and if so we truly do understand and can feel for how upsetting this may seem as there always is a special bond that occurs between a player and their MyCareer save but all good things must come to an end and rest assured your MyCareer or MyGM went out while on top.

That is the most incredible Marketing 101 statement ever. No punctuation, completely insulting and patronizing, and it pretends to apologize while basically saying "FUCK YOU; NOW BUY THE NEXT GAME!"

Anyone who is affected by this and still buys 2K15 deserves to have this happen to them every single year.

The reason nobody is talking about the future of TV is that the sort of people that would be talking about it realize that the future of TV is most likely to be dead.

As much as cable cos like to put their fingers in their ears and bleat really loudly that it's not true, cord cutting is becoming more and more prevalent.

That would be impressive if it was true. GTA V PC didn't become available for pre-purchase until mid January.

Ciphers start combat at 50% focus. Greater Focus adds +10 to your MAX focus.

Ahhh, so my focus is actually 40, and I start at 20 in battle. Okay, that makes sense. Thanks!

Can someone who's played a Cipher explain this to me?

I start with a Cipher, he's got 15 Focus from the get-go. I level up, select Greater Focus as my talent, which is supposed to give +10 focus, and now I have 20...?

I'm not great at math, but that doesn't really seem right.

Won't save em from the craptastic underdelivering design.

California is running out of water but the MIIC needs to waste 400 billion on some shitty planes for a war that'll never happen.

400 billion. Hahaha, oh how we wish it was only 400 billion. The F-35 project is rapidly nearing 1.5 trillion dollars. :\

We could have turned every single child in the US in the equivalent of Albert Einstein if we'd put that money into education. (Well, actually no, because the government would have still fucked it up, but you get my drift.)

Also, to green motorcycle superhero who saved those teens from that old fucking gimp: Do NOT come forth and identify yourself, because I can guarantee you'll get a ticket from the cops and the old fucker will sue you for assault.

The game is awesome but there is still a pretty bad bug concerning bloated save files causing load times to increase from 4 seconds to 40+ seconds which can ruin the game.

To avoid it, do not use the chanter ability that causes your party members to lay frost traps. If you are suffering from long load times, you need to run a custom script that cleans your save files of the redundant trap positions.

You can find the fix on reddit.

That is fixed with this patch, actually: Previously Wizard summoned items could persist after the spell's duration. This has been fixed and it will also retroactively fix the problem in saved games that have characters with this issue.

There is another patch currently downloading for me. ~ 580MB (the first one was a GB.)

600MB patch to fix a lockpicking bug...?
