Missing Disk Space |

Ok, so this is in Windows Vista 64.
If I go to the driver properties, it says I have used 130gb of my hard-drive. But when I go to the root directory, right click on each folder and do properties and get the size on disk for all folders, it only adds up to 101 gb. There is also ~4 gb or so on the root directory for the swap file. So where is the missing ~25gb?! Anybody else have this problem?
Doing the same method on my laptop running Vista 32, there is ~18 gb "missing"!
Anybody have any clue?
*edit* It is probably the volume shadow copy stuff for backing up. It is just not showing the disk space it uses when going to the folders and right clicking to properties?

No love here for Left 4 Dead? Is anyone still playing that?
Dammit. Sold. Hadn't noticed that the platinum version is only $15, guess they hid that item in the package deal. MP is my main interest in this game, but it's a no brainer for $15 as is. What the hell are you smoking. Left 4 Dead is not $15. Where?! Show me!

Anybody know an easy way to analyze the data being sent via a flash extension?
I.E. I have something running a flash extension, I want to see what "files" it is accessing where on the internet. |

s I wrote below, if it is profitable to sell these games at these prices now, it would still be profitable to always sell them at these prices given the fixed costs of digital distribution. Lowering the prices will increase demand for the games, but that demand will fall off as soon as the prices are raised. Demand is irrelevant to my point. Just because something is profitable at a price point does not make it a wise business decision. It might make money, but that does not mean it makes enough money to further expand you business. If it just pays the bills (i.e. cost of delivery, employees salary, etc), it is not wise to continue to sell at that price point.
And for all you know, some of these are not profitable. Sometimes business do sell things at cost to get new customers.
Having a sell by no means = price gouging.....

Alpha Prime is $2.49. Well worth it at that price. I had some technical issues; but not a lot. It was a simple FPS with decent graphics and predictable story, but it $2.49 for ~8-12 hours of blowing stuff up, well worth it.
Deux Ex GOTY for $8.99. If you never played it, well worth it!
Valve really needs to discount their own stuff more! Everything is sill cheaper at retail then on steam for their stuff!

The movies were really bad though so I'm sure that scared a lot of people. The rules are:
good movie: bad game bad movie: good game. I am pretty sure the: bad movie : bad game Is a more important rule then those other two...

Crysis will likely be the last PC game to really make PCs scream for mercy. Everything else runs fine on a $100-$200 videocard because that's equivalent to what's in consoles. No. You need extra power to handle the sloppy and shittly done ports of the hign-end console games.
Do not forget, this is not the last generation of consoles, there is another generation coming soon. Those technologies used in those consoles are forged by the PC market.
Also, companies will take more advantage. While it might be the same engine, with higher-end PC's they can throw higher textures and more polygons at it, making it look better (at least some companies say the will). Plus, a lot of these console games are playing at a horribly slow frames per second. People who grew up on consoles might not know of anything better then 30 frames per second, but others know and can not live with it.

Just kidding. Merry Christmas to all! Enjoy your time! Play lots of video games! That is my plan!

This year is yet another that proved that point with Iron Man and especially Batman: Dark Knight. Iron Man was good. The Dark Knight was a horrible horrible movie. People lie, they are just saying Keith Ledgers performance was great because he is dead. It was not bad, but it was not great either; just average. But the whole plot of the movie was horrible. It would have been so easy to make the Joker a formidable foe without giving having to have him be able to predict with infinite detail the future, down to every last minute detail. Everything about the movie was unbelievable. I loved Batman Begins, and I can go into the willing suspension of disbelief with most of his equipment.... but I am sorry, the movie was shitty and horrible and ridiculously over the top.
And they needed a better make-up artists and wardrobe person. Maggie Gylenhall is fairly cute, but she was miserable to look at in that movie.

That is not torture though. It is a controlled experiment, they know it. It is also just pain. While pain sucks, they were not causing actual physical damage. Pain is temporary. Damage is not.
This by no means in any way shape or form is torture. |

It might not be called statistics when you take it, but in physics virtually everything is a probability distribution function, even if they do not explicitly state so, and if it does not appear to be so. It really is. Even what you call an average is a probability distribution function. Having a good solid base and understanding in statistics and probability really makes things much easier in physics. It really makes the math and concepts in physics much easier.

What if Steam went bankrupt? When that happens, it will be a matter of hours before torrent sources are full of the non-steam version of the executable, with all other DRM removed as well! But they have also stated that they will make sure the games are still playable in the event of that.
Yes it sucks to have to rely on that kind of stuff, but that is the world. |

I have a question. Is there a way to setup Steam so you don't need an internet connection to launch your games? That's my only complaint about it atm. When my cable goes down here I can't play most of my games because they are on Steam. When it comes up, just click "start in offline mode". I have never had an issue where it would not allow me to play the game then.

My mind torn asunder, last night in bed I found myself grappling with the Monty Hall problem until, hours later, with a dizzying flash of self realization, I came to understand the solution.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monty_hall_problem
Woohoo! Wha? Really? I thought you were a Physics major?
You really should take some statistics classes. All Physics except Newtons equations of motions are really just statistical problems. |
