I played for the first time today, and it's really a fun game.

ANd I'm quite sure I replaced Bucky at the bottom of the score board

I would be much more impressed if somebody would develop a voice chat client which could interact with all the other chat clients.
I may even tempted to pay a Euro or two for it.

I think the post count is completely irrelevant. What counts is the day when you registered.
Having said that, I want to point out that my humble self registered five days before Creston.
What do I win? How about a avatar approval?

Why not blame secular humanism for why Western European nations are so squeamish about violence? The sword cuts both ways, ya know
Blame? Isn't rather "congratulate" a more fitting word? After all, violence is rather harmful to a society, sex not so much.

I think for people like hellbender, religion is just an excuse to make themselves bigger and everyone else smaller.
In other words, idiots beyond any redemption (hehe). No point arguing with them.

re: release date
Well, the FAQ still has Q4 2009 as the release date but I don't think that information is correct anymore.

I tried the beta (and like other people, I don't think this can be called beta).
First it took me around 45 minutes to connect. Not a big problem, since it was just at the start of the open beta, so probably a lot of people tried to get in.
When I was in the game it was VERY laggy. Between 20 to 80 seconds before any action, other than moving around, did anything (according to the MO forum this is not game server lag but database server lag, which makes no difference for the player).
After 10 minutes in-games I was dead. Killed by another player in the starting location. I had no chance to react, as soon as I noticed the attack I was dead. Then the game crashed.
I think I give it another try in two or three months.

The best workaround (no surprise here) can be found at the various torrent sites. According to the comments there, it doesn't involves any of the above annoyances.

I'm almost speechless.
Except that I consider this a terrible idea, which will cost UBI much more money than they ever can hope to make with this scheme.
Are they really THAT stupid?

I don't think anybody hates Interplay.
I rather think that many people dislike its current CEO Hervé Caen; who they see as responsible for the downfall of Interplay.

Somebody who writes "How the frak..." in a article looses all journalistic credibility in my eyes, no matter what the subject of said article is.

On a serious note, it seems to me the world offers far more ugliness outside of Christianity than within it.
Sorry, but you are wrong. There is no difference. While religions (no matter which) offer nice excuses to be intolerant and bigot, in the absence of religion mankind is inventive enough to make up reasons to be generally a bunch of assholes.
At least that's my experience. And yes, some people call me a cynic.

24. Ads Nov 10, 2009, 18:57 Buckermann

I just had a ad for mygamesfile.com.
At first it looks like it offers free, legal downloads; for example Fallout 2.
http://mygamesfile.com/halflife2game/index.php
Than it wants to install some ad/spyware and redirects you to some public server with the HL2 Demo.

..as it was a Vista exclusive...
I don't remember the details, but it was very easy to get the game to run without a flaw under XP. IIRC it was either just a registry setting or a simple dll hack. Didn't made the game any better though...

But a player-driven MMO would be awesome!

re:Kids' movies that aren't for kids.

The way I understand the article, the author basically says that movies who are not all happy with rainbows and unicorns, are not good (and entertaining) for children. For example "Wally-E":
With this post-apocalyptic fable, loaded with sardonic asides about our consumer-excess society, followed by "Up" (which is something close to a tragic meditation on mortality),...
Which is exactly what makes it a good movie for kids. I don't understand the motion that kids must be protected from the realities of live; that actions have consequences and that humans are mortal.
Like in "Spirited Away":
...like the recognition that one's parents do indeed die eventually, and journeys through haunted amusement parks won't bring them back...

Yes, kids need to be protected until they have developed some emotional stability, but not in a way that will impede the growth of said emotional stability.

Disclaimer (which may leave the above lines without any meaning for some): I don't have kids on my own, but work with them sometimes.
