That's... not good news. People on slow connections or with restrictive caps aren't going to be able to handle that on a consistent basis.

Sigh

Very strange. I'm playing it on a Panasonic Viera that runs at 60hz and the game behaves fine.

I'd give it a week to see what warts are found as the people get deeper into it.

found one already, not exactly game breaking but annoying enough for me to wait for purchase -

there is no vsync option in settings - and forcing it on in nvidia control panel somehow doesnt work - and there is constant, severe screen tearing since the game runs at such a high framerate compared to my shitty 60hz monitor

Aren't you on a 970, harlock? Weird, I have no tearing issues whatsoever...

I never liked Descent much (my mind probably just doesn't work in 3D) but I was glad to see an announcement for a KS'ed sequel. Then I see that it's MP only.

... huh?

Excellent reviews on Cities:Skylines (the IncGamers one is more detailed), and I heartily concur with both. It's a wonderful city builder.

I'm already starting over because I fucked up early parts, and I'm actually looking forward to doing so.

If you liked the old Sim City games, but hated EA's latest festering pile of shit, you will LOVE Cities:Skylines. For 30 bucks, you really can't miss, imo.

Thank you Verno. That means a lot to me. I will try to refrain from 'weather trolling' from this point forward. Thumbsup Besides running my business, I aspire to become a writer someday. I don't know if I'm skilled enough to write a story.

Only way to find out is to try it, dude. That's what I did.

Bradley wrote on Mar 11, 2015, 09:16:
This game is amazing. I played for about 8 hours yesterday without a single crash or major bug. There were a few minor rendering issues with how some building lots meshed with the terrain, but they were barely noticeable. This game is everything the new Sim City promised to be and more, by an order of magnitude. It was done by a small team of 7 (I think) employees, which makes it even more amazing to me. To make it even better, you get all that for only $30.

I've only played for a very short bit, but it seems excellent so far. Like Bradley said, it's basically what SimCity SHOULD have been. It also requires some decent amount of forethought into what should go where, as you can quickly run out of money initially, but there are some nice "upgrade" features that can help you make roads bigger (for example) when they need to be.

Only bug I've seen so far is that it crashes when I exit, but eh.

And there already are loads of mods. Disable film grain, exterminate chirpy (UGH!), make all areas purchaseable, etc.

Very impressed with it so far, especially given the price.

True, I mean, people always use their cellphones in completely appropriate areas anyway, so adding VR tech to it can't possibly go wrong.

It'll take roughly three days after release for some dipshit to get caught driving with his VR goggles on...

In any case, he must not be talking about the near future, because I have no idea how a cellphone would power something like a Rift. Yes, they're getting more powerful, but they're also already running up against cooling and battery limits. Having to haul a 12 lb Mophie pack around for your 5 lb VR goggles to work for an hour probably isn't going to be very accepted.

Almost nothing worth it on there, but I did pick up Defense Grid 2 on Steam... it's actually pretty good! I'd heard a lot of bad things about the game, but so far(through mission 16?) only thing I've noticed is one seemingly unoptimized level that ran pretty slowly with everything maxxed out on settings.

It's not bad, if anything it's actually a very good tower defense game, but it does have two flaws:

1) It's not as good as the first (and the story in this one is just garbage)
2) Its scoring system is still mostly just incomprehensible. I'll finish a level with higher resources left and fewer towers built and yet I'll wind up with a lower score...

Getting gold on every level is quite frankly dead easy, so trying to get better scores is really what drives me to replay a level, and if I can't figure out HOW to get a better score, I quickly lose interest.

That said, you can do excellent strategies on some of the maps, and they have offered a lot of interesting combo techniques now, so it's definitely worth playing.

I think I'm the only one getting this, so I'll be sure to post some comments (once it's done downloading, which may take awhile.)

Pretty excited for it, though. It looks like what Sim City was supposed to be.

Not releasing on Steam is pretty silly anyway. Sure, it's a 30% cut, and that may be more than what GOG or Origin or Uplay or GMG or whatever take, but Steam also has by far the most potential customers.

It's better to sell 50000 copies with a 30% cut taken out than it is to not sell 50000 copies.

The all caps let you know it's a serious title.

So was Ground Zeroes any good? I thought that was the really short sort of sub-game thing?
